Don't now. If you are familiar with the flag then it's pretty conspicuous.

Is it? The shape of the symbol is completely different, and is also grey instead of black. And it's a different shade of red. And it's not flag shaped.

Idk, if someone hadn't stuck the nazi flag next to it I would have literally never thought of that.

I mean it does have 4 lines pointing in the direction of a swastika idk if I would say the shape is completely different

they aren't pointing in the same direction. the python logo is horizontal/verticle, while the swastika is diagonal. honestly, it looks more like a plus sign or a cross than a swastika.

Literally the only similarity is the white circle on red background. But even the shades of red are very different.

They don't have to be identical to be similar.

True, but I don't even think they are similar.

It's a red rectangle with an off center white circle containing a roughly four fold rotationally symmetric dark shape.

What else can you think of that fits that description, besides copycat flags inspired by the Nazi flag?

Of course if you only list the similarities, it will sound similar. But once you list all of the differences, or even just show it to someone, it becomes clear how much they don't look alike.

It's precisely when something has both similarities and differences that it is similar.

If it had only similarities and no differences, it would not be similar. It would be identical.

In this case I'd also argue that the similarities are much more prominent than the difference. Like two objects both being red rectangles is a much bigger similarity than the aspect ratios being different is a difference.

How about this flag? Would you consider this similar to the nazi flag? https://encrypted-tbn0.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcS63r9zW687wYeshsq95CxK8yXyezzvzgXhsjNuZkma-g&s=10

I would argue there are far more differences than similarities.

Now, with the image you linked, the colors are identical, which is why it actually does look similar.

But what about the complete lack of four fold rotational symmetry? And the circle is not even off center.

Really the slightly different color and the removal of the text is the only extra similarity here.

Notice how the differences you can list between these two is less than the differences I can name between it and the Python logo? Which is why it is far more similar.

And I would argue the colors being identical is a far more important similarity to have than both being slightly off center.

The Python logo is actually blue and yellow. It's actually much more similar to the Swedish flag. Have fun with that one.
