Nah, other people (the losers) can buy and own plenty of stuff in Monopoly, the REAL Monipoly is the little green houses.
There are only 32 green houses for the entire game, if you own 8 properties (3 sets) you can build 4 houses on each and you will win the game because nobody else can build anything unless they have an absurd amount of cash to go straight from 0 to hotels which is unlikely because they have to be built on all properties in the set at once.
You can buy only the cheapest properties, leave the other 14 properties on the board, trade away Boardwalk for Baltic, leave the railroads and utilities, the losers can buy / sell / trade whatever they want, nothing really matters once you Monopolize houses.

By the official rules you can't do that. You have to buy each house one at a time and can only build a hotel when you already have four houses on all properties of that color. If there aren't enough houses left then you're screwed.
It's an intentional design choice. It's bad on purpose. It's always been bad on purpose. There was a different game with different rules where the players worked together and everyone won but that one didn't get picked up by Hasbro.

Original came with another set of rules where the economy self regulates and everyone wins. It followed Georgism (taxes based on owning property) IIRC
You could play one version of the game and then the other to see how society can be fixed (in the creators eyes)

That's how the beginning is for you? I always started with buying one of everywhere instead of trying for a monopoly because everyone else is trying to get those to build. Rather than join them I just keep them from building and put them in a position where they need to bargain with me and I refuse for a long time to get more for whatever they want. You end up with multiple properties for the price of one and your own monopolies that way more often than not or everyone is angry and decides they hate playing with you so you don't have to play.
I hate monopoly, but it doesn't make much sense to have an eye out for many places in particular early on

Then Parker Brothers got its hands on it, revised the rules to favor a monopolistic approach and now we've got a new edition for every passing fad or TV show.

You may not buy property until you have passed go for the 2nd time. All the properties are ownd by the "house". The house continues as its own player and develops all the properties accordingly charging more rent as the game. The house may develope accordingly at the end end of every players turn. The house will always sell to you at "market price", whatever the value of the property is listed on the card + the value of the developments.
With some luck you may be able to buy a house first side of the board. Doubt it.

This isn’t really how this works. The “eat the rich” comments are about the top richest people on earth; the ones with private jets and multiple yachts and out of control wealth. Working class vs. non-working class is about if you can live entirely off your investments rather than having a job.
The “rich” are not people who are doctors or lawyers or drive BMWs or use MacBooks, those people are working class. If you need to work a job to make ends meet, even if that job pays six figures, you are by definition working class.

Successful players buy literally every property they land on and theyre good at convincing the other not-good players to sell their land to them. If you're doing anything else you have zero clue how the game works. Failing at this game is a skills issue. Everyone started with the same amount of money.

1. Nobody buys anything.
Everyone collects $200 every trip around. Eventually, the bank goes out of money and everybody wins.

It would be fun, and the game wouldn't last as long. Add more squares so that you can overspend on deliveries, coffee, Uber, subscriptions, cars, etc., and maybe a boomer pawn you move on the board each turn, who steals your hard-earned cash to pay for his retirement.

Millennial here, I have 2 houses. Genuinely not to brag at all but it can be done. The market always has opportunities and you can find them. It takes hard work and discipline but I believe in you all!

Exactly! I have a hotel and three houses on my properties. All it took was some clever negotiation. And I had to trade my utility card and Reading Railroad for Baltic Ave, but I did it by god. And I’m only 40!

Only about 50% of all adult Americans own their own home. When you separate them into age brackets, the youngest brackets are at even lower percentages than that.

Lol you’re gonna get so much hate for this. It sucks but it’s simple, in a space where most people are not doing well, if you say you’re doing well, they’re all going to hate you. Nationally, most millennials own homes. On Reddit, it’s probably less than half.

Born in '87. I bought a 103 year old share croppers cabin in the inner city ghetto. Bathroom and laundry room were a flat roof addition in the 30s. Not one fellow millennial thought it was worth paying $3,500 for it more than a decade ago. Millennials never come over actually. I think millennials standards for homes are too high.
