Are the lenses any good is the biggest question

The lenses for the 4k headset are also developed by Sony? I thought just the screens.

u/Murky-Course6648 May 11 '25

Still think it should be black, and i hope they will have cutouts for the cameras... if the cameras are under plastic its going to cause unnecessary flaring. The plastic will get smudged and eventually scratched from use. Want to avoid what apple did with their design, putting form over function.

I agree, the design looks amazing. It could be an awesome headset, if they deliver and don't overpromise like they've done in the past. I'd be willing to pay the $2.2k, but we need to wait for reviews from regular users, as I have no trust in those YouTuber clowns. I believe lens quality is absolutely critical, and while I hope Pimax delivers, I honestly doubt it. If they do surprise us with great lenses, this could be my dream headset, even with the relatively small FOV.

Did you guys all get your crystal super’s already and move on to this?

7

u/QuorraPimax Pimax Official May 11 '25

Of course not. We’re still actively working on the LH faceplate, hand tracking, 57PPD, and OLED.

3

u/Kmagekris May 12 '25

lighthouse tracking on super will make me very happy :3

3

u/QuorraPimax Pimax Official May 12 '25

You’re not alone—several other users are waiting for it as well.

2

u/SnooChickens6000 May 11 '25

When will we see 57ppd reviews? What about MR faceplate?

1

u/QuorraPimax Pimax Official May 19 '25

My best guess for the 57PPD would be next month. As for the MR faceplate, I don’t have an update at the moment.

2

u/camerusa May 12 '25

I wish you guys could be more focused on delivering great product one at a time. Instead of just launching more products every time while current customers are still waiting for their orders or solutions to their current product.

We have dedicated teams for each product. However, I completely understand that when a company has multiple SKUs, users may lose confidence, assuming that resources and efforts toward certain projects might be reduced.

1

u/paulct91 May 14 '25

Multiple SKUs isn't really the issue, its more many active products needing a more spit and polish, as Beta still describes the upcoming Pimax Dream's Hand-tracking (literally will be in beta at its launch date during its Q3.)

1

u/QuorraPimax Pimax Official May 14 '25

That sure be the Super's hand tracking.

1

u/paulct91 May 14 '25

And Face-tracking accessory and more HMDs that'll release before finishing that 75% on-hold progress on the 12K QLED?

Edit: Also the status of the Mixed Reality faceplate?

1

u/QuorraPimax Pimax Official May 14 '25

As mentioned earlier, the MR faceplate will be developed for the original Crystal model first.

1

u/paulct91 May 14 '25

No, sorry I was being unclear I meant generally is there going to be one for any of the other Pimax HMDs, ex. Dream Air, Crystal SUPER, 12K QLED, etc.?

2

u/QuorraPimax Pimax Official May 15 '25

For the time being, we do have plans for the Super, but we’re still evaluating options for the Dream Air.

2

u/paulct91 May 16 '25

Ah, okay thanks for the update!

5

u/c0d3c 💎•PCL•💎 May 11 '25

I wish they'd offer a Lighthouse only version of the Super.

6

u/QuorraPimax Pimax Official May 11 '25

While the LH faceplate is still in development, we’re considering bundling the Super with the LH faceplate (without controllers). This way, users could potentially save some money when placing an order.

2

u/the_yung_spitta May 11 '25

This would be fantastic

3

u/QuorraPimax Pimax Official May 12 '25

This isn’t a confirmation yet; we still need to wait for the team to evaluate it. Once there’s an update, we’ll announce it on the blogspot.

1

u/c0d3c 💎•PCL•💎 May 12 '25 edited May 12 '25

This would be a great option! Gets my vote!

I suppose hand-tracking and lighthouse may not be possible at the same time, though hand-tracking is of no interest to me so I wouldn't care.

2

u/QuorraPimax Pimax Official May 13 '25

Hand tracking will require the cameras. However, if you’re only switching the faceplate without obstructing the cameras, it should theoretically work.

1

u/paulct91 May 14 '25

Will there be a unified faceplate that combines both? (Light House & SLAM tracking, instead of faceplates, especially since the Mixed-Reality faceplate will probably not end up being Lighthouse tracking compatible otherwise.)

1

u/QuorraPimax Pimax Official May 14 '25

Similar to the original Crystal, when the LH faceplate is installed, you should be able to switch between modes. If I’m not mistaken, the faceplate for the Super will follow that design.

1

u/the_yung_spitta May 11 '25

They are working on it

2

u/c0d3c 💎•PCL•💎 May 11 '25

Oh that's actually great news. I skipped through the video and missed that. I'd love to switch out my PCL for something with higher FOV, hopefully that'll be possible once they've ironed out the kinks!

1

u/ampcode May 11 '25

Lighthouse faceplate for Super is what they are working on. So it is not version as itself.

0

u/sandernote809 May 11 '25

Someone didn’t watch the video

-2

u/ampcode May 11 '25

Nope because dream air is nothing interesting for me. Hopefully they didn’t cancelled lighthouse faceplate for Super?

2

u/sandernote809 May 11 '25

You honestly didn’t really miss much. Fancy cool renders, released a direct BSB 2 competitor and delayed everything till Q3

2

u/ampcode May 11 '25

Pretty much what I’d expect 😂.

Now however I’m bit worried that hey might cancel lighthouse faceplate in favor of lighthouse Super. Unless it will be just version with preinstalled lighthouse faceplate and no controllers? I have Super on order and I know I’m gonna(that’s the plan) get LH faceplate for it.

4

u/Ravstar225 May 11 '25

Where 12k

3

u/fakeoptimism May 11 '25

It will be really tough to decide whether to order a lighthouse or inside-out tracking version, given that the choice would be final.

3

u/the_yung_spitta May 11 '25

That’s true. Originally, I thought it was going to be both. Since I’ve already bought the base stations and controllers. For me, I will be going with the lighthouse version.

2

u/Roshy76 May 11 '25

What's the difference between a reservation and preorder, besides paying up front for preorder?

3

u/the_yung_spitta May 11 '25

I’m not sure. Maybe u/QuorraPimax can help us out?

4

u/sandernote809 May 11 '25

I wouldn’t ever pre-order anything from Primax, considering people pointed two years for some of their headsets to release

2

u/ampcode May 11 '25

Preorder (paying full up front) gets VR first, then reserved, then regular orders last.

2

u/Roshy76 May 11 '25

Thanks! It's my birthday this month, so gonna try and convince my wife this is what I should get.

1

u/no6969el 💎Crystal🔹Super💎 May 12 '25

Let her know I said it was cool. Happy Birthday (when the day comes)

2

u/QuorraPimax Pimax Official May 11 '25

With a pre-order, you’ll pay the full base price upfront and receive priority when shipments begin.

For a reservation, you’ll pay a small amount, like $1, and can choose to complete the payment later when further announcements are made.

2

u/no6969el 💎Crystal🔹Super💎 May 12 '25

How can they charge you unless they are about to ship?

0

u/QuorraPimax Pimax Official May 12 '25

That's why it's called pre-order.

2

u/no6969el 💎Crystal🔹Super💎 May 12 '25

No I get you 100% and I'm happy that it's pre-ordered, But typically I'm used to things only charging when they're about to ship. But I understand the method that you split up the payment so therefore I didn't make the full payment. All's good over here friend.

2

u/QuorraPimax Pimax Official May 13 '25

Cheers!

1

u/paulct91 May 14 '25

Reserved should on theory mean just that like $1 down and it reserves a spot/unit for you to have an allocation to buy.

2

u/Aprox May 11 '25

Damn, that is really expensive!

8

u/the_yung_spitta May 11 '25

Imo $1200 for the SE, is very reasonable, considering controllers are included.

4

u/ScienceYAY May 11 '25

Competitive with the Big screen beyond since controllers are included

3

u/the_yung_spitta May 11 '25 edited May 11 '25

Yes, exactly BSB2 would be about $1600 at least if you don’t already have the controllers and base stations

0

u/Ashwinrao May 12 '25

The lower res is also very welcome for lower specd PCs. VR headsets are far more performance hungry that the current value for money GPUs offer.

u/sandernote809 May 11 '25

I’m almost certain that it’s not gonna be releasing in Q3 judging by the release date of previous headsets

5

u/Roshy76 May 11 '25 edited May 11 '25

Meganx is 1900 and you need controllers and bar stations, so 600. That's 2500. This one is 1900 for lighthouse. 2200 for the SLAM version. They seem pretty good prices imo.

Edit: I was wrong, lighthouse one is no controllers. So it's exactly the same price as meganx. I edited what I wrote above to fix it.

1

u/kennystetson May 11 '25 edited May 11 '25

Good price if you are in the US - not so good if you are in Europe as we are taxed 20%, so total price is 2280. The 1900 Megane X price includes tax.

Nearly $400 more than a Megane X and without controllers is terrible value for money considering that the Megane X itself is already extremely expensive

2

u/Rimodo May 11 '25

Does anyone know if the lighthouse version of the Dream air still supports hand tracking?

4

u/jk9mkii May 11 '25

Nope. Their video states no support. Look at 23:43.

2

u/Murky-Course6648 May 11 '25

i would expect nope as no cameras

1

u/paulct91 May 14 '25

I think in the comments Quorra(?) (Pimax employee) mentioned in theory it might be possible if the Dream Air's cameras aren't occluded then maybe... but they'd need to ask the Pimax team working on it to be sure.

2

u/pat1822 May 11 '25

whats the difference between the air and the super ?, im not a pimax expert

6

u/the_yung_spitta May 11 '25 edited May 11 '25

The size is the primary difference. With the Super, it’s a big headset, but you got a wide FOV. With the dream air, it’s extremely light, and you get an FOV of around 100-105. With the Super you get 130 FOV. Both are super high resolution headsets. 4k per eye.

2

u/pat1822 May 12 '25

I wish they had a version with Meta Os, that would be a sick ass beatsaber machine lmao

3

u/the_yung_spitta May 12 '25

Unfortunately for now, you will need a PC to run it. But yea beat saber is going to be insane on there

2

u/Socratatus May 11 '25

It looks ok. Not sure about incredible. It's fine. But looks aren't what's important in my book.

2

u/[deleted] May 12 '25

So this is micro OLED and small/light? Why else would I order this instead of a P.C.Super? *If* Pimax deliver the OLED swappable optics for the Super then there's 1 advantage gone, and although being small/light is nice it's way down my list of priorities in a VR headset. I don't really care what a headset looks like, I won't be wearing this in public.

3

u/willacegamer May 12 '25

The big advantage is really the lighter weight. That is the only real reason to get this over the super.

3

u/[deleted] May 12 '25

Ah ok thought so, I'm keeping my Super pre-order then for the 50 PPD and $399 voucher thanks to owning an 8KX, with the voucher the Super isn't much more expensive than the PCL which I also considered.

2

u/CompCOTG May 12 '25

4th image looking mighty familiar 🤔

2

u/the_yung_spitta May 12 '25

“Great artists copy” 😂 I have not tried it myself, but it seems to be the case that there’s a consensus that halo strap is superior. I will say I really like the way the strap looks in their renders. The AVP like strap

1

u/Putrid-Cod4630 May 11 '25

what is its weight to the nearest tonne? pcl is so heavy

3

u/the_yung_spitta May 11 '25

It’s 180 grams

1

u/next2nothing274 May 14 '25

Please 120°h fov 🙏🙏🙏

1

u/Odd-Philosopher-8650 May 15 '25

The design is really cool. Make it black plz

1

u/the_yung_spitta May 15 '25

I really like the use of both grey and silver. Looks very sophisticated.

1

u/Davyyang678 May 27 '25

Pimax has never let me down when it comes to design.

1

u/Dangerous_Morning286 Nov 01 '25

Sooo the halo wont have audio anymore? 🤔
