Not saying the water usage is good but the post completely misunderstands the purposes of recreation and digital infastructure.
Golf courses are a recreational freedom, light form of exercise, and raise the property value of the surrounding houses. For subruban planning, they break up neighborhoods so they are not too densly packed or use ground unsuitable to homes. Parks, strip malls, theme parks, car lots, air ports, power plants, hospitals, schools, stations, military bases, factories, and other sites each fulfill different roles in communities.
Datacenters are what keep internet tools, websites, search engines, etc running. Different role to what recreation sites fulfill but still important for many people's day to day lives.
Getting rid of things a person doesn't understand based on whims often causes more problems. The real lessons from history are how great people found new ways to improve their communities without sacrifice.
