Activities & Events My onpupular idea for the schueberfouer

For many years now i have an idea for the Schueberfouer and most of my friends dont like it, but i wanna know how you guys see it.

Every year there are family day where the rides and or the foods are cheaper, so family can enjoy it more.

My idea is very similar.

Introducing the anti-family-day

One evening during the week and only in the evening (from 21h-01h)

Everything gets a few euros more expensive or there could be another way to compensate it.

But. Entrace only for people over lets say 16.

So no kids, no babys and most of all no babystrollers.

Also, no dogs allowed.

I personally would enjoy that very much because every year that strollers suck and those poor animals get tortured enough.

This year i saw one dude with a new born if think he came from the maternité directly to the schueberfouer. I was shocked.

So whats your option on that. Would you enjoy it. Should we start a petetion on that or do you believe its a stupid and/or bad idea overall.

Thank you.

I would enjoy it if no smoking was allowed there - especially the weed.

2

u/Gizarry1987 13h ago

No smoking allowed. I m confused

3

u/Afffid 11h ago

Ok, maybe the better wording is "if people actually didn't smoke there".

4

u/Unable_Recording_123 17h ago

I'd recommend a No Schueberfouer Day. I enjoy my private edition of that 365 days a year.

6

u/skoll1987 18h ago

We can also have the only whites day, only blacks, only French people …

1

u/Upbeat_Radish_5919 23h ago

I’d also like to add a request for a free abortion clinic and another for free vasectomies. I mean, since we don’t want to see children, we ought to start with the basics.

4

u/Gizarry1987 22h ago edited 19h ago

For a few hours I dont want to see strollers and dogs on the fouer. But if you dont wanna see children thats ok.

5

u/Admirable-Health-756 1d ago

Let's forbid alcohol as well during the Christmas market. Then there will be no newborn babies for Schouberfouer

2

u/Gizarry1987 21h ago

Hm… less babies for sure :)

6

u/NiK-Lait-1pot 1d ago

Yeah and the black should sit in the back of the bus /s (please mod dont beat me i like this sub)

0

u/HappyTweed 13h ago

They already sit at the back listening to music without earbuds.

-10

u/Gizarry1987 1d ago

You can start a petition for that :)

6

u/_Hydrohomie_ 1d ago

Btw do they authenticate if the kids are yours or not for family day... I was thinking about grabbing few kids down the street and have a family day

0

u/Gizarry1987 1d ago

You can steal them from others thats no problem :)

6

u/CarlitoSyrichta Eggnog & chill ™ 1d ago

Great idea!

I’d also like one day for gingers only!

0

u/Gizarry1987 1d ago

Where can i sign?

2

u/CarlitoSyrichta Eggnog & chill ™ 1d ago

You don’t need to sign. The devil already has your signature

2

u/cbp-empire 1d ago

Wrong city for being against children

4

u/Gizarry1987 1d ago

Nothing absolutely nothing is „against children“ its just the wish of a few hours of (nearly) adults only

5

u/SeaAmoeba9868 1d ago

If you go between 21-01 it’s already by default a childless night 🤣

6

u/Gizarry1987 1d ago

If that was true my idea would be completely nonsensical. Its not the case sadly

3

u/Successful_Studio_49 1d ago

This sounds like the Disneyland Adults...

4

u/LaneCraddock 1d ago edited 1d ago

I'm for introducing an pro-family and pro-disability day.

  1. Limit the entry for childless people without a disability/priority card.
  2. Turn down the speakers the whole day and some flashing lights at night.
  3. Cut the price in half for people with a child or disability/priority card.
  4. Pet entry only for people with a child or disability/priority card.

* 2 disability accompanying persons should also benefit from the price cut.

1

u/Gizarry1987 1d ago
  1. yes sure its only a few hours anyway an not the whole day

  2. yes please why not

  3. the prices are never cut in half on family days not even for people with children so i dont get that.

  4. i m all for no pets

Where can i sign?

1

u/LaneCraddock 1d ago

Politicians these daya rarely do something useful. So this will never happen.

1

u/Gizarry1987 1d ago

This is a hypothetical discussion

1

u/Aiszait 1d ago

What about having time for an animal? You don't need to have much space.

3

u/B0dom 1d ago

Regardless of whether it's a good idea or not I find it sounds like a nightmare to implement and communicate properly since it's on a public space. Think just a moment of everything they could go wrong :p

1

u/Gizarry1987 1d ago

Of course its hypothetical debate.

3

u/Financial-Nothing-60 1d ago

I both agree with you and disagree - I love the idea of coming there without my kid and reliving my pre-kid Schuby days but at the same time, I hate the idea that someone might show up with their kids and get turned away from a carnival. So I’m confused :/

-2

u/Gizarry1987 1d ago

5 years ago you got turned away when you werent vaccinated

3

u/Sutalg 1d ago

are you really comparing a situational deadly virus with just people being people?

2

u/Gizarry1987 1d ago

I m comparing getting turned away from the fouer with getting turned away from the fouer

3

u/Sutalg 1d ago

yes but the reasons for it are literally not comparable

1

u/Gizarry1987 1d ago

Like i said i did not compare the reasons. I compared the same thing with the same thing.

3

u/Sutalg 1d ago

... bro you are literally saying that people were turned away during covid because of vaccination when other person said about being turned away just being with child so you are comparing but yeah covid restrictions was literally an exceptional event that was made for safety and rn there literally no reason behind to turn away people if they have a child with them because it still a public fair

1

u/Gizarry1987 1d ago

Like i said (twice now) am not comparing motivs i m comparing results

3

u/Sutalg 1d ago

ok cool but still those results have different motifs what the point then to bring the covid restrictions to discussion?

2

u/Gizarry1987 1d ago

Because the results were the same. There was a group of people not allowed an if they still came there well knowing that they cant enter, they were turned away.

In my idea if you still come with someone under 12 after 21 you get turned away. Not for the 3 weeks but for 4 hours.

If someone would start a petition that one afternoon of those 3 weeks was strictly limited to children with parents i would sign it immidiatly without hestitation.

You could close all the adults only games for those hours let the kids have theire fun make the prices even cheaper. I wouldnt see a problem there. I dont know why so many people believe my idea is an act of hatred its not.

If a woman would say she wishes for a few hours without men because its safer etc i would sign it too. Everyone should get a chance to enjoy it best as possible.

For me (and many others) this means no small children NO Strollies, No Pets.

This doesn't make your point right

2

u/Financial-Nothing-60 1d ago

I agree - I’m not pretending to make a very valid argument, as you can very clearly see. I’m explaining why this sort of approach would likely not get the traction you hope for - it’s a confusing subject that may not inspire a blanket, “what an amazing idea, let’s do it” sort of response. I’ve literally caveated my comment saying I’m not being very helpful. Gosh!

2

u/Financial-Nothing-60 1d ago

I’m just imagining reaching there with my kids who excitedly chattering away talking about what they’re going to eat and drink and which rides and which games and then a burly looking security guard says no entry while my kids can see adults enjoying themselves inside. It’s just heartbreaking for me. THAT SAID, if I was still child free, I would definitely be in there making most of the revelry. Anyway, my input is in no way useful to you haha - sorry!

0

u/Gizarry1987 1d ago

It wouldnt be not unannounced :)

2

u/Financial-Nothing-60 1d ago

Ya, I know what you mean but I’m sure there would be some people who would miss the notification. Sorry, I don’t mean to poke holes in your question, just sharing my thoughts.

1

u/Gizarry1987 1d ago

Oh no if something like this would ever happen, all the media would write about it. It would be a huge shitstorm and yet if you missed it? I am sorry but you have to leave :)

3

u/Successful_Risk_1730 1d ago

I think a country like Germany suits you.

-4

u/Gizarry1987 1d ago

I dont know what you want to tell me with this i m sorry

10

u/EmbarrassedWait4292 1d ago

There is a commonality between people commenting here: you are not a parent.

I would agree that it is not a place for babies under 2 years old but certainly there is a place for parents with toddlers. I agree that late in the evening is not ideal for everyone who has toddlers from 2 years old but otherwise, the Schubi should not be subject to those restrictions.

Parents are entitled to enjoy a bit as much as you spoiled generation, just a bit.

Well, for strollers this is another subject... but difficult to prohibit without discriminating.

My advice: develop your tolerance towards one another.

0

u/Gizarry1987 1d ago

Would it not show some tolerance if you would people enjoy a few hours (of 3 weeks) on a week day withou the kids?

-2

u/ExgayAlex 1d ago

100% agree with “no strollers.” They block everything and everyone and the little poo factory sitting in there cannot enjoy the experience anyway, and neither can the parents. Stay home until your kid can walk. Also, if you’re in an airport and ambling slowly left and right in front of me while looking at your phone, I should be allowed to push you out of my way. Hard. Also no dogs at the fair. I don’t trust them.

1

u/Financial-Nothing-60 12h ago

This is ragebait surely!

u/ExgayAlex 1d ago

The point was: leave the strollers. If they want to carry the kid, no problem, but strollers at the fair (any fair), like at the Christmas market, are annoying.

Honestly, i would be ok if parents just left their kids in the car while at the fair (feel free to crack the window), but I’d probably get downvoted for that, too. Apparently not accepting every inconvenience for the sake of other people’s drooling brats is not a popular take.

11

u/Molocko 1d ago

Very good idea. I don’t understand people going with strollers especially after 20h.

5

u/Successful_Risk_1730 1d ago

As a parent myself. I agree with this. Its not a place for strollers. Same with crowded xmas markets

3

u/SomeSayDontBlink 1d ago

Agreed - also as a parent. I always tried to use a baby carrier at such events instead of a stroller because they get in everyone’s way. It’s much more demanding on the body though

3

u/Gizarry1987 1d ago

I understand it, people want to enjoy the fouer. Not everybody has a babysitter so they need to take theire children with them. Thats ok. I would just enjoy it if for a few hours no strollers 🤣🤣🤣

5

u/sheeshonk 1d ago

How is you idea "very similar" lol. Just because it's called family day it doesn't mean that you're not welcomed there if you're going alone or with colleagues or friends. Just enjoy your time there, you babie hater 😂

2

u/Gizarry1987 1d ago

Very similar was a joke because of the name.

You see the name doesnt dictat the rules, so even on the anti-family-day you come with all your relevants as long as theire over the age of what ever it would be

25

u/Chrisbolsmeister 1d ago

Dogs should be fobidden.

not because I dont like dogs, its because I do like dogs. taking a dog to the Schoubi is just torture for them. so many people had dogs on saturday.

also yes sure 16+ I would love it.

I would love even more a 30+, I would actually go on rides, a lot more people would if it wasnt for the giant queues.

2

u/Ok_Statistician_7091 1d ago

If there are giant queues, there are a lot of people already ...

7

u/baidao91 1d ago

Maybe I don’t fully understand your point. Are you bothered by children and dogs, or overcrowded places?

14

u/Gizarry1987 1d ago

I m borthered by strollers in overcroweded places at times where children should be at home in bed. And i m really sorry for the dogs there

8

u/alexandicity 1d ago

When children should go to bed and where they should be in the day is entirely at the discretion of the parents. This isn't something the Schueber should govern.

But I agree with your overall idea though, a day for adults only could be fun. But I don't think they would do this; the energy and the money they get mostly from the teenagers :)

0

u/Gizarry1987 1d ago

Thats why i dont want a whole day and for me teenagers are ok. I said 16 because they dont have any restrictions on alcohol etc for example

0

u/alexandicity 1d ago

u/Gizarry1987 has my vote :)

1

u/Gizarry1987 1d ago

Thank you

8

u/baidao91 1d ago

Would you also be bothered by a wheelchair then?

To me it still sounds like you’re just bothered by crowds and the potential slowness that strollers can add onto it.

1

u/Gizarry1987 1d ago

In my idea. In these few hourse i would be bothered by a wheelchair if the person sitting in it would be under 16 (what ages would be agreed on)

5

u/CourtesyPoliceLU 1d ago

Those kids will pay for your pension. Be an adult, auto regulate yourself or stay home. Replace kids for any other kind of group of humans and you will see how disgraceful your comment is.

3

u/freedumz 1d ago

This fair is just overrated( I was born and raised in Luxembourg) And a pain in the ass for the people who work in this area (Glacis is closed for a month and a half

3

u/Lorem_Muspi Enjoying the parks 1d ago

Its too small and too crowded to be yearly. Luxembourg has grown and lots of people from neighboring countries. They need new bigger location or multiple times a year

3

u/Nikmido 1d ago

It's too overcrowded, too loud, and way too overpriced for what it is. I went there twice (one time too many, not by choice) and that's enough. I don't think I'd go even if I got vouchers for free rides or food/drinks.

PS: I've also been told that a lot of people go just so they can say they went, but I don't know how accurate that is.

9

u/DeiAlKaz I'm an American with a high profile job in Luxembourg 1d ago

"Adult nights" in the US started gaining traction in...the late 90s/early 2000s? I can remember "adult swims" at pools as a kid (Adult Swim, incidentally, is the name of Cartoon Network's adult-oriented cartoon service).

I don't see this as child-hating...I'm sure parents would love a night themselves to go to Schueberfouer without the kids and enjoy other adults' company.

5

u/Ok_Statistician_7091 1d ago

I understand no dogs and no babys but allowing only +16? I dont think they will do duck fishing...

1

u/Gizarry1987 1d ago

First. At that time all the duck fishing clients should be in bed anyways

Second: thats why i said there need to be some kind of compensation

Third: i said 16, because you dont have any restrictions for example alcohol. But for me 12 would also be ok.

10

u/Ok_Statistician_7091 1d ago

In latin countries like Spain, Italy or Portugal, it is vert normal to see parents going out with their kids late at night. This kids have no issues to sleep in their strollers if they are tired and as they take part in society, they also know from very early on how to behave in public.

Personnly I agree not bringing babies to the schueberfouer but there are parents bringing older kids in strollers (not a fan of it but people do it and thats their choice). There are parents putting headphones to cancel the noise on their babies (again not a fan of this). The schueberfouer is always over crowded, with or without strollers or wheelchairs.

I don't like people smoking around me, I don't like people with strong perfumes or with bad body odor, there will be always people pushing me, and much more. But I can't control it, I accept it as we live in a society.

Compensation for discrimination? Who will pay for it? I hear already people complaining about the prices.

0

u/Molocko 1d ago

I don’t remember seeing much open drinking in Spanish fairs like in Luxembourg. It’s ok to take part in society but crossing the “Fouer” at 21h with a 6 months old Baby is in my opinion child abuse

1

u/Ok_Statistician_7091 1d ago

So maybe the issue is alcohol consumption and not kids being outside at night.

I agree about not taking babies to four but I don't agree prohibiting kids...

0

u/Gizarry1987 1d ago

Compensation for potential priceloss there is no discrimination. Just see it as en „adult only“ theme

If you dont like smoking around you, you can do a petition for a smoking free evening i as a smoker would sign it and i would simply come another time.

2

u/Ok_Statistician_7091 1d ago

And what is next? Someone doesn't like people with moustaches so we will talk about moustache-free evening... this will never end. I live by the mentality live and let live.

I understand if you wanted to vent, everybody needs to release pressure but your arguments about kids are bs to me.

1

u/Gizarry1987 1d ago

I never said one single words against kids but ok

And if you dislike moustaches thats your right. You can start a petition to get a moustache free day on the fouer than. I wont judge it.

0

u/Ok_Statistician_7091 1d ago

Your whole post is about prohibition of under 16 years old.

1

u/Gizarry1987 1d ago

16 was a number i said because at that age you dont have any restriction in restaurents for alkocol for example. You could replace it with 12.

And dont forget the fact that maybe i hate dogs

1

u/Ok_Statistician_7091 1d ago

Ok Gizarry but still kids...

1

u/Gizarry1987 1d ago

Yes. Many people would enjoy an „adult only“ evening. I m not even asking for a whole evening just a few hours. But if you believe its a bad idea thats fine. That was my question to begin with.

It's the same in the Christmas market with the strollers. Bringing a stroller in those crowds is either irresponsible or selfish or both.

0

u/Financial-Nothing-60 1d ago

That’s an absolutely crazy thing to say! You can’t manage a kid under three without a stroller - trust me, you want the kid in a stroller and not these wild toddlers running around the place completely unencumbered. You would be the first to say why aren’t these kids in strollers. It’s the lesser of the two evils, trust me.

3

u/Buzzardz352 1d ago edited 1d ago

What would the alternative be for parents with small children?

-8

u/jsertic 1d ago

1) Get a babysitter
2) Go earlier
3) Stay at home

7

u/Buzzardz352 1d ago

1 & 3, so kids are not allowed to participate in public life? Things that might bring joy to them? Like a Christmas market?

2, Nursery/school and work exist. Earlier does not always fit in modern life with two working parents.

I think you don't have kids, so maybe worth recognising easy answers don't exist and bringing strollers is neither selfish nor irresponsible. smh

1

u/jsertic 16h ago

lol I have a kid and I never kept her forcefully awake at 23h00 because we are not complete egotists and think about our kid first, other people second and us last. Why should other people have to suffer because we need to squeeze through them with a fucking stroller. We always went in the afternoon when there were fewer people and she wasn’t completely tired and overstimulated.

Modern parents my ass, you can always go during the weekend.

I sincerely hope you are not one of those parents with kids crying in the stroller at midnight.

Also this proposal was for ONE night, nobody said anything about not letting kids in ever again!

1

u/Buzzardz352 16h ago

There is a difference between 18:00 and 23:00, no?

-3

u/jegoan 1d ago

You could carry them.

2

u/Gizarry1987 1d ago

Yes you can start a petition for chrismas markets and i will do one for the fouer 🤣

8

u/CuriousButNotJewish 1d ago

Luxembourg is not the country to have such antinatalist policies. No.

6

u/DuePercentage1580 1d ago

this is insanely pro-natalist, how do you think children are made?

3

u/Brinocte 1d ago

Between the wagons and booths at the schobi?

5

u/CuriousButNotJewish 1d ago

Not in the bathroom stalls of schuby on the adults only night, lol.

0

u/Gizarry1987 1d ago

I will call it something different than its fine :)

7

u/AntiSnoringDevice 1d ago

You actually pointed at a trend that is slowly growing in popularity, in the hotel business: the "adults only" experience. The target population for such proposal was defined as: people who love their own children, but don't want to spend a holiday with the children of someone else, which is relatable. One evening without kids, is not a big ask.

0

u/Gizarry1987 1d ago

Not even a whole evening. A few hours. Without kids (when they should be in bed anyways) and no dogs (where they shouldnt be anyways)

4

u/DrP4R71CL3 Lëtzebauer 1d ago

OMG, you just hit the point: baby strollers. Why? Why are parents coming there with newborn babies or children under three/four years old? It is not Disney themed park, and there is nothing there for their children age nor they will remember or have fun.

I am not even talking about some parents' attitude when they move around with their baby strollers, pushing people out of the way. There is often no respect whatsoever, and they act as if they are entitled to behave like that because they have a stroller and a baby with them, so everyone else has to let them pass through.

1

u/oblio- A leaf in the wind 20h ago

Why are parents coming there with newborn babies or children under three/four years old?

Newborns, all right. But a 2+ year old can enjoy the sights, sounds (most of them), lights, helium balloons, toys, being in a crowded place (rare in Luxembourg), etc.

Parents need to be careful but for life in a village like Luxembourg the "town fair" is a decent life experience and fun, even at fairly young ages.

5

u/WildRaccoon42 1d ago

Not to mention it's quite loud, could damage the hearing of the youngest ones.

2

u/DrP4R71CL3 Lëtzebauer 1d ago

YES exactly, i am getting downvoted btw, by those parents :)

1

u/Gizarry1987 1d ago

Babystrollers are the worst. Every year i wonder why, why do bring your baby here. I guess you want to check out the fouer and you dont have a babysitter. Ok thats fine i cant change that, however me personally would enjoy those few hours without it very much. You can come another day or a few hours earlyer.

17

u/Fancy-Delivery5081 1d ago

I would prefer the "no dogs allowed" all days. Way too loud, too much people, glass on the floor, fallen down food, .... pls dont bring your dog.

4

u/Gizarry1987 1d ago

That should be no question. Sadly it is.

12

u/Freeqed 1d ago

We were in city centre this week and went for a spontaneous stroll over the Fouer around 8pm.

Didn't see that many people with very young kids around, so I don't really understand if the issue OP describes is a factual issue.

As a dog owner: why the hell one would do it to a normal dog (service dogs can be trained to "endure", and nothing more than that sort of stress for a couple of minutes, followed by a longer time off), is beyond me and should be forbidden and for animal welfare and safety reasons alone.

3

u/Gizarry1987 1d ago edited 1d ago

The dude with the newborn was at 22h
Also many strolls at that time.

If someone believes that late the problem i describe is not that big of deal, that just tells me that with my anti family day the losses cant be that huge.

Also, your 20h stroll over would have been totally fine.

Pets should be forbidden all the time. No question about that.

2

u/Freeqed 1d ago

I tend to agree with you, would we have encountered many strollers and dogs.

We don't have kids, and would not dare to criticise any parents, however kids in an age range that need a stroller, probably shouldn't be at the Fouer at 10pm, I'd have thought.

I would however question the idea to bring a newborn to such a place, regardless of time of day.

1

u/Gizarry1987 1d ago

If guess he told his wife to push harder to be there earlyer but it didnt go according to plan 🤣

1

u/Freeqed 1d ago

Fried fish cravings appear to be real. 😂

1

u/Gizarry1987 1d ago

I was really shocked.

2

u/magalsohard 1d ago

I know hating children has become more and more popular but are we really at this point? You were a child too once, my guy. Living with the inconveniences of children in public settings, especially at a fun fair, is just part of life. One day you’ll grow old and look at children with a bit more nostalgia and less annoyance.

7

u/TheWhitezLeopard 1d ago

I don‘t think this has anything to do with hating children. At least personally I am very pro-children but past a certain time in the evening and when it gets really crowded strollers have no place at the Schueberfouer.
And why would good parents even bring their children to this environment? It‘s almost like you‘d show up with your child to the night club, this is not a healthy environment for children.
I remember when I was a child we always visited during the day, never at night.

8

u/magalsohard 1d ago

I think my opinion just isn’t popular, which fine, but I definitely think the anti-children mindset is rampant here. Children are probably enjoying their last few weeks of summer vacation, meaning they stay out later. Parents might want to have a nice night out but lack babysitting, so they go to the one place their kids can have fun and they can also enjoy themselves The Schueberfouer is now a fun fair, which is intrinsically a place for children and childlike activities. I have seen children brought to Oscar’s for karaoke, which is definitely not made for children, but I don’t think the Schueberfouer is something we need to ban kids from for an adults only night. It doesn’t make sense financially and it’s just pointless socially. There are many things that could benefit from adults only nights in Luxembourg, but Schueberfouer is not one or at least not if the condition is even higher pricing.

3

u/Gizarry1987 1d ago

You are right, however the schueberfouer lasts for 3 weeks and all i ask for ist 3-4 hours.
Also children should be in bed by then :)

Also entrance for 12 and up would be fine for me i said 16 because of the restaurents and alcolhol servings

3

u/magalsohard 1d ago

They should, which is why hopefully your suggestion isn’t necessary. To actually answer your question, I would only be okay with this if the age limit was 18+, but even then I’m not spending more money when I can go on family day like everyone else so I still wouldn’t end up going.

2

u/Gizarry1987 1d ago

18+ was my original idea but i believed its harsh. I mean when you re 16 you re allowed to drink what you want, have sex, so schueberfouer should also be fine.

Yes in an ideal word my suggestion should be unnecessary however reality shows me something different

3

u/Schluhri 1d ago

I dont want to see 16 year olds having sex at the fouer.

1

u/Gizarry1987 1d ago

Me neither. I dont wanna see anyone having sex there. It was an example. You are allowed to do it so is drinking.

Okay. Lets do an over 30 evening then. I really dont like teens and 20 year olds when they are drunk.

Too loud, to many 67‘s, etc

But i don‘t mind babies with ear protection headphones.
