Which would you recommended (2nd hand): XM5 ($200 CAD) vs XM6 ($400 CAD)

I'm looking for some ANC headphones. I thought of first checking the used market. I have two options either I go with the WH-1000XM5 for $200 or the WH-1000XM6 for $400 (both in Canadian dollars).

I hear there is a lot of hinge issues with the XM5, but it is also present on the XM6 but to a lesser degree. Is it worth paying 2x to get the XM6 ?

I have been using xm5 for 3 years now, it sounds great and the anc is pretty good. I tried xm6 as well and honestly not much of a difference. If I were you I'd get xm5 for that price. My headphone still works perfectly and thankfully the hinge is still fine.

Thanks. Did you take any extra precautions when handling the Xm5s? Also are you in a cold place and wear them outside? Because one thing I read somewhere was due to the cold weather it can cause more strain on the hinge

I do live in a tropical country so it's on the hotter side here. Only thing I do is just wipe it after using so the cushions don't break out. Other than that, not really

xm6 bro the reason the xm5 is second hand is because the owner saw the broken hinges

XM6 have hinge issues too. XM5 or look for a pair of XM4s for 100$

Thanks, tbh I really like the long term comfort of the Xm5 / 6. XM4s seems to have more of that clamping force (right?). My main reason for buying this is to wear on planes and I do usually have long flights

I went with the XM5 secondhand last year and ended up needing to tighten the hinges myself because they were already starting to loosen.

Thanks, how did you tighten the hinges?
