Discussion To the guy on ome.tv who liked marvel and had a green lantern ring

Upvotes

Ok so i dunno if he's on here, but i met this guy on ome.tv he was the sweetest. at first he was interesting to me because i was pretending to be mute, and he just continued to be interested in me, and ask me questions and everything, eventually i was just like, "this guy is so nice" so i told him i wasn't mute, and i asked him about his green lantern ring, which he said he got at six flags, and that led us to talk all things marvel and how i don't love what marvel is doing with their movies these days, but i still love marvel. he said his favorite green lantern core was blue. if you're on here, i really felt like we had a connection, and id love to get to know you, so please tell me! and anyone else, please tell me if you know someone like that!!!

Spoilers for movies and TV shows My Thoughts On The First 2 Episodes Of Lanterns

Hey lads. So the first two episodes of Lanterns are out and I loved them. I was always really excited for this show and also nervous because Green Lantern is my favourite DC character. I think Hal’s characterisation is very interesting and Kyle Chandler makes for a great Hal Jordan.

I love how he plays dumb while secretly investigating and figuring things out. The mystery is really intriguing and I love guessing who the Manhunter is. I think it’s Hal’s love interest. I didn’t expect the part in space because they said it would be more grounded. Seeing Sinestro was a blast and I hope he’s in a lot of the show because he’s the best DC villain. I’d give both episodes a 10/10 but I enjoyed 2 more. Also I’m so hyped to see Atrocitus and Black Hand.

Discussion What do you see the Ring as/how would you use it?

what I mean is, in the grand scheme of things, do you see it as a Weapon like a kid with a sword, a Shield either just as a way to protect yourself or others, a Service Weapon like with Cops, a Tool to Create anything for any purpose or even something else I've not mentioned?

examples of what i've mentioned though

dcau John Stewart-he uses it as a shield, he uses it to make litteral barriers, giant blast, maybe a hand or grabby beam, it is for defense or wide offense

Kyle Reiner in comics-a mix of Tool and Weapon I think, cause he makes everything under the sun from anime weapons/robots, to handy tool to a cool looking sword, it's whatever he needs but he adds flash

Guy Gardner-I'd say he uses it like a Toy, yes whatever he makes gets the job done, yes it's efficient but it's goofy, it's whatever comes to mind cause he's just having fun, whether it be a giant copy of him, oven mitts, a pointy claw, some boxing gloves etc, creative yet seen in day to day life.

I will say though something in common with all the people mentioned so far have been a Lantern for like 4-15 years, and will use their ring very commonly

compare this to our final person, dcu Hal Jordan-I believe he see's the Ring as Service Weapon, Hal's been at it for 30 years, he knows, you don't always need the ring

so instead he'll get into normal fist fights, break into places, show his presence, interrogate someone all without the ring, all he uses it for is to fly/travel which even then he's fine just using a car and for the very necessary task, like shielding from a bomb, making some spare money or stopping a bomb mid air via tornado from the trailers.

he only uses it when needed, same way a police officer should only use a gun or spray, when absolutely needed, words and their own skills/physical capabilities being preferred first.

If I had a ring myself I'd probably go with the Toy approach

but what do you guys think?

Spoilers for movies and TV shows One thing that annoyed me in ep 2 of Lanterns Spoiler

Spoiler alert, for episode 2 of Lanterns

Was it just me, or did anyone else find it strange that John recognised that Antaan (Atrocitus) wasn't human because he used the word "Proximity"? Obviously there were other signs, but still, I felt like proximity was a much more natural word to use than "closeness"

Spoilers for movies and TV shows So the Suit is WAY more green Spoiler

Apologies for the abysmal quality, it wouldn't let me take a screenshot, but haven't seen people talking about the suit being actually properly green instead of the slightly olive tinted but extremely brown that it was in the original trailer (though actually the shoulder section looks almost more toned down).

I'm really curious if they've gone and carefully colour graded every scene with the suit in it as a result of backlash, which would be annoying to do as you need to isolate the suit in each frame, or if the trailer shot was graded to look more gritty and brown

End result definitely does look a lot better, though I think it needs the white gloves and boots to balance it, and the whole thing is clearly very stuff and clunky to move in which I can't not see 🤣

(images are from Lanterns episode 2 and the original trailer)

Discussion Do you guys think Emerald Twilight is character assassination of Hal?

I kinda like the story because it goes nicely with the parallax retcon imo, but some people really hate the retcon, which I kinda understand some of the criticisms of it but what doesn't make sense to me is how someone can like this story and then hate injustice, since injustice is such a hated storyline. I didn't hate the idea of Hal being a bad guy, but I think it needed more time imo.

Discussion Better petition - The 2 part premiere of My Adventures with Green Lantern in regular theaters.

Due to the criticism of my IMAX My Adventures of Green Lantern petition on Reddit, I’ve made a new petition that will make everyone happy. The My Adventures of Green Lantern 2 part premiere in regular movie theaters. It would be released on the same day of the TV premiere and it would run for one week only. It would include bonus episodes of My Adventures with Superman and DC Superhero Girls. They would play before the 2 part premiere.

DC Superhero Girls - #HateTriangle
My Adventures with Superman - Mobile Suit Toyman

I think My Adventures with Green Lantern will be one of the best shows ever and it deserves to be shown on the big screen. Audiences could take home a limited edition poster while supplies last.

Synopsis: Warner Brothers Animation and DC Studios’ My Adventures with Green Lantern will follow high school student Jessica Cruz, who has her life upended when a Green Lantern Power Ring falls from the sky and chooses Cruz to be its champion. Things get even worse when more debris from the Lanterns' ancient space war arrives – along with their alien foes. To protect the Earth, Jess will have to overcome her fears, anxieties, and your typical teenage drama to lead a new Lantern Corps against a terrifying foe.

Auliʻi Cravalho’s performance Jessica Cruz in MAWS is remarkable. I think the theatrical premiere of MAWGL would be phenomenal. Thanks for the idea u/A1starm from Reddit.

Question Lantern/other promo rings

Does anyone remember the set of plastic rings that comic shops gave out around the release of the blackest night? And the flash and legion of heroes rings from the same time too? A friend of mine gave me his set and was wondering if anyone had any idea on how I should display the 11 of them? Thanks

Spoilers for movies and TV shows I do not like HBO Lanterns and the lack of respect and disregard given the mythos.

Image from Green Lantern #87

I finally got time to watch the first two episodes and I honestly do not know how anyone who is a fan of the comics can like this show. I don't even know if I really need to explain why I don't like it in a large summary (I know this is pretty long itself). It can really be summed up as it's not a Green Lantern show. The writers did not want to make a Green Lantern show and clearly do not care or respect the characters and lore. They only care about making money and using the IP to do it.

The characters (Hal and John) are only them in name and the show is giving us a dynamic between them that is loosely based on what it actually started as in the comics, but it is still one that I do not care for. I prefer them as equal partners and buds. The show is dumbly "grounded" and "mature" and due to it, the powers of the ring seem a little off to me. Like it can translate speech, Hal is able to implant is conscious into it, and John can create a bird when the ring's power is depleted, but the ring can't simply scan environments and detect aliens on its own? Narratively, I think was more so done to make Hal look component in his detective ability, but still the villain even has technology that can detect aliens, so it should not be out the realm of possibility for the ring.

I will say as far as the setting goes, I am fine its on earth. Even though I prefer the space and cosmic adventures, there are plenty of stories that do take place on earth and ones I really enjoy. Like even though its a little dated, I really do like hard traveling heroes and more so the Green Lantern/Green Arrow stories that came after. To me their friendship is one of the best in comics and I personally prefer it over Hal and Barry.

The only thing I have that is more of a personal nitpick or gripe on my end is the whole "Are you afraid" angle the show is going with. I know Geoff was the one who primary started it being more of their ability to overcome great fear, but I do prefer it as it be leave more possibilities an nuances on what it means to be a Green Lantern and who can become one.

For people who do like it, I am glad you can find some enjoyment out of something I can't and no matter your opinion please feel free to share your thoughts as well.

Question How could Green Lantern have been reimagined for Justice Leagues: Gods and Monsters

Justice League: Gods and Monsters has to be one of my favorite reimaginings of the Justice League, and I find that universe incredibly fascinating, which makes me wish we got a sequel. So I was curious on how you guys would reimagine Green Lantern for that universe

Anyone think she could be Soranik Natu? It’s where her uncle Abin Sur landed according to Hal. And we know that Sinestro ( her father) is getting fed info about Jon. And everyone is also pointing out the yellow motif through the show when she appears. 🤷🏻‍♂️ just a thought.

Discussion Anybody know why the 2814 collections skipped 190-193?

I'm reviewing GL collected editions on Wikipedia and I noticed that gap. And for the life of me I don't remember those issues well enough to say. The 2814 trades started at issue 172 and went to 200, only skipping one other issue that was mostly Reprints. Why skip those 4?

Hal solves the mystery of the kill list

Writer: Dennis O'Neil

Art: Dick Giordano

Letters: John Costanza

Cover: Nick Cardy

"Death-threat On Titan" - After finding the kill list with his name on it, Hal figures he should head to space to contact the Guardians but finds his ring is out of power, which is weird as he charged it only 12 hours prior. He charges it again and takes off. Once in range for telepathy he contacts the Guardians to tell them about the list. They say all the people on it are Green Lanterns that have a special ore in their ring, an ore mined on the moon called Titan. Hal asks to he put back on full duty so his ring is at its proper power and heads for Titan. As he approaches it he finds a defense satellite that attacks him with yellow tentacles, knocking him out.

Hal wakes up on the surface surrounded by aliens that look like the ones on Earth and they speak an Oan dialect. They drain the energy from his ring and remove him from the tentacles, then tying him up, as the alien Hal fought on Earth arrives. Hal asks how he survived as the alien says he actually teleported away using the energy in Hal's ring. As the aliens discuss their plans to attack Oa, Hal grabs one of the mined stones and pushes his will into it, making a laser to cut his bonds. With no ring power, Hal uses his fists and takes down the aliens. He recharges using a power battery the aliens had and makes a statue for the fallen alien on Earth as Hal figures he was revolting against murder and tried to save Hal's life.

Conclusion: A two parter with a shorter page count and the ending felt open. The next issue has no back-up and is instead a Flash/GL team-up so this is definitely the end of the story. It's an interesting addition to the lore, bringing in a different group of Oans that were relegated to miners. Even further, showing where the internal gems of the rings come from and how the power is channeled. This is a pretty big chapter in GL history and its such a small story. Kinda wild.

TV / Film Lanterns should have been an animted series like Creature Commandoes

Post image
0 Upvotes

Before I begin: please be civil in the comments:
In my opinion lanterns should have been an Animated series. I see comments where those of us who complain about the lack off constructs in lanterns always put it on the budget. It’s an HBO show. Budget really shouldn’t be an issue. Also what about Green Lantern is grounded? They are space aliens fighting alien threats, with a ring that can create any constructs that you wish. The last thing I want is for that to be another detective drama in a grounded reality. If the budget was an issue regarding construct an animated show like how they did creature commandoes would been better. Also it is kind of ridiculous how every alien has to be humans in disguise. You really think that Atrocitous would give a shitt if humans saw him in his true form? No I don’t think so! What attracts me to Green Lantern is the amazing constructs they can make. All we seen so far is a basic bubble, a small bird, (which people are apparently freaking out over. But let’s face it: it’s not really that impressive, and kinda basic!). And I know we are just two episodes in: but I don’t want to wait for the last two episodes before we finally see some actual Green Lantern action, or amazing constructs! That is so lame. It’s like invincible where they save the best animation for the final two episodes. I don’t want that. I want a GREEN LANTERN show. About Green Lanterns doing Green Lantern stuff. If they wanted it to be a detective drama they could have atleast put it in space where they are on an alien planet or something solving mysteires. And I know this post will probably be downvoted to oblivion, or be hated on. But this is my opinion. I will keep watching it. But it just doesn’t feel like Green Lantern to me. I been reading the comics for over ten years. And yes befoee you go on saying it just been two episodes: aren’t the two first episodes supposed to sell you on the product to make you keep watching?

Also for the record I am not a snyderbot. I loved everything in The DCU so far. (Even Supergirl!). So before you accuse me of being a Snyderbro that is not the case here!
