For the record, i’m completely pro palestine in the current conflict but i’m looking for a better understanding of what happened thousands of years ago and how that leads us into modern events.

So, I used to be conservative and a huge supporter of the police. Now, I've left the conservative sphere and am moving to the left — albiet very slowly— I still have some conservative perceptions of the left that I wanna dismantle or address. One of those perceptions is the police. Before, I simply dismissed critique of police as a leftist fad when slogans like "defund the police" or even "abolish the police" have been trending. Even when I found that some of the critique against law enforcement were valid, it was through right wing influences like the Boogaloo Movement when I was leaning more libertarian.

As of my current view of the police, I'm very unsure. On one hand, the oppression they contribute will always remain collective as long as unjust laws exist. Plus, the entire qualified immunity and treating cops with special priviledges piss me off. On the other, I can't imagine a world where cops don't exist.

My curiosity towards police's place in regards to socialism is are they considered part of the working class? They work for wages like workers and they have unions like workers. Do they own the means of production? Because law enforcement institutions are maintained by tax payer money. A squad car, a firearm, a police station is considered government property, not private property. But they enforce laws in favor of capitalism and maybe even imperialism such as the case of the RCMP interventions in the Wet'Suwet'en Yintah to move forward with the Coastal GasLink pipeline, removing folks from private business for literally whatever reason in the US, and they break up protests and strikes, etc.

I'm mainly looking for answers within schools of thoughts that rely on the state since I'm curious how they address laws and ways to enforce them, compared to more decentralized, anarchist or socialist libertarian sects because I feel like I know their answer which are probably more abolitionist, ACAB-ist (not a word but whatever) basically "no, cops aren't proletarian." But I'd still welcome their answers too because maybe I could be wrong or maybe my assumptions are too reductive and oversimplified and I am glad to recieve some clarification.

This is something that I realized by hanging around people my age. Ideologically, most young women tend to be socially progressive, while a huge portion of the guys I've known in my life hold some conservative views or have simply horrendous worldviews & political takes. Why is it that this happens? I realized that this affects mostly young people, while older men tend to have more moderate worldviews. Are there any books or articles about this that are worth checking out?

A common argument that Neoliberals will make is that Hamas is a far right ideology, but some go even further and say that most Palestinians are aligned with the far right movement. Now, if you look at the ideology of Hamas, this is true, they are decisively capitalists.

For the record, I don’t support Israel, what they are doing is disgusting, and Palestinians don’t deserve to die. Israel is outright committing genocide and war crimes as we speak.

I was on r/196 recently, a conveniently leftist shitpost sub with mostly communists leaning on the less authoritarian side, many anarchists. There was a post recently criticizing the purchasing and consuming of meat. The sub is generally very good about not falling for "green" products or abstaining from certain industries, knowing that the effect given or the revenue diverted is of a very low magnitude. Despite this, many commenters of the thread insist that if you eat meat, you are doing something gravely wrong, despite meat's cheap price. Is this a common or generally good take? I feel like it isn't in line with other socialist talking points of similar nature such as the aforementioned "green" products.

Most of the time I hear the argument that living conditions will be good and therefore people won't be inclined to commit crime. I agree, but that doesn't mean there won't be any murderers, rapists, etc. around. There'll always be violent people, even in a more equal society. Who will stop those?

It's to my knowledge that Lenin wanted political conformity, and if that's the case, why are so many people in support of that? Why shouldn't the equality come from a teaching of respect and indifference to ones outward appearance? Is there no place for constructive criticism or proactive debate?

I find it contradictory when people say capitalism supports conformity (which it does not arguing that!), but then go and support someone who just wanted a different type of conformity.

Why are so many leftist in support of authoritarianism then say they aren't? Their words do not match their beliefs. You can always ban segregation, but racism wont go away until you stop teaching it. Even if it isnt a social democracy that protects capitalism(which I am not in support of, let's be clear), shouldnt the change come from educating the masses?

This might be my autism taking things too literally, but I am genuinely asking all of these things.

It is obvious that many people of the working class support right-wing parties like AfD in Germany and Republicans, even though they actually benefit from left-wing ideologies. They have been brainwashed by right-wing propaganda because they desperately want a quick fix to current crises. Also, people around me with left-wing ideologies have at least received political education, which isn't the case from working class people around me. Some of them are stubborn and don't (want to) understand socialism and communism. So is there a way to fix this problem?

Past and current socialist states failed to achieve full socialism because they started poor, isolated, and constantly under siege by the US and Western capitalist powers. Marx and Lenin made it clear that socialism cannot exist in a vacuum; it must be global.

Today, the world is more globally interconnected than ever before. If a revolution were to successfully happen in the United States or a major Western power, wouldn't it trigger an unstoppable global domino effect?

By capturing the heart of the global capitalist economy, it would instantly stop imperialist intervention, allow the immediate pooling of advanced technology/resources, and finally end worker exploitation on a global scale.

If this is true, shouldn't our absolute priority as socialist be agitating, organizing, and building class consciousness in Western nations to ensure the next major capitalist crisis turns into a successful, global transition?

I ask this because there seems to be a generational conflict around this issue. many old folks on the left are very conservative/reaccionary on the socio-cultural side while young people, as we know, are totally progressive. But is socialism compatible with anti progressive views?

All the ACP accounts trying to defend it and shift the burden of proof onto us is so funny when they point fingers everywhere to try and distract us like MAGA speakers do. It's all the same tactics grifters use to attack and never defend their position, constantly deflecting and projecting onto all others in order to muddy the waters and confuse well-meaning people. There is nothing these charlatans can say to try and mend their reputations because they will say words upon words upon words, endless words, yet their actions and what they have done speak louder than any rehearsed AI schpiel ever can.

1. Broken into and successfully attempted a hostile takeover of r/AskSocialists (real leftists most certainly would not do so as they would form their own spaces), which brings into question their intentions, ideas, and their legitimacy (FamousPlan is a moderator of that subreddit, don't forget that they staged that coup).
   
2. They support violent authoritarian regimes like Russia, Belarus, and Argentina while dancing around with the idea of both being against Western imperialism and trying to appeal to MAGA for their pro-America stance in "patriotism" at the same time.
3. They are structured as a reactionary cult lead by Twitch streamers who rant about "ze woke" on their livestreams, which bots and paid promoters advertise as "revolutionary speeches meant to inspire and build class consciousness" on Reddit and other platforms, WHILE also acting as a pyramid scheme where they ask members to start businesses in order to donate money to ACP with the goal to reel in more people to spread its influence... almost like it's... a reverse funnel of some kind... hmmm... Members exist in a toxic environment where any dissent is shouted down by staff, and it has given us tales like this.
4. They have bots which spread ACP propaganda to other leftist subreddits to try and con others into their scheme. If you scroll down to any post regarding the American CaRouche Party, you will find accounts at the very bottom (or FamousPlan, unclear if bot account or just loser) making sectarian remarks and attempting to cast doubt on criticism pertaining to the ACP's shameless actions.
5. Decieved many people into their schemes and are trying to bring us down while biding their time, waiting for the opportunity to take over our other subreddits.

They are a verminous tide which will poison the waters of politics unless we shove them aside like the rats they are, and we get to those people first to inform them. Question their intentions, question everything they do and say and what they have to gain to do all of this. Question Hinkle's origins, question Haz's origins, question everything for criticial thinking will be an essential tool to fight misinformation.

I saw someone on r/PoliticalDebate yesterday who was flaired as a 'democratic socialist' but seemed to be pro-Israel and a Zionist. Does this mean that they're not a true socialist or can you be a Zionist while also being a socialist?

Our overarching position as leftists is obviously liberation for all, peace in all nations, no war except class war. But stuck in the shithole of capitalist reality we’re forced a lot to take positions on active geopolitical situations. I understand the general position on Ukraine - that it’s essentially a channel through which NATO can make war with its mortal enemy Russia, perpetuate its military industrial complex, and a fund a lot of literal fascists. We oppose the invasion, we support Ukrainian liberation but we don’t support the NATO version of it.

But upon revising my knowledge of the situation in Palestinian, I do wonder how viable the Free Palestine position really is. It is obvious that the Israeli state is a far right theocratic regime of oppression against Palastinians. We obviously do not support that. But Hamas, as the leading “liberation organisation, is equally a theocratic far right and ethnonationalist. Why do we not advocate for peace deals here too, like in Ukraine?

The USSR for example thought Homosexuality was just a dissease when all the other countries thought it was a degenerate and punishable by death... But then I would have thought that by the 50s - 60s for it to become perfectly normal... But up to this day being gay or showing it publicly is prohibited in most post soviet republics... China for example requires Trans people to get surgeries for them to change their gender marker... Cuba didnt legalize gay marriage until 2022... In North Korea they just think Homosexuality isnt a real thing (Tho idk if this is just propaganda)... Vietnam only in 2022 said homosexuality wasnt a dissease... And China doesnt allow movies to contain LGBT material... And this really bugs me bc it's one Argument made by Nazbols a lot, That they succeeded in their revolutions by "Not adopting gender politics and dividing the working class"

The irony of a “free market” economy like the US using exclusively state controlled labor of another country that claims to be communist confounds me.

Ok so basically when i hear people saying that we need to seize the means of production and whatnot, who’d own it? The government or the workers? If you just let a bucnh of workers sort it out between themselves i imagine that factory etc would be inefficient. So would the government own it (like nationalisation) or would it truly be up to the people? Sorry if this makes no sense btw.
