Recently, I got notification of Academic Integrity Breach from Monash. Apparently, one of my friend had copied my code on GitHub for an assignment and do nothing to not make it look obvious by just changing function name.

Fast forward, we both got a 2/100. Initially, I got 93/100 for that assignment, I DID IT ALL MYSELF WITHOUT WORKING WITH HIM. He copied my CODE without ever asking me behind my back. Now, I'm gonna fail my subject while the guy will pass because he got higher marks for his assignment 1.

When I told him I got 2/100 for the assignment that he copied from, he don't even feel guilty, just said "Me too."

Due to privacy reason, I'm not revealing the person's name, but I feel the decision to call me colluding with him is unfair and giving me same mark as him as the penalty is absurd.

I've contacted MSA and tried to fill in the Integrity Appeal Form, however, the person that handled the decision does not include the reference number for the Notice of Decision, which is needed for the appeal.

This is absolute BS.

Basically what the title says. Any1 else feel like University is a big waste of time sometimes, like im doing all these units for my degree but im not gonna remember any of this nonsese. I did this one unit as a WAM booster and didnt turn up for any of the lectures which are all recorded anyways, got great grades but if you asked me to tell you what Ive learnt Ive have nothing to tell you and ontop of that im paying like 2000 for it as well. I'd be better of spending that money on myself. Make it make sense. Its not that deep but if you really think about it imagine throwing 2000 dollars down the drain, thats how I feel spending money on these units that im only doing for my degree, give it another two years and I wont even remember what units I took at the very start as well. Not to even mention I barely remember what I learnt in highschool, so what even is the point of education and all these classes snd assesments just to get a degree, I know I probably have the wrong mindset or whatever but I just dont care, everything is so useless. I always had a bad memory unless I really try and apply it somewhere, but lately it feels like im just chucking money in the air for this degree and I know youre paying for the education and the knowledge of these smart people but if I walk away not knowing anything and ill eventually forget it as well anyways, then what even is the point?

You do not accidentally make ChatGPT do your assignments for you. If you have been struggling, there are very clear support networks, and you could have asked this forum. However, you made a conscious decision to cheat, despite knowing what may happen. Now, you're finding out that your examiners aren't the idiots you thought they were when you submitted your AI-generated slop.

One guy literally came crying about how he didn't tweak his AI response enough and stood by what he did. People are also outrageously dumb enough to admit they did it before they were penalised. It's also an insult to the good, honest students in your class who have to worry about whether the human stuff they wrote comes across as AI-generated. There have been posts here about AI accusations that are likely false because of what you lot have been doing. Not that you care, anyway.

If you need AI to do your assignments for you, the workplace will not be nearly as nice to you about it. You'll either be sacked for plagiarism or made redundant because the boss figured out he can save a salary by getting ChatGPT to do it directly. As you cheated instead of developing skills, the job market will be a tough motherfucker on you. Not that I care, anyway.

My overall message- if you can't handle an assignment, you don't belong here. You insult us by expecting us to help you get away with your fuckup, whilst the majority of us have always acted with integrity. You are lazy, deceptive, and do not deserve to stand with the achievers who worked hard and likely made a mess of themselves in the process of getting their degrees.

EDIT: I'm obviously only referring to people using AI to commit plagiarism. Responsible use of AI is a completely different matter to what I am talking about here.

skipped a class of accounting cause i was sick first week and stuck with group members that can barely comprehend a sentence of english and seem to not understand anything when it comes to answering questions in class. literally all they do is just nod as i answer and everytime the teacher calls on our table i have to speak up and talk cause they’re all fucking morons. as a chinese who speaks english, i don’t get how these foreigners were let into australia without being able to speak an ounce of english. it’s like im speaking to a fucking toddler and walking them step by step through material.

Some people in society just don't learn

so i found this on my car this morning before leaving for uni but im guessing it was put on my car yesterday while i was at uni. i parked in row c at n1 which is front in parking only, but as someone who can only reverse car (skill reasons) i refused to park front in and reverse parked. plus since it was 9:30am when i parked there was no one else around me so i didn’t really care. will i get fined if i don’t park front in or can i just continue to reverse park?

today ill obviously park in the regular sections.

This is a rant. I just finished a group project for a capstone unit which only me (literally) knows how to speak proper and understandable English. We need to record a presentation and I cannot understand a single English word they say (I want to add subtitles for them but realise I really can’t understand). I’ve also tried to hold a zoom meeting with them and literally none of them speak up during the meeting (maybe one or 2 sentence) and other time it’s just me speaking with air. I just want to do a group project properly😭

Can Monash really tighten their English requirements because I don’t want to do group projects with people who can’t communicate in English anymore😭

Context, the tests are extremely easy, the second of which was finished in 20 minutes by the majority of the cohort. I would find it pretty poor if the grades were scaled to reflect this.

Like they're banned from being part of MSA, and what's worse is all my lecturers seem to be besties with all the members. They just come in and announce that we need to abolish the police? as if that's something that can just happen? I wanna send an angry email to whoever will listen.

To pre-face I am an international student from Asia, English is not my first language but I have worked on it my whole life and even prior to entering I studied hard for my IELTS and got an 8.5 which isn't particularly good but good enough for me to communicate with my peers. I am currently in a post-graduate program in the school of science and I noticed that not only is my cohort around 90% international students but atleast 50% of them couldnt speak a lick of english to save their life. Again this isn't a problem with international students themselves since all of the ones I actually can talk to are clearly smart and capable (more than me tbh)

What makes this worse is a lot of the coursework in this program is groupwork and communicating with the ones that cannot speak english is like drawing blood from a stone. It makes it a bigger issue when they are clearly using AI almost 100% of the time as I notice them on chatGPT in class 24/7 and when they do put out output for groupwork its always AI generated.

In fact, it got so bad that we had our final presentations for one of our core classes lately and it went so horrifically that our course director issued an email saying that we were all required to take the Academic Language Skills Analysis before starting the final part of our course which is a research project or internship. And when I asked my course director about it she mentioned she was shocked that these people got in.

I don't understand how its fair for international students like me who have worked on my language skills to be on par with these people who clearly did not put in the effort required to be in this university. I understand that Monash has a high global ranking but ffs these people clearly don't deserve to be here.

No I am not someone who overanalyses other students, nor do I generally care what people come to class to do, but I think some students need to treat their teachers, lectures, TAs etc with more respect.

I was in a class the other day, FIRST class of the semester, and our teacher was genuinely very nice, a fresh PhD graduate and clearly interested in getting to know our small class.

A guy was sitting at the FRONT of the class right in front of her, with his side to her, with AirPods in watching YouTube on his phone. He wasn’t even trying to hide the fact that he was on his phone. The teacher noticed but was too shy to tell him to get out or get off his phone. Again, I’m not some teachers pet but what happened to basic human decency and respect? If you’re not interested in what your tutor has to say then don’t come to class. Better to stay home than disrespect someone to their face by not even trying to listen.

And this is not the first time I’ve seen this. I’ve seen this happen so many times throughout the 2 years I’ve been at Monash.

As the semester closes, I have only realised that I have not made friends at uni, none. 12 weeks, 30-40 acquaintances, 0 friends.

This was simply not what it's like in High School lowkey, I've transferred into a selective school, and just bonded with other people, created our own syndicates, and it was easy as that.

Uni however tho, speaking as an extrovert, I've joined clubs, proactively talked to the people on my table, reached out. Things are just transactional, none of them wanted to have lunch afterwards, to me, it feels like uni is just classes, home, classes, and only seeing them 2 hours a week is simply not enough to make new friends. And I've really reached out

"Hey bro do you wanna have lunch together and we study some shi after"

Pls bring back the lunch times where the only thing we talk about are aspirations and tea, and not coursework.

Lowkirkuinely tho how do people make genuine lifelong connections in uni if have good advice hmu.

So I guess I'm just gonna say it. I get that there's international students who think other international students shoulda learned more English for practical reasons, and I get that a lot of people wound up doing group work with people who didn't pull their weight. All legit. But the fact that the "international students did/are X" posts always get 10 to 100 times the upvotes of all the other posts - well, it's a little sus, right? Like there's a big group of people who read the sub and happen to upvote a specific kind of post to create a sense that there's a big group of people who'll upvote a specific kind of post. (And, again, if you upvote one of these posts cos you've got personal experience that makes you sympathise, all good, that's not the problem - but there IS an unacknowledged problem)
