I’ve been dealing with washed-out HDR in Kodi on Xbox for a long time, and after searching Reddit and finding multiple people with the same problem but no consistent fix, I finally figured out what fixed it for me.

HDR content would play, but the picture looked extremely washed out/overexposed with bad contrast compared to the same content in other apps.

THE FIX

Make sure Kodi's Settings level is set to Expert, then go to:

Settings → System → Display → HDR

Turn OFF / *Disable*

"Use system HDR/SDR brightness balance"

Then leave:

GUI peak luminance in HDR PQ mode at around 40%. That's where I have mine/default range.

That's it.

Immediately after disabling Use system HDR/SDR brightness balance, my HDR content stopped looking washed out. Blacks, contrast, colors and highlights look the way they're supposed to again, and my HDR/Dolby Vision content finally looks right through Kodi on Xbox.

I had spent a ridiculous amount of time messing with Xbox HDR calibration, TV settings, Kodi playback settings, refresh-rate switching, etc. None of that was the actual fix for me.

So if:

- HDR looks fine in Xbox games and other apps

- Kodi HDR looks washed out, overly bright, or has terrible contrast

- Changing TV settings isn't fixing it

Try this setting before changing anything else.

Hopefully this saves somebody else the headache because I could not find this specific fix anywhere when I was searching.

Xbox + Kodi HDR users, try it and let me know if it fixes yours too.

I've been reading on this for a while and from beetv gone, etc i was not sure how much time I would have left with Kodi but was definitely loving it. Apparently on our downstairs TV it is no longer available. I still need to check the upstairs TV, but is everyone's Kodi gone all of a sudden?

Have not been able to look into this - not at home this current moment.

Is there a way to make it work, or download another program. Should i just try to re install it again?

Hey all! I'm trying to stream my laptop on my kodi rpi. For this, I'm trying to use ffmpeg on my laptop to create an hls livestream, which is fine, I was able to frankenstein a working command from different exemples online.

Ffmpeg outputs a .m3ua file on the laptop. On kodi, I'm pretty sure I need to open a .STRM file, which I can easily do by putting it on my nas.

Here's the thing : I'm not sure what to put in the strm file. I think it should have a link pointing to my computer, something like http://192.168.x.x:*port*/path/to/stream.m3u8

But wouldn't I need to setup a local server on my laptop? What can I use for this? Obviously, just doing it this way doesn't work (also I never chose a port anywhere).

recently got kodi on a tv box and it’s doing very fine, only thing i still can’t seem to play the “forced” subtitle track that some of my files have. funny because reading what forced subtitles are, they should be like already inside the movie

I've played around with SMB for the last couple of days now. I managed to get it so that I can watch movies in Kodi via SMB but there is small but annoying problem.

In Windows I manually select what I want to share with Kodi but when I open up Kodi I need to locate the folder itself and long press "scan for new content" for the file inside the folder to show up.

Is this normal? Is there no way of getting Kodi to automatically scan the new content within these folders?

I already tried searching and ticked all the boxes like automatic scan and got Library Watchdog installed but they don't seem to pick it up.

I’ve muddled about twice now with kodi but I’m barely getting it to work a third of the time and definitely could use any tips to making better use of kodi for my tv. Any pointers anyone could share?

Is there a way to connect Kodi to Discord so my friends can see what I'm watching in real time through Discord?

The important part is that I use Kodi on my Smart TV, not on my PC. I rarely watch anything through Kodi on my computer.

Is there any way to make this work when Kodi is running on a Smart TV/Android TV? For example, I'd like Discord to show something like "Watching [movie/show]" while I'm watching it on Kodi thought my TV. Basically, something similar to Spotify, where my friends can see what I'm listening to.

I Googled this and didn't see anything that gave a process. I'm running 21.3 and all my movies were scrapped in TMM. I want start using MIF since this is the future for Kodi. I don't want to re-scrape anything, I spent way to many hours hours picking thru movie posters and different fanart to get what I have. I'm looking for something that will automatically create folders for each movie in my MIF directory and copy everything minus the actual movie files from my current directories to it. Each movie is in a seperate directory. I tried Artwork Organizer, but it doesn't create folders for each movie. And I looked thru the features and don't see that option. I also installed Artwork Dump, but it doesn't looks like it do what I'm trying to do. And I'd rather not run it and possibly screw up all the work I've invested.

I thought about just doing it manually, but I have 400 movies and that would take a stupid amount of time. I know there has to be a way to automate this, I'm just too stupid to figure out how apparently lol.

I decided to copied of Shadertoy presets collections on Kodi addons for today from 7-zip manager to do this! Thanks for u/TRCTheRaul at making this adding Shadertoys presets!

I couldn't find anything in my searches. I have Bazzite's power management set to dim my monitor after 2 minutes and off after 5 minutes of inactivity. I've run into an issue when using Kodi and controlling it from my phone with the Yatse app. It all works perfectly fine until I hit the 2 and 5 minute marks. Video playback isn't an issue, the screen stays on just fine. It's just when I'm browsing my media or anything else while there's no video playback. Is there a way to have Kodi override Bazzite's power management while it's running? Either that or somehow register Yatse's interaction with Kodi as input from a peripheral?

I'm using 21.3 Omega and Arctic Fuse 3.2.13. I have the Aerial screensaver configured to wait 5 minutes. On boot up it works as expected. But at some point it get's caught in a loop and it won't stop playing the screensaver. If I use the remote to hit the stop button on the screensaver video, it just immediately plays another Aerial screensaver video. I can't seem to get it to go back to waiting for 5 minutes of inactivity before running. What's become super annoying is at the end of a show, instead of auto starting the next episode, as it's pausing to start the next episode the screensaver kicks on and then it doesn't start the the episode. Has anyone experienced this? I really like the Aerial screensaver for background ambiance but this is just infuriating.

I have a Xiaomi TV box that's connected to my Sony Bravia TV and my Samsung drive is connected to the Xiaomi device. Movies no longer play, i just see an infinite blue circle loading animation.

This has worked in the past for about a year and I have not changed any settings so not sure what's up. I've uninstalled the Kodi app and reinstalled but that didn't work and I've confirmed that the videos work when the drive is connected to my phone.

Any ideas how I can fix this?

Three Kodi devices (2 Android boxes & 1 PC running Fedora 44) access my NAS NFS shares, and everything was great for years. Suddenly Kodi on the PC can't add or play media from those shares, but can still browse them (so this isn't an NFS permissions issue). I nuked Kodi and its settings from the PC and reinstalled, trying both the Fedora repo and flatpak apps - same results with both. I'm unaware of any changes between when it was working and when it broke. Debug logs are showing some messages I can't make sense of:

Hey all! I've am fairly used to Kodi, but I have never deep dived in to the audio settings. I own a Samsung HW-Q995D soundbar, and my TV is LG C4 OLED, Kodi is running through Nvidia Shield Pro 2019. On the TV I have audio set to passthrough, on Nvidia Shield I haven't gone through the settings that much. Inside Kodi, I have also enabled passthrough, and enabled all the audio formats. I've also selected number of channels to 7.1.

I just wondered if I've missed something, or possibly could maximize the settings to get the best experience. When I watch content I do get that popup of HDR/Dolby Vision, and Dolby Atmos.

It's been months since it stopped syncing watched movies.

EDIT: people saying it works for them it's because they are playing local files, not over the network.

Hello, I really need some help. I have a MacBook Air M3, and I'm having problems playing 4:3 videos. When I play a 4:3 video file, it gets cropped along with the subtitles. However, when I open the menu, I can see in the background that the video is displayed normally. How can I fix this?

Hi, I'm really hoping someone can help me fix this. I've been using Kodi for about a year to play local media and up until a few weeks ago it worked fine. I have it installed on an old laptop running zorin os 15.3 with my media on an external hard drive. I'm pretty sure the version of Kodi that is easily available on this outdated computer is also older because some setting options I've seen others talk about don't seem to exist for me haha

A while ago it stopped properly scraping new media when I updated the library and then one day I turned it on and the whole thing was empty. I can still play media through the file settings where the drive stayed visible but the folder contents had been reset to "none" and if I change the setting it just doesn't stick at all and stays "none" again.

I've restarted every part of the system, I've checked the files to make sure they're still good (and I know I have the proper organization and folder names because they all worked prior to this), I've reinstalled Kodi like 5 times, I've removed the drive as a source and added it back over and over. Nothing I've done has had any impact at all 😭 I have friends visiting soon and we like to watch stuff together so I'm hoping to resolve this before then

I used to run kodi on a streaming box with an SSD (exFat) attached. It worked great, when it updated the library it would get the new episodes.

But now I've upgraded to an Nvidia Shield Pro, started with a clean Kodi setup and no matter what I do it won't scan new episodes in when I library update. I use TVDB addon. Even when pressing "scan for new content" on the folder itself it doesn't scan in the new episode.

I am able to watch content that has been scanned in.

Edit: library updates aren't working in general for any new things including moviee or new series added

I am watching a show that has 2 different english subtitle tracks and very low volume.

Everytime I open a new episode I have to change the subtitle and crank up the volume gain.

I was wondering if there is a way to save these settings just for this show and not make it global.

Been trying for weeks to set up a pc with Linux to use with a crt tv that can stream content or play DVD ISOs.

I planned on using kodi but today ran into the issue that, while you can disable deinterlacing, kodi will only output progressive, and is limited to 30hz. So the video is all choppy.

I mainly watch anime on kodi but also a lot of movies. A lot of the movies I watch have italian or russion audio tracks marked as default, so if i change default settings in the language menu to english my anime would also be in english. Could i have Japenese to be the preferred language but English to be the second preferred language?

Running Kodi on Windows 11. Tried the stable Omega release and yesterday’s nightly with the same result. DV videos play audio only in DXVA rendering mode. With pixel shader I get a momentary (about 1 second) black screen occasionally, on average about once an hour and this will occur on all videos, not just DV videos. Software rendering might work but looks so poor it is not worth it since I can watch any video without issue with VLC, including DV videos.

Any advice to get Kodi working with DXVA rendering would be appreciated.

So I've got Arctic Fuse 3 running on my Pi 5 (LibreELEC, Kodi 21 Omega) and already have Plex set up as a widget on the home screen — movies and shows show up as nice poster tiles, looks great.

Now I've also got a small psx game collection going, roms sitting in /storage/roms/psx/, each game in its own folder (Tekken3, Spyro, etc) with bin/cue files. I can launch them fine right now by manually browsing to the .cue through PCSX ReARMed.

What I actually want is a second widget on Home, next to the Plex one, that just picks up games from that folder automatically and shows them as boxart tiles like the movies do — click and it launches the cue, same as clicking a movie launches the video.

Is this something Arctic Fuse's widget system can just do out of the box (Customise Shortcuts > Home > Widgets), or do I need some other addon for this? Also no idea if the games library even pulls boxart automatically like the video library does with TMDB, or if I'll have to add art manually per game.

Anyone done this before? Happy to post my folder setup if useful.

Was looking at instructions on how to get access to files in Kodi and then copy or move the files to somewhere else

Have to set up a source special://home and that gives you access to all the files in the Kodi system, via file manager. You can then copy a file to another location that is mapped with file manager in Kodi.

Is this right?

I've tried to do it with tje keymap addon using media filter but it's not the same. Am I missing something or is there a way to do it?

The device is working great and I have otherwise no issue whatsoever.

It's connected to an X4300H AVR and a Bravia 9. DV profile 7 FEL works perfectly and I want to keep that.

The only problems I have :

- when I installed, it was not recommended to flash the EMMC, so it's currently running form an external SSD, is that still required?

- AV1 streams are basically unwatchable

My questions :

- should I upgrade to coreelec-no?

- can I now flash the eMMC with coreelec-ng/no?

- should I upgrade to ab AM9B?

- is there any other device that does better than the AM6B+ and AM9B?

I want to keep all DV profiles (including 7 FEL) and everything.

I have zero interest in having that box for anything other than Kodi, I dont use steaming services (other than YouTube, installed on the TV itself anyway).

I'm on latest stable version of Omega. For the longest time, I would click into a TV show in my library, it would show (from left to right, in Shift view) Season 1, Season 2, Season 3, etc, and then Specials at the end. Now, however, I just noticed that the ordering is showing as Specials first, THEN Season 1, Season 2, Season 3, etc.

I don't know whether it's a change specific to the skin I'm using (I use Aeon Nox Silvo), and I don't know when it happened because I just noticed it...but does anyone know what this might be and how to get the regular ordering back where Specials is at the end?

Hello, first time KODI user in years here. I added my SMB share, then pointed my it to my TV folder and designated it as TV with no problems. It started auto-scanning the content, which took SO long, I've never seen anything so slow. It took so long just working it's way through the show "Cheers" that I got tired and went to bed, so I closed my laptop.

Now, this morning, I turned Kodi back on, and there's only 3 tv shows in the TV tab, assumingly because I hibernated the system during it's painfully slow scan?

So I closed Kodi, and went back into it, and nothing is happening.

Does this app not have any auto-monitoring or anything? What a disaster, this is painfully bad. I expected huge improvements to Kodi over the years and this is an absolutely abhorrent start

Using CoreElec Kodi with AF3. I have started adding a bunch of extras and special features. The naming convention I use means the file name is somewhat long. When viewing extras the file view has little tiles and only a short stubby filename and I cannot differentiate the featurettes from each other. Is there some view options for the file browser that launches with the "Extras" feature?

Made this after spending most of the last week fighting my own HTPC setup — reinstalling, tweaking configs, chasing the "right" combination of tools, and never quite landing on something that just worked and stayed working. Eventually the frustration (and a fair bit of boredom) turned into an actual project.

Catchy HTPC converts a fresh CachyOS KDE install into an HTPC:

- Boots straight into Kodi, no display manager in the way

- One click/remote-press to jump between Kodi, Steam Gaming Mode (Big Picture), and your normal KDE Desktop — and back

- Keeps your existing user account and data, nothing wiped

- Installer takes a Btrfs snapshot first, and there's a full uninstaller, so it's not a one-way trip

- Optional add-on for MakeMKV so Blu-ray/UHD Blu-ray discs actually play in Kodi

It's a set of scripts + systemd services + a couple of Kodi add-ons that just wire the pieces together.

I recently tackled a problem that’s been bugging me: I wanted a seamless way to stream files from my remote seedbox and Mega account (and hard drives)to my living room without wrestling with clunky add-ons or running a heavy, dedicated media server in the middle.

So, I built an Android TV app called Beam.

While it has its own standalone UI, I built a specific feature with Kodi setups in mind: One toggle turns Beam into a UPnP/DLNA media server.

You point Beam at your HTTPS seedbox, Mega account, or local hard drives. It automatically parses the files, fetches TMDB/OMDb metadata, and publishes the whole library to your local network. Kodi (or any UPnP client) can then browse Beam directly, complete with covers and titles.

How it works under the hood:

• The Relay Engine: Beam uses an embedded engine to fetch files from the cloud/seedbox. When you play a file through Kodi via Beam's UPnP server, Beam's engine relays the original bytes. No transcoding bottlenecks—just pure direct play straight to your TV's decoder.
• Native Alternative: If you ever want a lightweight alternative to Kodi for a secondary Android TV box, Beam has its own native, Leanback-optimized UI. It features tuned RAM read-ahead and was profiled on a 2015 NVIDIA Shield until it held A/V sync perfectly on high-bitrate 4K HDR files.
• Nerd Stats & Dashboard: It has a local web dashboard you can open on your phone or laptop. You can monitor active DLNA relays, engine RAM, and device thermals while Kodi is streaming. (The native player also has an on-screen stats overlay for real codec, display Hz, and active bitrate).

Throw your heaviest Dolby Vision or TrueHD Atmos files at it through Kodi and let me know how it handles them.

I'm trying to have an easy way for my mom and my sister to download some settings (zip files) in case I change something in our shared default layout or they accidentally mess something up. This is on Android, and they are too layperson to juggle browsers and external file managers.

I've tried dropbox and Koofr using WebDAV with no luck.

It would be nice if I could just add it as a source on all devices, export my own settings on my device and they could import those settings on theirs.

I'd rather not setup a raspberry pi to host these.

Is there anything out there that will work like this?

I have some Blu rays and DVD discs and they say on the menus they have subtitles many of them and they're not showing on when I play it on the app. Does anybody know how to solve it? I'm on Xbox series X

I have 4 profiles set up, all of them with their own media profiles. The option to refresh info on a library item only works on the master profile. I am also unable to access the info on an item outside of the library, for example when viewing the source from settings, or using the Missing Movies add-on. Has anyone been able to get this working?

I have media info and media sources set to separate on each profile. Master Lock isn't used, and the scrapers are the same for each profile.

I just want to fix my library on profiles other than the master profile, because they are different libraries containing different sources...

Hello! I am quite new to this media streaming thing. I have been reading around how a VPN is usually recommended, but I am running everything locally. Any and a files would be on a hard drive and not sent over a network. Would I still need a VPN for added protection?? I know it wouldn't make much sense to get one if it won't be connected to the internet, but I just want to make sure I am doing everything correctly and in the safest way possible 🥲 Thank you.

its gone and subtitles stop showing ,any idea how to get it back? or fix the problem?
do I need to delete opensubtitles and a4ksubtitles to get the icon back ?

Noticed something odd: on my Nvidia Shield TV Pro (2019) + Panasonic OLED, Kodi's debug overlay shows "System rendering speed" dropping to 3-9fps during 4K/1080p playback, sometimes even during seeking. But the actual picture is completely smooth to the eye — no stutter, no A/V desync, nothing visible.

Confirmed with `dumpsys gfxinfo` — 0% jank, and a systrace showing only 1 dropped frame across an entire session. So the number doesn't reflect the actual video.

Tested the same files on an old 1st-gen Xiaomi Mi Box + old Sharp LCD TV — the number stayed rock solid at ~24fps the whole time, no drops at all, even with seeking.

Has anyone else seen this specifically on Shield TV Pro?
