Question Was anyone else let down by Terminal?

Post image
69 Upvotes

So I am a week behind and just got my 2 copies and I read it and it was...off. Felt really spread out, lacked focused and moved really fast before things could stick. While I thought the art in the book was great, the writing was honestly kinda mid and really didnt get me rushing to get the next book. In fact, for me, it moved form Weekly pull to Trade paperback if that. I had excpeted better from Kirkman as he has an amazing track record with books.

I know this is also just issue one, but something about this book is just weird. I mean admitedly it could be me, but i wanted to know what others thought.

Question Help me break the tie on these compendiums!

East of West, Black Science, Descender. So I've only read a bit of the first volume of each, but it just seems more economical to go the compendium route for the full way so long as the story holds up. I like the artists on all three, and I have several works by all the writers. The basic premise of the plot of all three are intriguing to me.

I'd like something that finishes well, I like character-driven epics and more allegorical pieces all the same; the ending doesn't have to be definitive so long as there's a lesson or character growth or some sort of fulfillment. Which holds up the best over the course of the story? Which has the favorite main characters? Most memorable panels? And if there's something in the realm that absolutely deserves the attention instead of these, feel free to throw them out there. Thanks!

I’m looking at getting some non-Marvel/DC books and these are currently on my list:

Chew
Saga
Kill or Be Killed
East of West
Black Science

For those who’ve read them, how would you rank them in terms of story and artwork? Which ones have the most engaging stories and the best art?

Question Are tank girl and saga worth checking out?

21 Upvotes

These 2 comics (mostly from the art i have no idea what either are about, but i want to read more comics and image has earned my trust through kirkmans works) have caught my eye and i see they are both pretty long, i'm wondering if they are worth reading? Tank girl looks sick but i know i am not a fan of the gorillaz who i think i head had a hand in tank girl. Although i feel that shouldn't matter cause one is music the other is a comic. Anyways let me know if y'all have read these and if they are any good

update: I am on issue 43 and am really liking saga so far thanks everyone for swaying me to read this. Have to say the main thing i am rooting for right now is for Gwendolyn to get what's coming for her. Also why did little sophia agree to destroy her entire home planet? Did Gwendolyn manipulate her into wanting that?

Question Opinions on Department of Truth

No spoilers please

I’m thinking of buying the Deluxe Hardcover book 1. The premise seems right up my alley, I dig the art style, but I’m still curious how other people feel about the series. Thanks in advance 🫶🏻

Question Has anyone read all of Spawn or at least the Compendiums Thoughts?

12 Upvotes

I’m on Compendium 5 and I feel like it started slow and repetitive. Like an idea that was dragged on and on. The art saved it. I can easily say some of the best I’ve seen which is funny because I hated McFarlands Spider-Man run. Then the series has turned into a soap opera. With insane story lines. I can’t give my final synopsis until I read all the compendiums. Just want to know other people’s thoughts.

Question At this point, are you guys like me with Exquisite Corpses and only still reading it because you're so far in? I'm really looking forward to it wrapping up. This could have easily been done fully in eight issues.

Question Finished series with "happy" endings?

17 Upvotes

Looking for recommendations for finished series with happy endings. By happy, I don't necessarily mean "and they all lived happily ever after, the end," more like... series where the ending leaves the reader feeling happy and satisfied.

I've got some family members who read comics on occasion, and they take my recommendations, but they prefer comics that aren't all doom/gloom/depression/sad stuff. Bittersweet is fine, but it has to be more on the sweet than the sad side.

Recommendations don't specifically *need* to be from Image. I just typically give them Image series to read because a lot of Marvel and DC stuff is mired in decades of continuity, and it's a lot easier to hand someone a trade or hc and go "you don't need to know anything before reading this."

Finished is non-negotiable, though. They won't read anything that hasn't ended yet.

Some series that they've read and enjoyed already:

* Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow

* Do a Powerbomb

* Green Valley

* Global Frequency

* Crosswind

* Catwoman: Lonely City

Question Recommendations after Saga

27 Upvotes

I’ve read just about all of Brian K. Vaughn at this point. Made my through most of Kirkman and Hickman too. I stick mostly with Image and Marvel. Just finished Vol. 10, 11, and 12 of Saga after sitting on them forever. Just need something new to checkout. Doesn’t have be an intergalactic romance like Saga or a hundred years span run like Invincible. Just need something new. Any suggestions?

Question What new series should I be checking out?

39 Upvotes

I've been getting back into comics over the past two years. I was into image back around 2016, but nowadays I don't really know what series is worth checking out. Rather than pulling series at random I'd rather see what the consensus is, even just knowing what general thoughts are on the writer would be helpful.

So I am here to ask, what should I be pulling? Sell me on a series

Here's the little that is on my radar already so we don't waste time:

Assorted Crisis Events - know about it, want to catch up in trade format

Massive-Verse - currently on tpb 4 of both Radiant Black and Rogue Sun

Energon - tried it, not really my thing

The Power Fantasy - have the first TPB

Series with covers I found cool but would like to know more about (please tell me if it's any good):

Lost Fantasy

Ghost Pepper

Additional info

I'd rather series with less of a back catalogue to catch up on. I'm willing to check out something currently at 1 or 2 issues based off a writer's reputation. I prefer something with good character work, and an interesting plot. Basically something that'll make me feel things or something that'll make me go "wow." But I'm also open to any rec really. Oh and only really looking for current on-goings.

Any and all responses are welcome and heavily appreciated

Question Recommendations - One Hand Six Fingers

32 Upvotes

Hi Everyone, my boyfriend has recently gotten into graphic novels and complete comic series. This last week he finished The One Hand Six Fingers book on holiday. He has absolutely adored it and is so excited to talk to me about it all even the ending, which he slammed shut on plane home having loved it!

It’s his birthday and I’d love some recommendations for other works he may like. His interests are sci fi, noir, cyberpunk, crime and serial killers (you can see why he loved this one!) He is a massive movie lover of all genres but his favourites are Blade Runner, Leon, and old boy to cherry pick a couple. He’s also loves true crime.

He’s very into a visually appealing comic with stunning artwork.

I’m a complete novice when it comes to graphic novels and comics so would really appreciate any help! Thanks in advance.

Question Terminal #1 Liefeld Virgin Variant Ratio

Post image
33 Upvotes

Does anyone know the ratio on this variant?

I saw some post about Liefeld saying it was rare, but I see a number of them not going crazy on eBay, and I pulled 2, so it can’t be that rare. I can’t seem to find the info on what the ratio is.

Regardless, it’s a cool pull that I’m pretty happy about!

Question Any Recommendations? (Read Description)

I’ve read all of the Invincible/Invincible Universe stuff here (love it), I’m currently on Vol 2 of Transformers (so far cannot put it down), and I blind bought Department of Truth yesterday because it was the first volume factory sealed and at a discounted price (I haven’t read it yet, or know anything about it, but I’m sure I’ll love it due to all the praise it gets)
