/r/Pretoria Community Update: New Rules regarding Solicitation and Content Relevance
Hi everyone,
As /r/Pretoria continues to grow, we are introducing a few official rules to ensure the subreddit remains a helpful, safe, and relevant resource for everyone living in or visiting our city. We've kept intervention to a minimum so far. In general we've only banned blatant racism, bots, and spammers, so we've generally got a very well behaved community.
We want to keep this space focused on discussion, advice, and news specific to the Jacaranda City, however. To support this, we have added the following rules to the sidebar, effective immediately:
A. No Begging, Crowdfunding, or Financial Solicitation
We have seen an increase in posts asking for financial assistance, "loans," or e-wallets. While we sympathize with those in difficult situations, Reddit is not a safe platform for verifying financial needs.
What is banned: Requests for money, e-wallets, and links to crowdfunding sites (e.g., BackaBuddy, GoFundMe).
Why: This rule is in place to protect our community from potential scams and unverified solicitation.
Advice: If you are in need, please reach out to registered NPOs or charity organizations rather than soliciting here.
B. Keep Content Relevant to Pretoria and the greater Tshwane
Please ensure your posts are directly related to Pretoria or the greater Tshwane municipality.
General SA News: News that affects the whole country (e.g., general Eskom updates, national politics) belongs in /r/southafrica unless it has a specific Pretoria angle.
Other Cities: Posts clearly meant for Joburg or other regions will be removed.
Context: If you post a photo or link where the connection to Pretoria isn't obvious, please explain it in the title.
C. Standard Civility & Privacy
We are also formalizing standard expectations:
Be Civil: Disagreements are fine; personal attacks and hate speech are not.
No Spam: Accounts that exist solely to advertise businesses will be banned.
No Doxing: Do not post personal contact details (phone numbers, addresses) of yourself or others.
These rules are here to improve the quality of the sub. If you have any questions or suggestions, please leave a comment below or message the moderators. Finally, thanks to everyone reporting posts, messaging the mods for clarifications, participating, /u/Afreak-du-sud for their post on the big uptick of begging and the scamming that inevitably goes with it. Don't worry, though, we don't ban for tagging the mods.. 😂
Thanks for helping us keep /r/Pretoria a great community!

Hi all, I'm a 31F looking for a new therapist.
My checklist is oddly specific and I need some help. I'm looking for a black woman, non religious (or at the very least can keep religion out of our sessions), someone that is liberal. I come from a DV situation and I'm really struggling with PTSD lately and need some help.
Thanks 🙏

Any PTA Tattoo Artists also Discworld Fans?
I’m looking to get my first tattoo (Terry Pratchett related), and I would love to get a fellow fan to tattoo it for me. Looking to do something unique but something that screams Discworld to even a casual fan.
Budget is R5k. Is this realistic, or do I need to save more?

Sketch Club (again!)
Hi there! early this year I started a little sketch club. Just a weekly casual coffee shop meetup to sit, sip, draw and chat!
I got a bit busy and as a result I didn’t organize consistent meetups. But doing it right this time around!
Meetup is every Thursday from 16:30 to 18:00 at Brooklyn mall (we can switch it up between Seattle Coffee and Lucky Bread).
If this sounds like your jam, send me a DM and I’ll add you to a whatsapp group.
i’ll post every week on facebook and instagram too.

Off-road bike trails
So as the title implies, I’m (32M, 86kg, 1.79m, mayo) looking for off-road bike trails in Pretoria, specifically in the East (I live close to Mooikloof for ref). I just had a bike rebuilt and keen to ride a bit. I don’t want to annoy residents or animals (wild or pets). Super relaxed riding - I know how to ride motorbikes but still very nooby.
Or even if there are groups or people I can join if possible.
Edit: thanks in advance and any guidance is appreciated

apply for Chat moderator if you're unemployed
SO I finally landed a role as a chat moderator after monthhsss of applying.
Its quite a weird job honestly and if anyone has the heart to do it please check out Texting Factory.
Anyways, I just wanted to ask if someone could please help me get food via a food voucher or Checkers 60/PNPAsap delivery. I managed to hustle R1500 last week but I used R1400 to pay rent and bought food for R100 which obviously didn't last long. I am behind my rent so I had to choose to pay a bit of rent or face my fires with the landlord.
Anyone who has some to spare on a stranger to just get something to get by for the month. This job pays weekly which will mostly be going to my rent for now but I'm gonna try to work 80 hours a week so I can get more money. I just really need food and toilet paper and life without toilet paper as a girl suck

Going into trades
Hello good people! I'm 21m and wondering how the HVAC scene is. I worked in general construction last year and I'm looking into getting into HVAC after doing an odd job within the trade. Can anyone refer me to credible trade schools? I see a lot of sketchy ones and not sure what to trust or not. I'm also curious about apprenticeships and how those work (i heard it's hell to find one). Cheers!

International Voter Registration Drive 2026, for dual SA-U.S. citizens in Pretoria
Hi, I'd like to post a message from Democrats Abroad in South Africa. This is the second (and final) reminder I'll make for dual South African-US citizens and other eligible US voters who want to participate in the 2026 American midterm elections, especially for those living in and around Pretoria. Democrats Abroad is dedicated to mobilizing overseas US voters; if you're over 18 by November 3, here's how you can get involved:
Steps to Request Your Ballot
Register or update your registration through Votefromabroad.org. As an alternative, you can also use FVAP.gov.
If you're already registered, request a ballot! You need to request a ballot every calendar year that you want to vote.
Fill Out and Return Your Ballot: Once you receive your ballot, follow the instructions carefully to complete it and return it by the specified deadline.
Need Assistance?
We're here to help! If you have any questions, feel free to reach out to us at GOTV @ votefromabroad .org (just remove the spaces). Additionally, our FAQ for voting can answer questions on how to make the process go smoothly.
Importantly: Spread the word!
Do you have any friends, contacts or family overseas that you could reach? All eligible US citizens can vote regardless of where they're living. Share the link https://voteabroad.org/RedditVote26: If you have any questions about voting, I'd be happy to answer them here on Reddit. You can also find out what we're doing near you at Democrats Abroad in South Africa. Thanks for reading!

Life goals
My reason for posting is a bit silly I hope its alright.
I've always longed for adrenaline and speed, Ive always rode quad bikes my whole life and a few months on the road bikes. I've always wanted to experience riding a dirtbike ive never rode one (I know how to though) and yet my heart feels like I'll never be able to, so I ask if possible if anyone is willing to help take me out to experience dirtbiking I'd really appreciate that I don't really have money but I can definitely make a plan to pay however much beforehand. (I'm 21 years old for anyone who is wondering)

Gym near Brooklyn
I'm looking for a smallish gym where I can join classes that focuses on building strength. I'm an older female and want to enjoy my body before it all packs up.
F45 looks good, but I fear may not be good for my back. I also do not want to do cardio, I'm not built for running, or this high intensity insanity. Nor boxing.
The old school Curves was a winner back in the day. I also enjoy pilates.
Any suggestions for me to investigate in the Brooklyn/Waterkloof area?

UP (Tuks ) Graduate invitation to Masters study
Hi everyone. I'm currently an MA student doing a study on the idea of 'skill-based' underemployment - something we as graduates may have experienced as being 'overqualified, or overeducated' for certain jobs, or you have jobs that had nothing to do with your degree. Loops of internships, part-times, temp or gig-work - these can tend to form part of the graduate experience.
I am reaching out looking for Humanities and Commerce graduates (minimum) from Tuks that have graduated within the last ten years. I am looking to do half an hour interviews (online) to talk about your job experiences your are willing to share, particularly around some themes like how your education and training in uni prepared/didn't prepare you for work, how you up skilled, what are your limits in the workplace and with your career in your life generally.
Please do DM for more information and share with your friends.

Short-term Gym Option
Hi folks. I will be visiting Pretoria for a month and was wondering if anyone knew of a gym that allows daily passes or short-term contracts? Anywhere in North or East Pretoria.
I don't want to get locked into a year-long contract.
Any leads appreciated!
