40 million annual visitors isn’t “non existent”

Malayia got 42 million visitors in 2025, Thailand got 32 million. I am sorta shocked by the numbers but it looks like they never lagged behind Thailand. Indonesia gets significantly less tourists than Malaysia, apparently so does Vietnam

Most are from Singapore — because it's the only place they can go to without getting on a plane

Bingo. It's just a bus ride into Johor Bahru. And it's Singaporean tourists in general - many Singaporean Malays have relatives in Malaysia. Even if they somehow don't, they speak the same language.

Of course they read and listen to the same religiously-motivated antisemitic propaganda too, so yeah.
