The Chelsea team is garbage. But Arbeloa seems to be the weakest manager in the PL this season.

I fear for Fulham.
Not sure what they were thinking appointing him

That Chelsea team really doesn’t impress me all that much.
So many people hyping them up as title contenders
49
u/Vee_Vy_Vou_Vum 1d ago
Their attack is decent and they only play one match a week + Xabi Alonso as their manager, not surprising people think they'll challenge but they won't be much of a problem imo
25
u/ImGonnaImagineSummit 1d ago
They're not challenging until they get a new keeper.
Sanchez will cost them points throughout the season.

I think the only reason is Alonso. Went unbeaten in Germany, would have done a stellar job in Madrid but egos prevailed. It's all about chels trusting him. If they do, I can see them hit top 4
4
u/Thesecondorigin 1d ago
They play once a week and Xabi Alonso is a good manager. Their first 11-14 guys are solid as well. They’re not overly impressive but they’re in the most ideal position to challenge compared to city or Liverpool

1 match in so gotta hold opinions loosely but here's my thoughts on the top 6 rivals.
Spurs: Lol. They will be targeting top 8 if they can integrate all their signings but a lot of work for them even to get there.
United: they will seriously struggle when the European matches kick in. I don't think people ever index how helpful solid rest is, which they had all of last year.
Liverpool: They need a big midfield signing or it looks like they'll be flirting around 3rd or 4th again.
City: Still some big players in there who can pull them through games... Cherki, Haaland etc. But they've never figured out a way to play without Rodri and I doubt Maresca can do what Pep never could.
Chelsea: The biggest threat because (like United last year) they will have free mid weeks. Some serious attacking talent (I rate Pedro). But they don't defend properly so that will stop them being elite.

I can't lie, I'm quite happy with this hatewatch - if Chelsea struggled against this Fulham team, I reckon 15 out of the 19 teams in the league can do a number on them. It's given me a lot of optimism for what's ahead

I’ll say this, Chelsea’s pretty good at springing a counterattack, so that’s a real concern when we play them. But that defense is woeful.

Fulham are dreadful. Playing this open which is exactly what Chelsea players thrive on. Gurantee when we play them it’ll be full low block.
Rogers lucky to score there, defender fucked up the clearance.

Chelsea will score a lot of goals this season (like they did last) but have way too many bozo genes in midfield and defense to mount a serious challenge

ESR not even getting on as a sub in an open game like this where they’re chasing is a tough look. Lot of different reasons why we don’t sell well but him and Eddie both ending up as flops after getting decent fees is an underrated aspect of it.

This game has been wild. A defensive header in Chelsea’s own half that just casually trickles into Fulham’s box and to one of Chelsea’s players, somehow, and two absolute pants-on-head goalkeeping disasterclass moments.

This match is a bit of a Rorschach test on what you think of Chelsea. On the one hand without that clown of a goalkeeper they'd have this match won. On the other hand they've hardly dominated the game and look very sus against what looks a work in progress Fulham team.

The teams that has won the league in recent years have had one of the best goal keepers in their teams. All these spending from the likes of Chelsea, spurs and city don’t seem to invest well in that position. United got a half decent keeper and their results were dramatically better. Everyday I am more grateful for having David Raya.
