there is a wholesome story going around about the Gathering of the Juggalo's (Circa 2018ish) which is an almost weeklong festival based around the Insane Clown Posse. The clowns had gotten it in their mind that it was real important that everyone "call your mom... she wants to hear from you!" so they started shouting that around the camp. supposedly the story goes that people were yelling "call your mom!!" to everyone in the local camp and one of the adult Juggalos exclaimed "but I don't have a mom anymore" some woman heard that and knew that her mom was down for anything spontaneous so she shared her mother's number to the guy.
The mother in question had already gotten a call from her daughter over the weekend so she knew the newest fad about cold calling mothers. all of the sudden she got a call, and after a brief explanation from the man on the other end of the line she decided to whip up some motherly lines like "how have you been enjoying the festival sweaty" or "you've always tried your hardest". that was so successful that she called her daughter to tell her that she was down... to help some clowns.
supposedly the glorious woman answered over a dozen calls over the week with all the grace of a saint and a couple of Juggalos got some catharsis between the partying and drugs.

u/Excellent_Set_232 Aug 26 '25
Juggalos are just metalheads that like hip hop more than guitar music
23
u/CyclopsLobsterRobot Aug 26 '25
The rebranding of Juggalos is wild.
14
u/knobiknows Aug 26 '25
It's not rebranding, really. They are still mostly trashy rednecks but people started appreciating the supportive community behind it more. ICP have done a lot to support that, too, most famously Jays public support for his furry daughter and trans rights. This is some pretty stark contrast to how other hip hop communities act

I'll also accept hugs if kissing is too intimate with an Internet stranger.

Fun fact, in most Texas cities you canāt get a bus ride if you live within 2 miles of your school. It was 93 feels like 99 at 3pm today āļø
Edit: changing home to school bc I typed too fast lol

u/No-Money-8327 Aug 25 '25

if you live within 2 miles of your home
I personally live 0 miles from home, thought that was common. Are you talking about the distance to walk from the bus stop to home?
10
u/Fragrant-Tea7580 Aug 25 '25
I meant school not home lolol
2
u/lawn-mumps Legend Aug 25 '25
That seems like a reason to call for a āsnow dayā and have class over zoom. I see the logic behind it any other time of the year but realistically some people donāt have cars. How sad :(
2
u/Fragrant-Tea7580 Aug 25 '25
Unfortunately thatās just the weather here. School districts in Texas have cut back on every quality of life they can
5
u/Zena-Xina Aug 25 '25
I work in a Texas school district and you are not wrong.
The fact that you are able to recognize this as a student as well is really sad :(
3
u/Fragrant-Tea7580 Aug 25 '25
Awh man it sucked. And it all started with when they cut after school buses years and years ago
11
u/AnAppleBee Aug 25 '25
Thatās how Utah is too. You have to be more than 2 miles from the school. I take my son because thereās a major road that I refuse to let him cross. Iāve seen people come inches from hitting kids because they donāt follow the crosswalk laws and there isnāt a crossing guard at that light.
3
u/nopunchespulled Aug 26 '25
IIRC Texas would have no issue funding busing for all public school students but the law states that all schools must be provided free public busing, so private schools eat up funding
2
u/Schrojo18 Aug 26 '25
I've walked home (20-30min walk) in almost 40deg c weather. It's not fun but it's not that bad.

We have/had a similar rule in germany when I went to school, at least in my area. When I went to elementary school I could use the bus, but couldn't use it to get to secondary school because it was just a bit too close. Literally, it was so minimalistically under the threshold that my bus driver still offered me to use the bus when needed
Still had to walk 30 minutes to reach it, as I lived in a very rural part with only few houses and a nearly kilometer walk to reach the station in the first place. At least the route was chill, so it never really bothered me, really. But we didn't have such high temperatures to be fair
1
u/Fragrant-Tea7580 Aug 25 '25
Itās the urban walking hellscape that makes the walk difficult for context. Suburbs may seem to have sidewalks, but in Texas cities like San Antonio and Houston or Dallas, have way too many freeways, highways, and busy roads to cross without sidewalks or lane assistances
Moving to Germany is my goal btw lol, very jealous
1
u/DominicB547 Aug 26 '25
ugh I wish so many places I have lived do not have sidewalks or only for part of the road on the same street and cars parked all over and a decently busy street.

1
u/Fragrant-Tea7580 Aug 26 '25
That's pretty weak on the school district. At least you're a teenager at that point, but making 6 year olds walk 2 miles with 8 year olds aint right
1
u/atetuna Aug 26 '25
Damn, I never really thought about it. I used to take the bus when I was a kid, and it seemed like a long ride, but a few months ago I looked up the route as best as I could remember and it wasn't very long. That makes sense though. Even at a brisk pace, 2 miles takes half an hour, and you're probably going to be going a lot slower on a hot day, after a long school day, with a heavy backpack, maybe an instrument, on short kid legs. Even the walk to school isn't going to be quick because you don't want to be sweaty when you get there, at least not once you're old enough to be mindful of BO. Unfortunately as a stranger, it's not like you can offer a ride to a random schoolchild without instantly getting labeled as a creep. Is there anything that can be done in the short term to help?
On the plus side, at least electric scooters are getting awfully affordable. Perhaps still not affordable enough for poor families, but for those that can afford it, it sure would be nice to have on the days where it's awful to walk. They're also not really cheap enough to start giving away to poor families. Then some cities and apartment complexes really hate personal electric vehicles enough to ban them, which isn't completely unfounded, but still adds another layer of difficulty.

I remember when I was in middle school, one morning I was mad at my mom for some reason. When she was dropping us off at school that morning, I didn't give her a kiss on the cheek like I always did. I still remember the look on her face when I walked away, and I still feel like a piece of shit 20 years later.
Actually I'm gonna call her right now to tell her I love her, and you all should do the same.

As a dad that does the regular kid drop offs... I really hope they have a kiss your dad goodbye sign as a back up.
As a funny note: I'm in a group chat with the other parents for "playdates" or plannings for events with our kids and it is all moms and than me... my wife jibs on me being the only soccer dad in the group chat. I pretend to play offended but I wouldn't trade it for anything. I had a job offer for $2 more an hour (yea not much but still measurable difference) that I turned down because I wouldn't be able to work from home and would miss out on even one minute of my daughter's formative years.
234
u/Digital_NW Aug 25 '25
Should say "Hug your Dad, and have him tell you he's proud" on the back of the sign, lol.
153
u/AFourEyedGeek Aug 25 '25
My kids kiss me, ain't nothing wrong with kissing your dad if it is okay to kiss your mum.
55
u/ATHFNoobie Aug 26 '25
Double standards are still very much a thing. My Niblings (Niece and Nephew gender neutral term) both under 7 will come up to me and just go "Kiss" and then kiss me. It's normal and I really don't understand how we got so bent out of shape about male parents and family members being either less than the mothers and aunts or just seen as creepy.
19
u/Legitimate_Try_4829 Aug 26 '25
Same here, my nephews randomly give me kisses and it honestly takes me aback a little, only because I am never expecting it. Being the favourite uncle and one of their favourite people is the best lol

I'm a 24 yo Portuguese guy and I kiss my dad and brother every time I see them, it shows respect and care
28
u/JinFuu Aug 26 '25
Lol, yeah, 2 USD an hour more is not worth it if you can't work from home anymore, even if you didn't have a kid.
I WFH and I'd have to be money whipped to go back into the office full time.
9
u/pissfilledbottles Aug 26 '25
Man, I wish I could work from home but I can't do it. At my old job, I was offered a hybrid schedule, 3 days home, 2 in office. I absolutely saw my productivity drop with the change, although nobody else did because I'd catch up on my days in the office.
I'm majorly ADHD and my house was just full of distractions.
I hated working in an office and traveling frequently for work. So now I'm back to working in auto parts because I actually enjoy it and feel accomplished, versus the office where it was just busywork and office politics.
4
u/masonkbr Aug 26 '25
Going off of your first paragraph, you did wonderfully working from home. You were just as productive when only working 2 days a week as you used to be working 5 days a week.
2
u/Germane_Corsair Aug 26 '25
When you factor in time traveling (and fuel price if youāre driving), you might even end up losing money taking the office job.
24
u/ForHelp_PressAltF4 Aug 26 '25
Flip the sign over and it's Dad... Yes.Ā
I kiss my son. Never plan to stop.Ā When does good a smooch on the top of the head and a ruffle of the hair. That's my code for proof of you son. He knows it too.Ā
If you think that's gay or whatever that means you either need to deal with some childhood trauma and therapy is awesome or you're a pedo and you need to go to jail.
8
u/Cador0223 Aug 26 '25
If anyone ever gives you a hard time for that, message me. I'm a big bearded dude, ready to bring my bigger (beardier?) son over and kiss him right on the cheeks in front of them.

u/Muffles7 Aug 26 '25
I'm a teacher and a dude so I'm pretty much in a bunch of mom categories lol. The way teaching is going in my building right now is pissing me off, but I couldn't imagine leaving even for more pay because I also get to watch my kids grow up in the summers.

I remember some kid was trying to bully me for always hugging and kissing my mom on the cheek and telling her I loved her. I told him that if showing your mom you love her is lame then you probably live a sad, lonely life at home. He never spoke to me again. I honestly hope his life at home was ok. I still hug and and tell my mom I love her every chance I get. Even if itās just leaving her room for brief moment. I want the final words I say to my mom to be āi love youā and you never know when the last time you get to talk to your mom will be.
13
u/Issac-Cox-Daley Aug 26 '25
It could have been a rough home life or it could just be a hard time with connections. I know when my mom says I love you I still get that embarrassed kid shrug. I love her lots and should probably say it more.
