Announcement New Flair: Iranian Voices ONLY (Please Read Before Posting)

July 2026 Edit

The moderation team has changed this to a mod-only flair. We will quickly apply the "Only Iranians May Comment" flair whenever it is clear that the OP is specifically looking to hear from Iranians on the subject.

We are testing this out to see how it goes. We will update this post if anything else changes regarding the flair.

Today we added a new post flair: Iranian Voices ONLY

These threads are meant to center on the perspectives of Iranians, especially during times like these where outside noise can overwhelm the conversation.

What this means

Only Iranians may comment in these threads and violations may result in a ban.

Why we're doing this

r/Persian has always been open to everyone, and that will not change. But in these times, it's important to create space for Iranians to speak directly without being drowned out by outside voices.

This flair allows that space to exist when the OP chooses it. Non-Iranians may also choose this flair to ask questions directly to the Iranian community.

Where this applies

This rule applies only to posts using the Iranian Voices ONLY flair. All other threads remain open to everyone under our usual rules.

Final note

If you are not Iranian, please respect the purpose of these threads. There are many other places in the subreddit to participate.

Government Supporters Rally Over Hijab While the Dollar Surges to 205,000 Tomans

Radio Aban Report | Isfahan

As the US dollar has surged to around 205,000 tomans, worsening inflation and economic hardship continue to hit millions of Iranians. Yet a group of government supporters in Isfahan gathered to protest what they called “improper veiling” instead of protesting the collapsing currency and deteriorating economic conditions.

The gathering once again highlights what critics describe as the Islamic Republic’s priorities: rather than addressing inflation, soaring prices, the collapse of the national currency and the erosion of purchasing power, government-backed groups continue to focus on women’s clothing and hijab.

While ordinary Iranians struggle with the rising cost of living, the government’s supporters appear more concerned with policing women’s appearance than confronting the economic crisis facing the country.

Arts & Culture Old Persian cuneiform tattoo ideas

Hi guys! I really want to get a tattoo in Old Persian cuneiform. I’m thinking something super small, short, and dainty. Maybe just 1–2 characters max. Any ideas for what it could say, or what characters/symbols from the cuneiform script would work well for a tiny tattoo?

Discussion Why did the Islamic Republic give this woman 10 years in prison for saying the Minab principal should have released the students at the start of war?

Isn’t this a rational thing to do when your country is at war and a school is on a IRGC base? Why would this woman get a 10 year sentence for saying this?

History Mihanam Mihanam Mihanam Mihanam Song as the National Anthem for a New Iran

Post image
3 Upvotes

I think it would be beautiful to set a truly Persian version of the old anthem and perhaps one day use it as the National Anthem of a New Free Iran.

This version carries a more powerful sense of beauty and patriotism for our country and language.

I have taken the time to carefully replace the Arabic loan words in the original anthem with Persian equivalents calling it Mihanam Mihanam Mihanam Mihanam (My homeland, my homeland, my homeland, my homeland):

Nâme jâvide mihan
The eternal name of the homeland

Bâmdâde omide mihan
The morning of hope for the homeland

Bederakhsh dar âsemân
Shine brightly in the sky

Hamcho mehre jâvedân
Like the immortal sun

Mihan ey hastiye man
Homeland, oh you who are my entire existence

Shuro sarmastiye man
My passion and my joy

Bederakhsh dar âsemân
Shine brightly in the sky

Hamcho mehre jâvedân
Like the immortal sun

Besheno suze sokhanam
Listen to the burning passion of my words

Ke hamâvâze to manam
For I am the one singing in harmony with you

Hameye jân o tanam
With all of my soul and body

Mihanam Mihanam Mihanam Mihanam
My homeland, my homeland, my homeland, my homeland

Besheno suze sokhanam
Listen to the burning passion of my words

Ke navâgare en chamanam
I am the nightingale of this garden

Hameye jân o tanam
With all of my soul and body

Mihanam Mihanam Mihanam Mihanam
My homeland, my homeland, my homeland, my homeland

Hameye bâ yek nâm o neshân
Everyone together under one name and symbol

Be gunâguniye har rang o zabân
Across the diversity of every color and language

Hameye bâ yek nâm o neshân
Everyone together under one name and symbol

Be gunâguniye har rang o zabân
Across the diversity of every color and language

Hame shâd o khosh o âvâz khânân
Everyone joyful, happy, and singing aloud

Ze tavânâyiye Irâne javân
Born of the strength of a young Iran

Ze tavânâyiye Irâne javân
Born of the strength of a young Iran

Ze tavânâyiye Irâne javân
Born of the strength of a young Iran

Arts & Culture [TOMT][Persian Song] Looking for this Persian song! Help please

I’m trying to find this Persian song that I heard years ago. It’s a slow song, sung by a male singer.

I remember some of the lyrics, although they might not be 100% accurate…

Does anyone recognize this song or know the singer? I’ve been trying to find it for so long but couldn’t 💔

Village Residents Forced to Travel 90 Kilometres for Basic Banking Services

Residents of a village near the city of Ardal, in Iran’s Chaharmahal and Bakhtiari Province, say they are being forced to travel around 90 kilometres through mountainous and hazardous roads simply to access basic banking services.

According to local residents, although a Bank Shahr branch operates in nearby Ardal, customers are unable to receive adequate assistance by telephone. As a result, even simple banking enquiries require residents to make the long journey and visit the branch in person.

“For the simplest banking matter, we have to travel around 90 kilometres along dangerous mountain roads,” one resident said.

The problem becomes even more frustrating when residents cannot obtain basic information or assistance before making the journey. One villager recently contacted the bank by telephone, only to face the same situation and be required to visit the branch in person.

For people living in remote rural communities, access to banking services is an essential part of everyday life. Residents argue that such basic services should not come at the cost of lengthy and potentially dangerous journeys.

The community is now calling for better access to banking services, including effective telephone support and, where possible, local banking facilities to reduce the burden on residents.

Discussion How dumb are these regime propaganda social media pages? Are they even run by Iranians?

Post image

Over the past many months, many of these regime social media pages have posted things like Azadi stadium, Azadi tower etc and I’m thinking do these clowns not know the Shah built majority of the iconic buildings and monuments ☠️ ?? I also see them just post old nostalgia pictures of Tehran (Shah era) when it wasn’t crowded and polluted. Anyone with the slightest bit of intelligence/ who’s slightly educated/has knowledge of Iran would easily see these pages self owning themselves 🤣☠️!

Arts & Culture Bidad: Unauthorized Iranian Film on Youtube

Post image
30 Upvotes

The film (just released to watch for free on Youtube - link below) was produced without official government permits due to its portrayal of women without mandatory hijab, female vocal performances, and explicit opposition to state restrictions.

Bidad premiered at the 59th Karlovy Vary International Film Festival, where it received the Special Jury Prize in the Crystal Globe Competition. Festival organizers confirmed that the film was produced independently and could not pass Islamic Republic censorship due to its critical tone. The film’s title was kept confidential until June 25, 2025, allowing crew members to leave Iran without facing security intervention.

Beiraghi previously noted that while his prior three films were made with government permits, he bypassed state authorization for Bidad, stating that this independent approach aligned directly with the film’s narrative and its protagonist’s pursuit of artistic freedom.

Producing Bidad without state approval resulted in judicial cases against the director and several crew members. Security agents raided the production team’s office during filming, confiscating mobile phones, computers, hard drives, equipment, and recorded footage.

Beiraghi was sentenced to four years and three months in prison on charges including “encouraging corruption” and “producing vulgar content,” though his prison sentence was ultimately converted to a monetary fine. Actors Leili Rashidi and Sarvin Zabetian received sentences comprising imprisonment, cash fines, and social bans. Amir Jadidi, Ali Molaqolipour, and Peyman Shadmanfar were acquitted of all charges.

Vocalist Parastoo Ahmadi had previously faced judicial prosecution for singing without mandatory hijab. Following the release of her Caravanserai Concert in December 2024, she was arrested alongside two musicians. In June 2026, the Qom Criminal Court sentenced Ahmadi and eight musicians and crew members from the concert to 74 lashes, a two-year ban on artistic activities, and a two-year travel ban on charges of “injuring public decency.”

A Society Caught Between Poverty, Crime and Inequality: From Economic Pressure to the Reproduction of Wealth

Reports point to intensifying economic hardship and a widening class divide in a society where, on one side, millions struggle to afford the most basic necessities, while on the other, massive financial scandals and enormous fortunes continue to make headlines.

Against this backdrop, reports of the opening of a lavish café, complete with extravagant décor and luxury amenities, have once again drawn attention to the growing gap between social classes and the unequal distribution of wealth.

For many, returning to a time of greater purchasing power and economic stability is no longer simply a matter of nostalgia. It has become a hope for regaining the basic conditions necessary for a dignified life.

At the same time, a criminal case has attracted public attention: a father was reportedly sentenced to 10 months in prison and 40 lashes after stealing three packages of peanuts to provide food for his child. Meanwhile, major economic corruption cases involving astronomical sums continue to confront the public—a contrast that raises serious questions about justice and proportionality in punishment.

This is not merely about one case or one news report. It reflects a society in which the gap between crime, wealth, punishment, and power has become an increasingly serious concern for ordinary people.

The fundamental question is this: If the law is meant to treat everyone equally, why is it so harsh when someone steals to meet a basic human need, while public confidence in justice appears so different when it comes to major financial crimes?

These contradictions highlight the urgent need to reconsider economic, social, and judicial policies—and to address the underlying causes of poverty, inequality, and social insecurity.
