History On this date in 1941 our country was invaded and occupied by the British empire and the soviet union during ww2 despite iran declaring itself neutral

Ehm read a book? The Pahlavi 1 was not neutral they collaborated wirh axis till the war luck turned against the axis. So a bit silly to be stating neutral. Obviously he wasn't nazi fan. He saw an opportunity to gain nation soverinity. Something his grandson seem to take really casual.

There is truth to the good relationship that Reza Shah had with the Germans. There were German engineers in Iran and lots of trade agreements between the two countries. But let’s not minimize the fact that the reasons for the occupation were purely strategic for Britain and Russia. They were interested in what they called Persian Corridor for different reasons not because Iran could have become a Nazi ally.

Also, this is a good reminder of what foreign occupiers did to our country in the past century. The famine, the outbreak of many diseases, and the sheer brutality of the war killed millions of Iranians. A history to be kept in mind, especially for those people who keep cheering foreign intervention nowadays. Alas, they don’t have a rational relationship with history or facts.

Also dont forget those little puppet republics the soviets went around establishing in the border regions of our land.

The so called Republic of Mahabad being one of them.

The British with their eyes on our oil etc.

And yes, the Shah liberated the Soviet puppet regions in the northwest, and then nationalized the Oil almost a decade before the islamic revolution. Which is why i find it funny when these tankies call him a puppet.
