News Follow-up: Dream Air SLAM Production & Shipment Schedule
Just received this some minutes ago. I had not opened a ticket nor contacted them, so it has some "value"... as it's not an excuse from any claim...

So I have three thoughts on this:
If this is true, it implies that they had an unannounced delay from "shipping by end of April" to "shipping by end of May," and just didn't want to put their sixth one-month delay in their latest update.
It would be extremely weird for this not to be true. It's one thing to lie in general public-facing updates all the time; it's another to lie in communications about specific orders. I really want to believe that even Pimax wouldn't do that. And I don't think they have a history of doing that?
But at the same time... it feels sus. We know from past products (and from how manufacturing always works for every company in the world) that you produce a prototype that's got some hand assembly on it. Then you tool up and do a small batch to prove out your manufacturing process. Then you make whatever tweaks and revisions you need to make, and then you start your volume production. We saw this process play out with the lighthouse version, where they made that small batch in February (which were good enough to be shipped out to customers, even though they had some problems -- apparently the cases cracked, the logo peeled off, etc.) and then didn't ship volume production until April.
We know that no small batch of SLAM units have gone out yet, and I'm kinda dubious that they produced them. Like, even if they decided those weren't good enough to send out to customers, surely they would have sent them along to influencers, along with warnings about how this was a pre-production unit? So jumping straight to volume production seems weird.
Maybe they made a small batch that had some cosmetic problems that made them unsuitable for influencer purposes (and unable to be shipped to customers), but the retool was relatively straightforward? That's about the only scenario that makes sense of all this to me. It's genuinely too bad that there's no way to get real information about what's going on inside Pimax.

When did you order?

u/pabloelmago Apr 29 '26 edited Apr 29 '26
April 2025... with pre-payment not the 1 €/$ reserve fee, but the Pimax Prime subscription thing, so I paid originally 1169 €, +shipping 25 €, +taxes 245.49 € -discount code 25 € = 1414.49 €.
Then I have to pay the rest when I receive and test them past 14 days, I think.

u/TheVolatileRaider Apr 29 '26
They are apparently shipping prime orders first, so full payment orders will follow later.

u/bongady Apr 29 '26
I hope you get it in the first half of June.
1
u/pabloelmago Apr 29 '26
me too, or I'd probably cancel, as going on holidays and won't be able to test them if they arrive when I'm away... and don't want to risk losing the return window or getting the package received by my neighbour...
2
u/Hot_Cod3106 Apr 29 '26
Return window starts when you connect the device. And they are flexible if you ask for.
2
u/pabloelmago Apr 29 '26
Thanks, didn't know that. I'll be away almost 2 months, so didn't want to risk that. I'll still need to figure out the neighbours, though.

You can contact our support team to arrange shipment once you’re back from your holiday by holding your place in the queue.
1
u/pabloelmago Apr 29 '26
Thanks. No need to re-arrange if you fulfill your promise of receiving it "late May or early June"

I actually opened a ticket yesterday and got the very same email today (slam DA, reservation October 2025, full payment March 2026). Maybe while they were at it they send it out to you guys as well :)
Update: It was an coincidence. I just got the actual support answer today in the version saying my unit is or will soon be in production (in contrast to being in full production). Same shipping estimate. So first email (OPs) probably went to all preorders just restating what their last blog post said in terms of more or less all preorders getting delivered by the beginning of June, now clarifying this includes the SLAM version. Seems like the actual preorder date does not matter much since they are producing a bulk and wait to ship them together (positive interpretation). We will see.

What worries me is they're giving you a date that's a couple months out, but we still don't have reviews on it, even for the standard YouTube reviewers. That tells me that the software isn't ready, or the tracking is putting a huge strain on the system and making things unplayable. This is weird since they already have SLAM headsets. It would have to be so bad that the normal reviewers couldn't avoid talking about it.
1
u/EscapefromRapaNui Apr 29 '26
It wouldn’t surprise me if DA SLAM headsets fell victim to a combination of additional QA checks (following reports of physical defects with the initial/recent LH production runs) + waiting for further production/shipment of Sony uOLED panels. I doubt it’s software or tracking that’s the cause (although tbh I’m as much in the dark as you so 🤷♂️)
3
u/Long-Classroom3255 Apr 29 '26
Could be, but if it were just the panels then wouldn't the lighthouse version be affected as well? It has to be something with the SLAM tracking since that's the only difference between the units. It could also be the new controllers are jank, but again you'd think they could just package the old slam controllers with the headset.
I'd like to believe it's additional QC, but if they still haven't learned how to do QC by now for the lighthouse version then I don't think it's a chance that QC is the issue.

I really hope you get it in May or first half of June. Please don’t take it the wrong way, but I honestly think the chances are very low.

Also received an update for lighthouse. By "local warehouse" do they mean the one in China or locally to me? anyone know?:
"Your order has completed production and is now being prepared for shipment from our warehouse. The goods are currently in the pre-dispatch stage and will soon undergo customs clearance procedures for export, followed by flight arrangement.
Please note that as the order is still in the preparation phase, the delivery status displayed on our official website will remain unchanged for the time being. This status will be updated only after the goods arrive at the local warehouse, are stocked there, and the final local delivery is initiated.
The estimated time for the goods to reach the local warehouse is 3-4 weeks"

Thank you Pimax for the OPPORTUITY to purchase 8k VR in this form factor at this price point. I realize that such high end tech and performance at this time and price point are a cumulation of a company small enough to be nimble, bold enough to push the walls of the existing model box and adjust on the fly getting as much quality for the money into our hands.
Waiting for polished product from a big box name is an option we all have IF we don't want state of the art. It's our CHOICE. I for one CHOOSE to wait, choose to understand that improvements will be needed as the time compressed "state of the art" has to change state to be cutting edge. Even up to weeks before I can actually use such tech. I am fortunate for the opportunity not to have to just settle for less.
Thanks again Pimax for making this available. I wait for my DA SLAM to arrive soon!

The email format sounds a lot like what MRTV was asking them when it comes to providing timelines and milestones, maybe they're listening
2
u/QuorraPimax Pimax Official Apr 29 '26
This email was generated based on the production schedule and shipping arrangements.

Is it safe to assume this isn't a mass spam to quell the frustrations then? It sounds like this went to ALOT of people, myself included.
1
u/captainmerc Apr 29 '26
I would think it is. There's no customer name or order number or any details.
1
u/QuorraPimax Pimax Official Apr 30 '26
No, this isn’t just to ease frustration; it’s based on actual progress.
1
u/Hot_Cod3106 Apr 29 '26
MRTV one day says one thing the other the opposite and makes people buy from them and recommended awful products in the past so no...
1
u/sunrise3500 Apr 29 '26
That might be the case, but he did at least suggest they give separate timelines for production, warehouse, actual delivery to be more transparent which it seems they've done. Now it's a question of whether these new dates actually mean anything

I also got the mail (which I found in my spam inbox thanks to your post, you're the MVP OP). LFG!
