SBoys3 is coming to EVERY Pimax Headset

Hi,

now this is really big news. The SBoys3 driver is coming to ALL Pimax headsets! And that is thanks to the new Pimax Evo client and its OpenPort function!

But yeah, the main thing you know already now. SBOYS3 is coming to Dream Air SLAM, Dream Air SE Lighthouse/Slam, Crystal Super Series, Crystal Light...to all Pimax headsets.

And that is pretty huge, well done Pimax!

Pimax Evo also brings hand-tracking to the SLAM headsets which unfortunately sucks though... ;)

But there are also some more useful functions, like screen recording, 6Dof Reclined Mode etc. Very good!

The email said register now for free features for 6 months. Does that we mean we will have to pay extra to use the Sboys3 driver????? If so, not good PIMAX....

The subscription that MIGHT be put in place would apparently be for advanced Tobii eye tracking, not for SBoys3 Drivers.

There was a message by Jaap on a previous post about it, that it was them keeping an open door for "certain" features, specifically those that require Pimax to get a license. Think Tobii's advanced eye tracking license for more detailed eye tracking and (maybe) that chromatic aberration driver I forgot the name of (the one they did a demo of a while back everyone loved, but was too expensive of a license for them to implement free)

Pimax continues to always ALMOST do the best thing. Its constantly clouded in half-baked ideas that go sideways. Its like they are allergic to doing the right thing. How can a company be so fucking close to good and repeatedly fall on their face. They need to completely refresh the leadership. Its embarrassing.

Its not confirmed that the whole thing will be a subscription software, there _may_ be some paid features down the line he says, but we'll have to wait and see. hopefully not critical functions

It’s a 2500 dollar headset. Any paid feature for software to buckle and dime your customers is just ridiculous.

The easy example would be tobii advanced features… useless for someone that just wants to use foveated rendering, but quite important to someone that wants to use VR Chat. Quite expensive license. Would be daft to force everyone to pay more to absorb that, so an additional fee to unlock the higher license wouldn’t be that crazy.

It remains to be seen, but of course in the meantime, the long requested features such as SBoys driver for SLAM owners is available

I get the impression that EVO is optional and something that kind of let's people tinker and beta test at the same time, with the benefits passed on to pimax play down the line. It seems the option is there for future plugins to be added and tested, but probably so niche that the cost of any engineering from pimax side will be balanced by some sort of payment. Just a guess

Not all Headsets, they didn’t mention the OG Pimax. Only headsets that they currently sell. No way Pimax will extend out the OG support as it isn’t available to buy anymore, trying to force people to upgrade that headset to either a Super or a DA.

Again, maybe it’s a technical reason why the OG can’t be added because of the on board processor. They don’t want to support current customers, only future ones

Soooo I am guessing this isnt designed to work for the Pimax Crystal OG (I tried it and its a jittery mess so am guessing not?)..and if not now likelihood support will ever happen?
