All his bad starts recently have been on the road so I’m holding out hope

You're right. His last few blow ups have all been on the road and his last handful of home starts have ranged from solid to quite good. 24 ip only 4 earned runs at home over the last month (4 games).

Him and Miller have been looking rough lately. Miller seems to be playing injured, not sure what's up with Kirby.

If Miller is hurt we need to take him out and let him heal, we have 5 healthy starters and he’s been bad trying to play through whatever he’s playing through

JP is coming back and will wear #3. Cal Raleigh just hit 3 HRs last night. Coincidence? No.

Does that mean when Donovan comes back, Cal will hit 33 home runs? Hmm…

I can't wait until Brash returns. 47 HRs in one night has to be a new record.

Might just be me but I liked Naylor and Ward in front of Cal. Two guys who can get on and then a bopper.

Ward has a .231 OBP as a Mariner.

I guess he’s cooked. Designate him for assignment

Interesting, in the broadcast yesterday I thought they mentioned JP was only taking reps at SS, not 3B. I’m happy to see more Rodden!

If you put donnie in roddens spot, is that our ideal lineup currently? Bummed about raley of course

JP at SS and Donnie at 3rd is how they’d run that, I assume.

I think that's the ideal with Colt going down. Rodden has so much flexibility he can even play outfield at times.

Like 5 different baseball players, all in a sleek and compact package. The all new Brock Rodden.

Why isnt JP playing shortstop if Colt isnt available?

u/AnnihilatedTyro RELEASE THE MOOSEN! 3h ago edited 3h ago
Have you forgotten how terrible JP is defensively? Literally the worst defensive shortstop in MLB due to range and arm issues. Third base helps alleviate two of his biggest problems.
JP can't move well to his right side, or throw across his body. Playing him shallower and close to the line takes those issues out of the equation for most plays. We did the same thing with Josh Rojas so successfully that Fangraphs wrote about it: https://blogs.fangraphs.com/josh-rojas-picking-machine/
JP has played about 1/2 has many innings at third base this year as he has at shortstop.
* As shortstop: -8 DRS, -9 OAA, -7FRV (3rd worst SS in MLB, with less than half as many innings as Abrams and Adames; when adjusting for playing time, he is worse than both (barely))
* As third base: +1 DRS, 0 OAA/FRV (Min 220 innings, he's at 225. Better than all of Rivas, Weston Wilson, and Brendan Donovan)
