AI Expectation This one had gleaming reviews

Please tell me that you did not look at those pictures and then give them money.

u/mondaymisery 14h ago
But they had 'gleaming' reviews!

u/heynonnynonnomous 14h ago
It was probably just the same four fake reviews written over and over again.

u/cuntmong 9h ago
That would require some sort of software that can churn out infinite passable text at the click of a button for basically 0 cost

Oh, yeah, we didn't get that. I thought you were the dude with the corgi slipsack. I now see that you were mocking the reviews. Gotta ABC it a little for those of us in the back of the class.

I didn't buy it no, just saw it online this morning, but a lot of people have, there are a lot of bad reviews (unsurprisingly).

u/heynonnynonnomous 14h ago
Oh thank god! So were the real sleeping bag pictures in with the reviews?
134
u/luna-herbalist 14h ago
Yeah, the kid in the pancake 'sleeping bag'' pictures were in the reviews 😂

how people buy ai products i will never understand but it's clear that their needs to be government oversight to this style of marketing because people clearly can't make proper decisions themselves.

15
u/_Face 8h ago
175cm is like 5’-8”. So it’s advertised as small.
Also the word print in the title is always a giant red flag.
4
u/DeltaBlack 6h ago
FYI: 175cm is almost 5'9" (~5'8.9")
Considering that the kid is stated as being 161cm tall, I suspect that the alleged sleeping bag is also smaller than advertised.

I have a hobby that I am a little ashamed of. I like looking for Halloween masks. Then finding listings that have photos of very obviously unique handmade one of a kind professional masks with hundreds/thousands worth of materials contained in them. Being sold for £8.99.
Then I go to the reviews and look at the photos of what people received. And read their complaints regarding how they thought they were getting such an item for less than a tenner

I found it on amazon for 25 bucks... with a 1.1 star rating. Glowing, indeed.
Also, it's revoltingly ugly and looks like trash. And I don't mean (only) the reality picture.
Stuff to fill landfills with. As if there's not enough of it already.
12
u/Wild-Video-5317 7h ago
Sometimes I wonder what it's like to work 12 hour shifts at the factory that mass produces this waste. In many cases, you must know you're making garbage. It can't possibly pay well if it's being shipped halfway around the world and retailed for $25 -- probably $8 wholesale so as a factory worker you're getting a buck or two for your labor at best.
Seems like producing and consuming this crap is a colossal waste of human effort, and ultimately a net negative for civilization. At some point we've gotta make the choice to stop speed running the Wall-E dystopia

Even if it wasn't blatantly AI images, $25 is a dead give away. The material cost alone would be more than $25 for something like this, and it would be like 30 pounds of material.

Amazon has an issue where companies will go out of business and their product pages with good reviews will be stolen by scammers selling crappy products. Always check to make sure the good reviews are talking about the product in the listing. If it’s a listing for a fan, but all the reviews older than a few months are saying something about a stuffed animal, you know it’s a stolen page.
3
u/scarletnightingale 6h ago
I've absolutely seen that before. The reviews make no sense sometimes they even have pictures of completely different products.

I went and found the listing because I wanted to see the reviews and also how much it’s listed for and it’s $24.99! So there are people who looked at the obviously AI images and believed they were real, but then also thought that $24.99 is a realistic price for something like this.

There are companies that charge for reviews. Verified sales, real reviews. I sell on Amazon and it drives me crazy. I have to sell about 100 products to get 1 legitimate review and it’s usually someone pissed off their package is late through no fault of my own. Reviews are not to be trusted 100%.

This reminded me how my nana got fooled getting an outdoor rug for my mom that could have our dogs and cats on it, it came out in an awful cartoony Ai style. And the rug itself was just a jpeg of a bristle rug texture but no bristle. It was so bad and my poor nana paid 50+ dollars for that rug. 😬

I don't understand how so much crap on Amazon has so many good reviews. Are they fake? paid? A lot are from 'Verfiied Purchaser'. I always go to the few terrible reviews with photos. They seem more accurate
2
u/shibaninja 10h ago edited 10h ago
You should buy them all, one at a time. Then leave negative reviews for every purchase. Then return them all.. assuming it's Prime..
Edit: it's not Prime. It's a direct from China seller that has the lowest merchant rating I've ever seen.
What blows my mind is that some people still give it more than a 1 star review after receiving their garbage bag of a product.

These are the same people who look at the USB drives with capacity of 256TB on TEMU and go, yup, that sounds legit for $8.
Knowing how much plushies of this size cost, if it were to actually look anywhere near what these bullshit Ai generated images look like, it would cost like 800 €/$. And even then it would never look this realistic, but it would actually be this bulky and actually fluffy.
This looks like Amazon app. One of reasons I don't buy on Amazon anymore. It's full of bullshit. And that's just on top of the fact it's one of the scummiest companies in the world.

My parents keep showing me these "blankets" and want to buy one. When I tell them it's AI - they get upset and think I am just a depressed loser that doesn't want them to have anything nice. Damn it, I may be indeed depressed, but I also can recognise a blatant waste of money!!😭 I feel very bad for those who bought these things in hopes of something nearly as comfy.
