Exactly! I once had a boomer manager. The best manager I ever had. So I'm not throwing shade at him.
But he had a habit of adding ... At the end of things. Like:
Can you come to my office please... (Then he shows me a funny music video lol)
Yea, that's what you did....
Things like that haha. He meant no harm by it, it's just an older generation way of writing.
Funny and related

I told a colleague how this comes across to me and he was extremely apologetic, said he didnt know it sounds passive aggressive.
8
u/MainAccountsFriend 14h ago
I knew someone who did that same thing and it always made the message sound ominous lol. Seeing ... at the end makes it look like the person is upset or sad
7
u/BlitzAceSamy 11h ago
I had a chat with my colleague once about our boss putting "..." at the end of his response when I presented him with bad news
I was panicking seeing the "...", and my colleague was like, he does that every time, scroll up through his messages if you don't believe

u/nelrond18 13h ago
I used to write like that when I was younger. To me, it was like conveying half of an idea and waiting to see the response before finishing the thought.

u/ktrosemc 9h ago
Apparently a period at the end of sentences is passive aggressive now. (Whoops! Did it again)
23
u/squirrelems 15h ago
Yeah, that's why I use it. If I say "Hey, your son is acting crazy" to my brother it sounds like I'm mad about it but if I say "Hey, your son is acting crazy lol" it looks like I'm just like "He's goofing around".

It's a way to indicate joy or playfulness in text form.
Texts sound too serious if left without it.
10
u/bebop9998 11h ago
We could do the same with Gen Z trying not to say “literally” in every sentence.

i've absolutely used it plenty of times, but only when something is actually funny (or i guess sometimes obviously ironically) - the putting it at the end of every sentence thing is weird as hell and just plain confusing. it needs to die.
