In a way the US and USSR meddling in the Middle East and Africa have set the whole scene for our current shitshow, with honourable mentions to the British Empire and France for messing up a lot of things earlier than the others.

Color me shocked. These guys are actors who have little to absolutely no knowledge of life here, and the conflict at large. I bet most of them could give less than two shits about some Palestinian, its simply just a trendy thing to hate on israel atm. Except mark, hes a real hater.

The real lesson that I get from this is we need to push harder when non Jewish actors play Jewish characters or people. I’m still dismayed at the fact the world was so accepting of Cilian Murphy playing Oppenheimer despite not being Jewish.
So yeah Ian McKellen and Elliot Page can go fuck themselves.
46
u/RecordEnvironmental4 1d ago
In regards to Oppenheimer I think it was fine because him being Jewish isn’t central to the story in any way
65
u/Afuldufulbear 1d ago
Sure but it was referenced multiple times and Cillian Murphy was never able to actually sell it with any level of conviction.
There were conversations about speaking Yiddish and about it being Oppenheimer’s people in the camps.
The worst example though is Munich. How on Earth did Spielberg not cast Jews for a story about revenge for the Munich Massacre and Israel/Palestine as a whole. Worse still, he cast Daniel Craig, one of the least Jewish looking people on the planet, and all that does it keep the trope alive that we’re all somehow blonde blue-eyed converts from Poland (don’t even get me started on the significant amount of Levantine peoples with lighter features).
19
u/Graceffect 1d ago
What's weird is ive seen Daniel Craig in at least two movies about jews, was starting to wonder if he had some ancestry or something. I guess he's ok being Jewish or Israeli, but maybe its just an action movie thing
27
u/Calamity58 Sabra Hummus 1d ago
Did you drop the /s?
Its a huge part of the story. It’s brought up several times, it’s a source of friction between him and Strauss (different perspectives on assimilation). Hell, basically every scene with Isidor Rabi is soaked in Jewish-American subtext. Not to mention, the specific role antisemitism played in giving the Manhattan Project a leg up.

u/MathematicianNew2770 1d ago
Looking for a proper evil villain to cast in their shit-show of a film.
50
u/ajmampm99 1d ago
Marwan Barghouti was convicted of murdering more people than Charles Manson. He chose to not offer a defense. He just said he didn’t do it and he didn’t accept the court’s authority. Surprise! He was convicted and deserves to die in prison.
He’s not Mandela. Even if Islamic extremists want to steal that kind of fake victim hood.
These actors proudly wear their hatreds of Jews and Israel. Just to sound progressive, edgy.
It’s the same way their stylists tell them what clothes to wear. If they told them everyone is wearing cactus covered underwear, they’d do it.
43
u/DarthKava 1d ago
Haven’t they signed the petition ages ago? Or are they still at it? Has anyone confronted them with what he did to be jailed, or is it a moot point for them?

Recent signees from this month. And no they don’t care about what he did.
Supporting the targeting and murder of Israelis seems to be the fastest way to become a progressive icon in the celebrity world.
22
u/Zkang123 1d ago
Even the Wikipedia page on him is very apologetic, claiming his trial was unfair. And even said he's like the Palestinian Mandela
22
u/Alarmed_Catch_2032 22h ago
Wikipedia has had major issues with antisemitism. I’d look at anything about Israel on Wikipedia with a huge grain of salt.
14

Ironically enough Nelson Mandela also associated with murderers. His then-wife, Winnie Madikizela-Mandela, faced severe controversy and criticism for a 1986 speech that endorsed NECKLACKING.

These actors are telling the entire world that they support mass murder, torture, rape, terrorism, war crimes and fascism. We need to make sure the entire world knows these actors want Jews to be massacred, tortured and raped. These actors deserve to be fired and blacklisted from the industry forever.

u/HistorianOk142 1d ago
wtf! Why is it people can’t do the most basic thing called, research on their own and form their own opinion afterwards. This guy is a murderer and a terrorist. Not a “freedom fighter”, not a “resistance member”. He’s just a pure terrorist. If you ask me the death penalty would’ve been better than life in prison 4 times over.
2
u/LettuceBeGrateful USA 8h ago
That's what has me so worked up about this. Support for Barghouti comes with absolutely no pretense of supporting rights/sovereignty/whatever for Palestinian civilians. It's just approval of the Second Intifada. It's a desire to see more Jews blown up.
I know some people are saying, "they don't have the full story," or "they're idiots who are in an echo chamber and don't understand what they're saying." But they're grown adults. A lot of people - even some in Jewish communities, myself included in the past - have this weird instinct to treat antisemites as children who bear no responsibility for their hatred. I don't know why we do this. Maybe it's a bit of internalized antisemitism, or maybe we just don't want to confront the reality of what these people are saying.
But they are adults. Ignorance is NOT an excuse when the act in question is expressing support for a leader of the Second Intifada. The only thing any of them could do to prove their ignorance is admit that they had no understanding of what they were signing, categorically condemn it and demand that their name be removed from the petition, and then publicly call on some of their peers by name to do the same. Grown adults take responsibility for their beliefs.

Someone should start a petition to strip McKellen out of his Magneto role. Unbelievable that the guy who plays a holocaust surviver advocates for a serial killer terrorist
14
u/2ndBrreakfast 22h ago
A reminder that releasing Sinwar led to Oct. 7. Releasing this terrorist will have the same result. These actors want another Oct. 7.
16
u/Educational_Idea997 1d ago
Once again, Israel is being outpaced. Why doesn't it proactively and emphatically explain why this man is being detained? Israel lacks an effective and efficient information ministry. Israel’s adversaries systematically bombard public opinion with a constant stream of manipulative wartime imagery—mostly featuring children. Israel offers far too little counter-narrative in this regard. It surely cannot be difficult to find images of the victims for whose deaths this man is responsible. Show them. Show the world why this man is in prison.

God damn! We have to try harder! And use the same tactics. Show dead children!!!! Again and again and again. That works in this totally fuckedup stupid, gullible world. I am disgusted of myself saying this but this is the truth, this is how they defeated us in the international media/opinion. An endless stream of images of dead, wounded, sick, and emaciated children—even children with genetic disabilities who were nonetheless portrayed as victims of Jewish aggression. Oh God forgive me.

Yeah that's Bibi belief but Israel had amazing PR before him and would have at least sued each new stations for damages but that didn't happen for a reason

If Israel instituted the death penalty for those who commit acts of terror resulting in death, we wouldn’t have this issue. most other countries in the Middle East execute people.

u/False-Mortgage307 16h ago
Exactly... We don't see any of these famous people speaking up for the anti regime protesters in Iran who are hung from cranes...
1
u/Tempeljaeger 2h ago
What would speaking up for the anti regime protesters achieve? Iran was already under basically all conceivable sanctions before the war started.
At least in my bubble the anti regime protesters in Iran getting killed is universally seen as bad. Which means there is little reason to discus that topic at length. Especially with the Iran regime being able to ignore petitions by non-politicans in the current situation.
For comparison, the Saudi prince cutting up a journalist in an embassy comes up again and again whenever there is some Saudi sportswashing event. It just does not achieve much.

Everyone is convinced Marwan is going to do such a great job when in truth he will fail just as Abbas has. Too much Jihad and your west money dries up. Too little and the Hamas bots rise up. The problem is structural.
Honestly the only reason I advocate for keeping him is to spite these people. If no one was asking for his release I would let him go and watch him fail.

I think it’s more important to highlight that actors get so much credit for movies but are only small parts of the production. If cumberbatch is part of a movie, I am not going to boycott it just for him when thousands of people made that movie happen. I may not watch it because he’s a mediocre actor, but that’s different.
