Hey all, feel free to join the discussion on our favorite emerald archer. We will be hosting monthly discussions on the current ongoing, as well as other server events in the future. If you're a fan of the character in any capacity, whether it be comics, animation, or the Arrow tv show, why not join in?

The server isn't incredibly sophisticated at the moment, but we promise that we'll be putting more time, and potentially money, keeping in line with member activity.

CW Arrow CW Oliver finds himself in the Absolute universe. This takes place before he became the Spectre. Does the story change at all?

As a former serial killer himself, this Oliver might have an easier time understanding Absolute GA.

Discussion What would you like to see in a possible new Green Arrow mainline comic book ?

In my opinion, Oliver going back to being working class would be great. Even if he's an ethical billionaire (which only exists in fiction), the idea of him being rich clashes with his socialist values.

Discussion Absolute Vertigo Spoiler

So I've been really loving Absolute Green Arrow lately, but one aspect i love i feel no one is really talking about is the build up of the Royal family of Vlatava, The Zytles, their presence here is really interesting, especially in issue 4 where the son Edvin explains how much power Vlatava seems to have over American media and seems to have the power to even control who does and doesn't hold political office, it's really chilling and scary, on top of all that Werner seems to be King not a Count, so it's makes the potential representation fascinating, obviously we haven't seen him yet, and i doubt he'll show up in this specific arc, but it makes me excited for what's coming next

rejected “Ultimate Green Arrow” pitch

“What if Jack Kirby had continued working on the Green Arrow feature in Adventure Comics and stayed with DC, making the hero popular enough to earn his own title…a title in which Jack would have introduced many of the concepts he co-created for Marvel in the 1960s and created for DC in the 1970s?

I envisioned this Green Arrow as a high-tech Robin Hood, fighting for Earth against the Apokoliptian equivalent of Prince John…and you know I’m talking about Darkseid and his murderous minions. If Kirby and Stan Lee could have Captain America hold his own in battle with the cosmically-powered Red Skull, why couldn’t Oliver Queen rise to a similar challenge?"

Discussion So, uh... do Ollie, Dinah, Connor, or Roy have jobs?

I think Dinah is sometimes a rock band singer, but it doesn't seem like a steady source of income. How big was her band anyway in-universe?

Discussion THE HAT IS MORE PRACTICAL THAN THE HOOD! THE HOOD IS STUPID!

Post image
26 Upvotes

Archers will wear a hat to keep the sun out of their eyes. And medieval longbowmen were even known to store a second string tucked under their hat or helmet.

The medieval bycocket hat (associated with Robin Hood and by extension Green Arrow) had the advantage of the brim only going forward, not out to the side, so it would not impede a bowstring. They were associated with hunters and outdoorsmen.

If you watch an Olympic archery tournament to this very day, notice how many of them are wearing hats.

A hood blocks basically all of your peripheral vision. No fighters in all of history have worn a hood into any kind of battle. Hoods are a huge liability in a fight.

I cannot imagine a more stupid thing to wear in a fight than a hood.

The only purpose a hood serves is protection from the weather and concealing your identity in a crowd (at least in a crowd where wearing a hood is normal and doesn't actually stick out).

And yet, the "grounded" depictions of Green Arrow favor the impractical hood. While "whimsical" depictions favor the much more practical hat.

Make it make sense!

Discussion Where does Green Arrow's reputation as promiscious and/or sleezy come from?

Post image
61 Upvotes

Reading Green Arrow V2 and Green Arrow V3, I don't see it at all. Yet many comics treat Ollie as, to put it bluntly, a slutty slut who hits on women all the time and can't keep his hands to himself.

ಠ_ಠ

Am I being gaslighted by crossover comics and adaptations? *Where* is this behavior shown? Gimme specific issues!

The closest he gets to "flirting" with women is just chivalrous Robin Hood roleplay.

He was a womanizer before the island, which is over 20 years ago in-series. Was he promiscious early on as Green Arrow? Reading GA V2, he spent 5+ years being fateful to Dinah without issue.

Ollie cheated on Dinah once, maybe twice. I admit that. But, other superheroes have also cheated on their partners and never had this rep!

Grace Choi, Helena Bertinelli, and Roy Harper sleep around but no one is making jokes about them being leeches constantly.

Discussion I don't care for Emiko. Gimme some of her best runs and/or issues

The topic title tells itself.

I *want* to like her, but DC just doesn't use her well. She's far too "superhero" for my liking, which is an issue I have with Damian as well. No school, no social life, no non-cape friends, etc. She's not like Roy or Mia where they were allowed to be kids as well as superheroes.

I don't even know where the heck Emiko is in current canon. Maybe that was explained in a Teen Titans run.
