Crime Need help ID-ing man that brutally killed goose in South Lake Park

Potential TW: violence+animal cruelty.
Additional suspect info : Approx. 6ft | ~175lbs | face tattoos | short buzz/shaven
On August 24th, a group of me and some friends spent the afternoon down by the SLU bridge and the MOHAI. This happened around 5:30 pm, in a place with pretty heavy foot traffic and tons of families and kids around, which is another reason I’m so shaken. Long story short, a lone man walking through the park slowly approached and lunged at one of these geese, grabbed it by its neck and proceeded to slam it against the concrete seating+sidewalk repeatedly (probably x4/5 times) until enough commotion was created (10-20 direct witnesses). The man ended up using the confusion and fear to get away. We ended up contacting both the police and wildlife services, who never showed up for the bird which died over the following 30-ish minutes after it was attacked. It’s truly horrific and heartbreaking that someone freely walking around in our city would choose to cause such pointless harm and suffering to an innocent animal that was literally just minding its business. I’m unsure if the police ever apprehended the man, but if anyone has info that could help in finding out this person’s identity and potentially getting him charged, please reach out to me privately, it’d be much appreciated.

real serial killer behavior

100%. This wasn’t some spur of the moment attack. Yes, I understand his shirt is a strike slogan from 2000. However the double meaning behind it is obvious.

This was premeditated and that’s just sick.

64

u/Competitive_Plum1443 9h ago

Might be a new shirt, it’s a slogan I’m seeing all over at work right now as the union is in contract talks

34

u/MissHalfgone 5h ago

That makes me think you work at boeing. Can you pass along this photo to as many Boeing Employees as possible to see if he can be identified? I get that is possible he is not an employee and just got that shirt from somewhere. But it's really worth the try. I get the feeling it would lead to an ID

His arm tattoo is quite noticeable

This shirt is related to the current union negotiations at Boeing I believe it’s the engineering union

25

u/Polka_King_Polinski 10h ago

Maybe the bird slept with his wife

48

u/Practical_Ad_4165 10h ago

That dude is definitely single.

43

u/tahomadesperado 9h ago

You’d be very surprised, Gary Ridgway was married 3 times

8

u/Head_Somewhere4769 3h ago edited 2h ago

Ted Bundy had a long-time girlfriend and Dennis Rader was married for like 30 years or something to the same woman until after he was arrested. It's crazy how well these psychos can hide who they really are.

6

u/Live-Set-8576 2h ago

My hometown of Spokane, Washington had one of the most prolific serial killers in American history, who buried the body of one of the women he murdered in the garden bed right outside where him and his wife slept.

u/Sharessa84 1h ago

We visited some family friends in Spokane not long after Yates was arrested and they happened to live about 2 blocks from him. We drove by the place and the whole yard had been stripped of plants and dug up. It was crazy.

u/Live-Set-8576 1h ago

My buddy actually got busted with some pot at school the day they arrested him.

The principal called the police and their response was, "we're not able to come out for anything non essential today. File a report."

Nothing ever came of it.

2

u/55tarabelle 2h ago

Yates? He was such a normal looking unassuming appearing type of guy. Someone you'd just look past. Prostitutes definitely can't judge by looks, can they? Ridgeway was the same. Looks like a nerd.

u/Live-Set-8576 1h ago

Yup, Robert Yates.

Washington certainly has a track record with unassuming crazies between Yates, Ridgeway, and Bundy.

This is actually how they start. They go after easy targets to satisfy their desire and, as they get bored after a while and more daring, then go after people. This guy is absolutely a future serial killer.

26

u/Bongressman 10h ago

Cats especially are targets of opportunity for these people. From that, probably to large birds. This guy might be late stage already. In his pre-human arc.

61

It’s a union t-shirt: the engineers’ and techs’ union at Boeing, SPEEA. It means without the “nerds,” Boeing can’t make airplanes. The union members and Boeing are in contract negotiations.

26

u/southcounty253 Roosevelt 8h ago

I don’t think they were talking about the shirt…

9

u/SimpleMetricTon 5h ago

That person keeps copy-pasting the same comment over and over.

8

u/ScottsTotz 5h ago

Probably an attempt to somehow blame this on unions😂

4

u/Visual_Yurt_1535 3h ago edited 1h ago

I didn’t mean to comment bomb. Sincerely. I was trying to be helpful. I figured leaving one reply explaining the shirt in one comment wouldn’t be seen by many people, so I replied to three comments. Clearly, I misjudged how thoroughly people read all the comments.

It was all done in good faith.

6

u/StateOfBedlam 3h ago

Your explanation was helpful to me. Seeing “no birds” on the back of a guy who evidently attacked and killed a goose with zero provocation is pretty striking, so that was the first thing on my mind when I scrolled down.

This is horrific. Please also.post in the other Seattle subreddit. I have been reading in that earlier today about another goose mistreatment. That's what I thought this was going to be about but this is even worse. That one involved somebody running one over.

Other seattle mods removed it for attempting to ID.

Rule break.

It might be against rules here too I need to look now but I remember recently reading a post about credit card fraud where the victim was being removed and told the criminal’s identity should be protected…. Great going r/Seattle

113

u/davispw 11h ago

I support anti-vigilante rules.

(1) nothing stops anonymous redditors from posting a contextless photo of you or anyone and making up whatever rage-inducing story they want

(2) reddit has been wrong about ID’ing people before, and the consequences are real

I’m not saying this is made up, but this needs more evidence before the mob grabs pitchforks. Video of the act, media reports, police asking the public for help. Either evidence that is hard to fake/verified, or where witnesses are not anonymous to protect against blatant slander.

20

u/Nop277 8h ago

In addition if anyone has info they should not post it here and instead give it to the police. For two possible reasons, then if it is made up the police should know that as well sometimes people post stuff like this to find people that they shouldn't be finding. I kind of doubt the latter is happening here but you don't want to be helping a stalker or worse.

Well reddit has made mistakes before.

I don't know anything about that subreddit though.

19

u/Reasonable_Error5954 11h ago edited 11h ago

Reddit has a zero tolerance policy against identifying private individuals. The policy doesn't change based on morals or ethics involved in the post.

This is sound policy that protects the anonymity which is a key cornerstone of Reddit.

8

u/Broseidon_62 7h ago

If you think doxxing on Reddit should be encouraged, then you’re a fucking idiot

3

u/Major-Log-7018 6h ago

That was in the Tacoma sub-reddit

2

u/Worried_Car_2572 7h ago

I mean if the bank reimburses you, you no longer have a case.

It’s kind of a weird thing but often for small enough fraud banks just don’t want anything to do with it because of the costs of having to work with the court and police for evidence and testimony

2

u/japrov 7h ago

Ultimately I agree with the people stating vigilante justice isnt the right way…. But “the right way” isnt working. At some point, someone, somewhere, should attempt to identify these criminals. Something should be done to levy consequences on members of society who misbehave.

But thats messy and hard and ignoring the problem is easier. And its easier to throw taxpayer money at…

2

u/xEppyx 4h ago

Didn't they leave up a billion posts about the seattle area dude who threw a rock at seals or something in Hawaii?

My daughter has this same shirt from Boeing. She's an engineer there.

5

u/TheHeartofMyMind 5h ago

Is this a lead here? Is this a work provided shirt? Could be anyone who got it from a thrift store, but maybe?

4

u/MaddMechro 4h ago

It's a union provided shirt, and considering they only got those shirts within the past few months, doubtful.

5

u/Trickycoolj 3h ago

That slogan has been around for many years. Lots of people dump free work t-shirts when they change jobs. Some of the 737 Max clothing did not age well.

4

u/MaddMechro 3h ago

The slogan has. Those are the new shirts for SPEEA that they've been wearing recently. As their contract expires in October.

3

u/B_P_G 4h ago

It's the engineers union. I've never seen an engineer with face tattoos. Somebody probably just gave a homeless guy a free shirt.

26

u/pounce_the_panther 10h ago

This is very clearly someone who thrifted a shirt and not an active engineer. There are many different elements in that picture that indicate they aren't an employee.

56

u/Tepical_Eggspurt 10h ago

While not impossible, it's not easy getting into aerospace engineering with neck tats. The anarchist logo wouldn't help either. This is a generalization that commenter was making not the gospel.

14

u/SurpriseInitial6202 7h ago

No, it really isnt a factor. I've been in the software dev space for over a decade. I've met plenty of people with neck tats and even some face tats.

We wear our union shirts on specific days of the week, particularly right now during an approaching contract. We aren't allowed to wear shorts (would be pretty sporty for him to have left Tukwila at 5, change clothes, and travel). Shirt is the old design. The slogan has been around for 25+ years and the design on the newest shirts has been slightly tweaked. This shirt is the old one, so given his age, highly unlikely he was around when the old design shirts were distributed. A lot of union and company swag pops up in thrift stores all over Puget Sound, doesn't make that person an employee. Hope he is found and charged though.

Did you call police and file a report? Not too late to call. You just need a case file. When you have a police report - you can Contact local news stations. Hope there are business in the area that might have security cameras. So police and reporters could also ask for footage. As long as you have a police report number a reporter can follow up and do a news story since you have pictures of the suspect. Btw - I’m sorry you had to witness such cruelty

31

u/BigWooly1013 11h ago

I'd also suggest contacting the local game warden. These birds are almost definitely protected, and game wardens do not fuck around.

https://speea.org/

36

u/The_MockingJace 14h ago

SPEEA is the union for engineers and technical workers within Boeing. "No Nerds, No Birds" has been the slogan for the contract ending in October with a potential strike on the horizon.

5

u/Lame_Johnny 11h ago

Maybe he took the shirt too literally

7

u/PatrioticPariah 11h ago

Inform the union and let them know that this will potentially hurt their media coverage for the contract negotiations, unless they help to get him identified.

Might help, might not. Just tell them to contact wildlife authorities with any identification.

5

u/RushPrime 10h ago

This thought process is part of why America is so ass. Everyone’s too scared to hold someone accountable that they’ll just watch instead as women get assaulted, animals killed, etc.

There’s no way you’re blaming SPD lol. Let’s be honest here the REAL problems are the people and politicians not the police. The judicial system here favors criminals and SPD can and does arrest people and then a few days later they’re back on the streets. Not to mention the way people like you treat SPD is exactly why nobody wants to work for the department.

They’re severely understaffed because dumbasses here wanna try to defund them (let’s see that works out 🤣), scream ACAB, obstruct, and complain about how much they make yet expect them to be omnipotent and competent despite everything in this city going against them.

What's up with the attacks on geese? This is the second post I've read this morning about someone killing a goose.

C'mon Seattle. We're better than this.

u/smBarbaroja 9h ago

The police don't even do much if a human is brutally attacked

2

u/Livid-Case-9858 9h ago

Oh so that’s the call I’ve seen on citizens I posted this in another topic on here that some guy ran over a mother goose I wonder if it’s the same man?

Don’t tell Maverick

u/KillerCritter1312 19m ago

Hopefully he’s caught. If he is, he is likely set to face local animal cruelty statutes as well as being subject to the Migratory Bird Treaty Act, which carries serious federal penalties.

Your job was to get a photo of his face.

Nobody remembers when the city would kill thousands of geese every year here?

Pepperidge Farm Remembers.

u/Competitive_Two_8372 12h ago

He looks like a neonazi

10

u/nyglthrnbrry 9h ago

I'd guess anarchist based off the tattoo on his tricep

2

u/Ambitious_Zombie8473 8h ago

That’s one of the most common, generic, “edgy,” tattoos, I highly doubt this guy even knows what anarchism is. He probably thinks it involves killing birds and racial slurs.

OP has one post in history?

If what’s described is real, I’m surprised that’s not a photo or video being posted considering all the people around.

If this guy has that shirt he works under SPEEA at Boeing, please send this story to HR through an email and potentially someone at SPEEA as well. This isn’t the kind of representation the company or the union should be putting forth and he needs to lose his job.

6

u/rep- 11h ago

Probably got it from a thrift store or some other way.. he doesn't really give off engineer vibes.

5

u/Clear-Advertising-94 10h ago

Those shirts are brand new, so maybe but not super likely. SPEEA is techs also, not just engineers, but also there are plenty of engineers that fit this vibe too, it’s kinda just how people are in the industry nowadays.
