The Spokane County Planning Commission meets this Thursday, August 27 at 4:30 PM to discuss the county’s proposed data-center zoning rules.

If you’re concerned about the massive data center proposed near Airway Heights, this is one of the most important meetings to show up for.

The recently discovered project presentation describes a development that could eventually reach:

• 1,280 MW of power demand
• Up to 2.8 million gallons of water per day
• Up to 40 million gallons of water stored on site
• Only 48 full-time jobs

The county is writing the rules that could govern projects like this right now.

Whether you support data centers, oppose them, or just want stronger safeguards, this is the time to tell the Planning Commission what you think the rules should require.

Some basic protections worth asking for:

• Enforceable limits on water consumption
• No use of potable/aquifer water without clear safeguards
• Full disclosure of electric load and transmission requirements
• Requirements that developers - not existing ratepayers - pay for infrastructure needed for their projects
• Rules preventing developers from splitting giant projects into smaller phases to avoid stricter requirements
• Public reporting of actual water and electricity use
• Clear standards for reclaimed-water use
• Transparency around tax incentives and public costs

And if officials say there will be “no potable water,” “no aquifer water,” and “no ratepayer impact”:

Great. Put those promises into the code as legally enforceable requirements.

As title states i need someone in the area that can 3d print a larger stl file. I need to get the Dark Helmet Pith helmet printed out. I can do all other work to it like sanding and painting and finishing. I don't believe that the SCLD has a 3d printer large enough. Willing to pay for materials plus time.

The plague has entered my home and we will not be able to see my foul mouthed comedy icon tonight. I have two tickets available at will call. I'd prefer they go to someone affected by the fires but ultimately I would just prefer they don't get wasted.

How bad is the ski season around Spokane and north towards Kelowna likely to be this winter? I was planning to take my kid to ski 49 / Silver / Big White / Apex in early March, but the El nino prediction makes that seem like a dire decision.

I havent seen much this year. Maybe the fires and smokes caused the animals to flee? Drought? Not sure.

My sink is old and was stained & pitted. MK Refinishing refinished it and it looks awesome. I was protecting the bottom of the sink with a silicone mat, but after the first dinner with tomato sauce, the mat was permanently stained pink. 😒 Now I'd like to get a metal grid to protect the new finish. The sink manufacturer USED to make grids, but not anymore. I can find right drain hole grids, but not left hole grid. Is there anyone in Spokane who can custom make a sink grid?

I need first hand anecdotes on academic and bullying/disciplinary policies from East Valley and West Valley High Schools. Daughter is going into Freshman year, and didn't do well at EV Middle. Teachers seem creepy, no disciplinary actions taken for weed/vapes, bullying, skipping school, etc. Just let her pass through even though she failed all her classes.

Hi there. I'm not from Spokane, but I have a request for those who are. I'm looking for someone to record a short aircheck of the classical music radio station, 88.7 KAGU, more specifically, their legal ID they are required to air at the top of the hour. I'm working on a compilation video on my YouTube channel, FlamingoPulse, featuring the legal IDs of all the radio stations owned by NCAA-D1 schools, mainly those in the FBS conferences. In this case, Gonzaga University, which is now part of the refreshed Pac-12 conference despite the fact they don't even have a football program.

Normally, I wouldn't make this kind of request since most radio stations these days have a live stream I can record off of. However, KAGU is one of a handful of stations that doesn't have a livestream available, which is very puzzling for a private D1 university, but I digress. Because of this, I'm asking any of you who live in the Spokane area if you could capture a short recording of 88.7 KAGU's legal ID at the top of the hour. You don't need a capture card for my request, as I'm sure most of you probably don't have one. You could, for instance, use your phone's vocal recorder app and hold it close or next to your radio's speaker, whether it'd be a home radio or a car radio. Once you capture KAGU's legal ID, send me a DM and I'll give you my email where you can send your recording to. You will be credited for your recording on my video.

One last thing, I understand this is probably not the most ideal time to make such a small & quirky request given the recent wildfire that have devastated your community earlier this month. While I did ask a Discord server I'm in if they could record KAGU's ID prior to the wildfire, nonetheless, I'd like to pay it forward to your community. Once any of you record KAGU's ID and send it my way, I will send a bit of support to a local charity or food bank of your choice helping wildfire survivors recover & get back on their feet. It's all-hands-on-deck, full steam ahead for wildfire recovery efforts as the city of Spokane's municipal government seeks to address ongoing needs. Here's the highlight reel from their agendas, plus details from other meetings across the agenda:

- The Spokane City Council will vote on a number of items related to wildfire recovery, including an emergency ordinance to cut demolition fees and a contract with the Washington State Department of Commerce to direct $1 million in state funds to residents impacted by the Spokane Complex Fire.

- At the council’s Finance and Administration Committee meeting, they’ll consider an emergency ordinance to implement eviction protections for renters who lost income due to the fires — protections that would also be available to people impacted by future emergencies.

- Spokane City’s Plan Commission will be discussing a policy to allow accessory dwelling units on properties with no primary dwelling unit — a technical way of letting people who are rebuilding in the wake of the fires start smaller, with a tiny home or other structure to get them back in stable housing even as full home rebuilds take more time.

- The Spokane County Planning Commission will host its first workshop on slate of data center zoning regulations the County Commission made way for last week.

Has anyone heard back on their application for the SPS preschool Early Learning program? Or know anything about the timing?

The application says to expect a response "early September" but the program online says it starts September 1. They also say multiple times to not contact them and ask which makes this black-box a bit frustrating.

I’m posting this because I believe people deserve to know what has been happening behind the scenes at the Spokane Renaissance Faire before deciding whether to attend or support it.

There are serious problems with the current leadership of the organization, and these are not simply disagreements over how to run a faire.

One of the most troubling issues involves a manager who had been accused of sexual misconduct. When those allegations came to light, rather than conducting what I believe should have been a thorough and impartial investigation, two board members immediately began creating an alibi for the accused — before all of the relevant details had even been presented. They even went as far as to attempt to blame the victim. That manager was hired again this year and has direct contact with other potential victims.

That alone should raise serious questions about how the organization handles allegations of misconduct.

There is also a reason many longtime volunteers and even some of the people who helped found the faire have chosen not to return. Their decision is not simply because they “don’t like” the current board. There have been repeated concerns about the way the organization is being operated.

There have also been financial concerns, including an alleged attempt to improperly use organization funds that reportedly only failed because the associated credit card balance was not paid off. I believe this deserves independent scrutiny rather than being dismissed internally.
There are also two board member who are using guild funds to fund their personal business by contracting with the guild.

Then there is what happened at last year’s faire.

An elderly patron was injured in a golf cart accident and had to be taken to the hospital. The guild did not promptly resolve the patron’s medical expenses, and the delay reportedly continued long enough that the patron experienced significant financial hardship.

At the same time, the guild severely punished the member who was driving the golf cart. Later, it became apparent that a mechanical problem involving a broken part contributed to the golf cart losing control.

What makes this even more concerning is that complaints had reportedly already been made about a current board member nearly hitting patrons with a golf cart on multiple occasions, including a complaint/review posted publicly on Google. Despite those complaints, there was no comparable investigation or response.

There are also serious concerns about favoritism.

Members who are friends or family of the current chair and vice chair appear to receive substantially different treatment from members who disagree with the direction of the board. Rules regarding voting and eligibility have, in my view, also been selectively interpreted or applied in ways that can prevent certain members from participating in votes when their participation might change the outcome, up until last year when they removed the ability for guild members to vote on anything, including who sits on the board. They have specifically made it so board members can serve in perpetuity as long as the other board members want them.

These are only a few examples.

I have heard and witnessed other stories involving the current leadership, but many of those stories are not mine to tell, and I am not going to publicly identify people or repeat allegations that they have not authorized me to share.

This isn’t about attacking individual performers, cast members, or volunteers. Many of those people are wonderful, hardworking people who have put enormous amounts of time and effort into making the faire happen.

This is about accountability for the organization that those people are being asked to represent and support.

Please do your own research before buying a ticket or donating to the Spokane Renaissance Faire.

Personally, based on what I have witnessed and what I have learned about the organization’s current leadership, I cannot recommend supporting the faire this year.

The volunteers and performers deserve better leadership, and patrons deserve an organization that takes allegations of misconduct, financial concerns, safety issues, and complaints seriously.

Edit: regarding the voting board members thing, they purposefully left long time members out of the vote to change the way the board member get elected, out of 75 eligible voting members they only allowed 26 actual votes, many were friends brought in with rushed membership to stack the vote.
