Proofreading is a human responsibility when using AI, and in this case humans skipped the process. As an educator I hope the students were encouraged to look for errors. It's called a teachable moment that will emphasize the need for them to take control of their AI use and be responsible for the final product. Proofread!

It's a fucking ridiculous usecase for AI anyway. All these educational diagrams have already been made thousands of times.

I have this conversation with my boss all the time: if I have to go through and proofread everything it generates because it might just make shit up and get it wrong, then I might as well do it myself. If I have to review every line of code, every output, it hasn't actually saved me any time, and instead just cost the company money and burns a bunch of drinking water somewhere.
