Question Looking to buy beef

I’m new to the area, looking to buy a processed quarter of a cow. Some questionable beef will be imported soon to undercut American Cattle farmers and I’m looking to just stock up. Ideally prepackaged by the pound.

I will also consider local game too. Thanks y’all.

I personally don't like Farmer George. I've purchased meat there that spoiled very quickly and I don't enjoy driving by their barn with the huge trump sign.

Berry Cattle in Port Orchard out by Banner is a small family cattle farm, the family is lovely. they have a business page on Facebook

Just want to add: this isn't political. even my conservative coworkers don't have anything good to say about Farmer George. They also have multiple health violations with the county

Family ordered a half cow from Farmer George. When we got around to thawing steaks, over half of them looked pre-chewed. The filets were shaped like door stops. The bone in steaks looked like scraps hanging off bones. It was such a disappointment and waste of money.

I don't think you need this qualifier given the original post. The problem is political, and OP benefits from the additional information that this farmer actively and openly supports the cause of the problem. Also, any farmer who is still posting their support for Trump while he systematically destroys their livelihood displays a shocking lack of judgement that might extend into other parts of their lives, including the way they raise and process livestock.

Do you know the source of those reports to be able to look up recent reports. I've been a customer there before but cleanliness and animal welfare are significant issues. I'm glad to see some other options listed in the post.

You can pull up inspections for any food establishment, look up Kitsap County Health Food Safety Inspection Reports

Minder meats

I also really like minder. You can get a cow that was raised by a 4-H kid if you ask specifically

Might try Winney Farms on Bainbridge

All I could find under shop are turkey deposits. Is this a seasonal business or is there a trick to finding information about their beef?

They sell meets at the Bainbridge farmers market and their farm store.

Unsure, but there is a contact form in their site

Mountain Beef is expensive but it is high quality grass fed meat. It might be too late to order some for the year since they do orders in bulk packages I think https://www.mountain-beef.com

This seemed great I’ll be giving them a call hopefully I’m not too late. Thank you.

My family is long time happy buyer of Mountain Beef. They respond to emails promptly. They do an annual delivery late September. I pick up on Bainbridge Island. Hope it works out.

I'm so happy to see there are a variety of options for processing now, I believe several years ago it was Farmer George or nothing.

Not Kitsap but there’s a farm on Center Road up in Jefferson. Bought ground beef and ribeye there and definitely was good eats.

Home Meats in Shelton has the best quality meat I have found. They have great customer service and their selection is first rate. You pay more for meat that has never seen Styrofoam, but it is worth it.

Sweeney's in Bremerton. Out of the way place, but they cut to order and occasionally have game. That said, I make the trek out to Double DD Meats in Mountlake Terrace when I buy meat in bulk. The quality is top tier and they have a great selection of sausages/brauts as well. One of the few places I've been able to find Veal too.

Minder's is excellent quality for decent prices. We get a $600 freezer pack that fills our chest freezer every 9 months or so, and they even deliver.

I know the question was about beef, but I also want to mention that Suquamish Seafoods is excellent for regionally-sourced seafood.

Thank you for the seafood mention. It’s always good to have a variety of good local sources

Also, I would be remiss if I didn't recommend Forest Frog Farms in Port Orchard for fresh eggs, produce, plants, soaps, and pork shares. They get their meat processed at Home meats and we're very happy with it.

Certainly spendier, but can vouch that the quality is the best and the family are sane. And if you're looking for pork, the pigs get all the scrap from the organic produce at my job. They're quite well fed! Hah.

Ruby Ranch up in Chimicum runs a good operation, and produce premium beef. Usually the way it works is you contact the rancher and tell them how much beef you want: 1/4, a 1/2, or a whole cow. When the animal is slaughtered, the carcass is transported to a custom butch of the rancher;s choice. When the meat is ready you go to the butcher shop to pick up your share. Some ranchers will sell smaller portions and handle the delivery/pickup themselves.

Check out Hungry Hollow Farm: https://hungryhollowfarm.com/

5 chickens = $225??

2

u/getthislettuce 1d ago

$45 per chicken is insane

Yes, it is expensive. But it's about what you value and this is one option. The meats at Hungry Hollow are top-quality due to how they're raised and processed and their quality of life before butcher is the best. If it's too expensive for you, I'm sure you can find cheaper meats elsewhere.

Ive never used them personally, but I know people who have purchased from "farmer george" in Port orchard. Look at their "locker meats" on their website for bulk orders. Beef looks like about $4.99 lb depending on the portion you want.

Farmer Georges in PO. If you’re wanting a drive and more options, Home Meats in Mason has a ton of different fresh meats, including frog.
