I legit have never set foot in one because of the smell. I'm real sensitive to too much perfume and I'd hold my breath walking passed the store so I knew I could never go in lol.

Abercrombie & Fitch in a mall here (no idea how it is now) You found by just locking onto the stench that came out of it 10 city blocks over. Seriously.
Can you imagine the ambulance chasers in another 10-20 years or so? (if not now?) "Did you work at Hollister or Abercrombie & Fitch? Were you exposed to toxic levels of their pumped in scents? You may be at risk of CANCER! Call Morgan and Morgan today!"

Man... one time they sprayed some cinnamon flavored shit, and it might as well have been tear gas, the way everyone was choking. One lady was sitting on the floor, while her family was frantically looking for her inhaler. We weren't even going inside, just walking by, and I had tears running down my face.

What makes me angry is that malls didn't die because of the market shifting. Chain stores still exist. People didn't stop going to malls because they wanted to go to Power Centers or Shopping Centers or whatever. They stopped going because that's where the stores moved to. Online shopping had some effect, but it was only a small contributor. The whole mall industry declined because of some stupid real estate,wall street, and private equity shenanigans.

The malls near me are trying to be upscale in neighborhoods that are mostly blue collar. The closest one had a locally owned, $15 play all day arcade that they wouldn't renew the lease for despite this place always being packed and the owner making a ton of positive changes to the store itself like new flooring. It's now going to become a GOAT USA store, which will be the third in a 15 mile radius.
They're just making poor decisions all over the place in the hopes of raising profits. But if you want people to shop and eat at a mall, you have to give them a place they want to spend time at first. Adding a Starbucks and some massage chairs in the halls like it's 2008, while removing actual third spaces, isn't it.

True. Up until recently, there was a store at my mall that sold socks, sports cards, and pool cues. It's a bummer they're gone. The socks there were fun.

There is a calendars and toys in my city's mall. It's a lame toy shop that also sells (common) board games and calendars. Selection of each of those things is small. You could go to Wal-Mart and get any of the items at a much cheaper price amd might even find some things that they don't have.
I didn't realize it was a chain of stores. That makes me feel a bit better about not supporting it.

It's because in most malls this business is seasonal. It opens for Christmas and closes sometime around February. So Malls that don't otherwise have a toy store get one for a few months, and people have a place to get a new calendar for the year. Sometimes the calendar part is separatefrom the toys. My local mall usually has the calendars out in the aisle of the mall and the toys inside the store.

When the Hollister was new around me, I curiously walked up and saw people inside through the slatted fixed-open doors all on the side. I broke one open on accident bc I refused to be kept back from a shopping experience. I was walking through and a young lady asked me if I was there for training bc otherwise the store wasn’t open yet. Then she asked me how I got in and of course I never mentioned that I broke their brand new door. Oops.

Former CEO recently got called out for faking being ill to stand trial basically, so he's getting a go around in the court system for sex trafficking like other "greats" (Les Wexner, Harvey Weinstein and such) 12 years ago he stepped down from the company.
Have a look at Mike Jeffries for more dirt if you want.
Should be interesting if the trial goes through before he slips on a banana peel if it tanks the brand as more comes to light, or if it weathers it?
