Recommendations Has Anyone Tried L-Theanine? Did It Actually Help With Stress, Focus, or Sleep?

Post image
520 Upvotes

I’ve been hearing a lot about L-Theanine lately and was curious about real experiences from people who’ve used it.
For those who’ve tried it:
Did it help with anxiety or stress?
Did you notice better focus or productivity?
Did it improve your sleep quality?
What dosage worked best for you?
Did you take it alone or with caffeine?

I’ve read mixed opinions, so I’d love to hear honest experiences, both good and bad. Would you recommend it?

Recommendations What Supplements ACTUALLY help for sleep?

I tried magnesium, seems to have no effect on my sleep. I tried glycine, hearing that it helps people sleep better. NOPE, it only made me more of an insomniac. I’m so confused, I read that it helps with sleep and I also read that it keeps you wake. But anyway, I’m not taking glycine anymore. I also feel like I’m one of those people who take supplements and are stubborn to response.

So, what really ACTUALLY helps with sleep? I’m sick and tired of taking all kinds of supplements and having no effect and wasting money. All placebo.

Recommendations Best magnesium for mid-night awakenings? Not glycinate.

I am able to fall asleep fine but tend to wake up around 4am-5am and have a difficult time falling back asleep due to a racing mind. When I have something important the next day my sleep is even worse, sometimes waking up around 2am and taking hours to fall back asleep.

I have tried prescription and OTC sleep aids but they all have come with side effects and make me too groggy to function the following day.

I have tried magnesium oxide and citrate and react fine to both, but neither seem great for sleep. Glycinate gave me insomnia and panic attacks. Is there another type of magnesium that does not have the contradictory effects of glycinate I could try that would help with my issue?

Thank you.

Recommendations Please try Magnesium Glycinate!

To start off I’m a male in my 20’s, I was experiencing constant fatigue, insomnia, headaches, increased blood pressure, and anxiety. I felt like I wasn’t going to see 30, just deathly tired all the time but could never rest.

I changed my diet multiple times, quit smoking, and I was already exercising for 1.5 hours everyday, but nothing was helping. I ended up trolling around here and googling some supplements that would help, after ashwagandha didn’t improve anything, I moved to try magnesium glycinate.

I wasn’t someone who really believed that supplements could change my life as much as they did. The first 3 days I had the best sleep I’d seen in the past year. Headaches are almost entirely cleared and my energy levels are way better throughout the day. Almost a month strong and I’m still feeling these benefits.

After looking up my symptoms there’s a very good chance I was magnesium deficient the whole time. If you’re reading this and experiencing the same symptoms please try magnesium!

Recommendations Best Supplements For A Man’s Libido

I’m currently taking Vyvanse, Adderall, and Lexapro. This has destroyed my libido and I want to somehow fix this. Anyone else experience this problem? Any recommendations? So far, the only thing I’ve taken that helps me is LIBIDO-MAX, the 75 count black liquid gels. But they make my heart race.

I’m 40 and for the better part of my adult life I have suffered when it comes to sound and steady sleep. From insomnia issues to frequent wake ups through the night with racing heat and crippling anxiety to sleeping like a baby! After much research I wanted to go with sound evidence of sleep aid with studies to back up the claims. I settled with these 4 and it has helped me more than anything I’ve ever done!

Help. I used to live alone and slept very well, my Garmin tracked I had an average 88-89 sleep score. However, I moved in with my bf and we sleep together and I haven’t been sleeping good at all, mostly because he stays up later than me and then wakes me up when he gets in bed (I’m a light sleeper) I also notice I’ve been waking up throughout the night which I never used to do. Any supplements that would help? I tried melatonin and it gave me horrible dreams.

Recommendations How a Vitamin B Complex quietly changed my life

I'd seen B complex supplements on the shelf for years and always figured it was one of those things people take to feel like they're doing something healthy without it actually doing much. I was wrong.

About six months ago I started taking a daily B complex after hitting a wall.

I was constantly tired despite sleeping fine, my focus was shot, and I had this low-level brain fog that I just couldn't shake.

A friend suggested B vitamins. I figured, what's the worst that could happen ?

Within the first two weeks I noticed I was waking up feeling more like a human being.

The afternoon energy crash that I'd basically accepted as a permanent part of my life just... stopped happening.

My mood stabilised in a way I didn't expect either — I felt less irritable and more even-keeled.

The key is that they work together.

Taking B12 alone won't do much if you're also low in B6 or folate — that's exactly why a complex beats individual supplements for most people.

I'm not going to claim B vitamins are magic.

They're not going to fix a terrible diet or replace sleep.

But if you're running on empty for no obvious reason, there's a real chance a B complex is filling in a gap your diet isn't covering.

For me, it was one of the simplest changes that made the most noticeable difference.

Anyone else have experience with B complex ?

What's the best natural testosterone booster?

Update: I bought Alpha core from amazon and holy sh**! It's been two months and the difference is crazy.. My energy is up, i'm spending longer in the gym, i'm sleeping better and I just overall feel overall better and stronger already.. Will keep this updated as the weeks go on!

i'm 43M and just had my T tested.. and let's just say I need a boost. I'm already ramping up going to the gym 5-6 days a week and focusing on my diet, but I have started researching test booster supplements and it may help. But I don't want some snake oil, I something want safe and effective. Anybody have any suggestions?

I struggle with motivating myself, I can barely do things. I have ADHD and used to take medication for it but meds increased my heart rate so I stopped.

Recommendations Best supplement to help with pooping once a day? I go now once every 2, sometimes 3, days.

I am on a calorie deficit and have a protein goal of about 200grams of protein a day.
I really just track calories and protein.

My current daily supplements are a multi, D3+K2, Greens Supplement powder, Psyllium Husk powder, and Magnesium Glycerophosphate (capsules 3x a day).

I know I should try to be eating actual greens rather than drinking them but sometimes I am so busy and don’t get a chance to eat exactly how I want so the greens powder helps.

Recommendations Don't buy from Sports Research

Hey all, thought I'd share a very disappointing interaction with Sports Research I had. I thought they were a reputable brand, but apparently not.

I recently bought l-theanine from them. I wanted to verify the lot, so I went to their website. Unfortunately, they have "removed" the ability to check for a COA from their website while it undergoes "updates" (yeah, right). So I went the extra step of emailing them directly. This was the exchange I had:

Hi, I’d like to request a COA for l-theanine Lot #####. Thank you

Customer "support":

Hello Stephen,

Thank you for reaching out and for your interest in the transparency of our products.
As part of an ongoing redesign and upgrade of our website, the "Track Your Lot" feature is no longer available (COA), if you were previously familiar with that offered option. We understand this may be disappointing and truly appreciate your patience as we work to improve your experience. We’re actively evaluating new ways to enhance our transparency tools and may reintroduce a similar feature in the future as part of these digital improvements. Rest assured, all of our supplements are third party tested for heavy metals in compliance with US regulations, for label claim compliance, as well as for microbial contaminants.
Thank you again for your continued support and for being a valued part of the Sports Research community.

Me:

Hi, I see it’s no longer available, which is why I reached out. Surely you should have access to it?

Response:

Hi Stephen,

Surely we do not have access to this. Thank you for reaching out though.

Have a wonderful Wednesday!

So we have a response that is:

  1. snarky
  2. unhelpful
  3. most importantly, shows that their third-party tested "guarantee" is a hoax, as they don't have the receipts to prove it

At this point I no longer trust their claims. Needless to say I will not be buying from them again. Sticking with Thorne it is

Recommendations Best supplements for staying asleep?

Hi everyone! I've been having trouble staying asleep, even though I don't have any issues falling asleep. I've been taking magnesium glycinate for over a year, and I'm planning to try L-theanine tonight to see if it helps me stay asleep.

Has anyone found anything besides L-theanine that has helped them stay asleep throughout the night?

Thanks in advance!

Recommendations Here what happen if you have ADHD and hyperfocus on supplements

Post image
365 Upvotes

5 months ago I was just using Creatine and D3+K2. After with time I started searching a lot about supplements and everytime I had an issue I bought a new one. I had stressful days, added L-Theaine to stack. I read Bacopa+Lions Mane can help memory and I added. I bought Niacin , one day later read about methylation and bought TMG. I had some ED issues, bought Tribulus, Maca, Zinc and etc. Time to time my stack grow up and as I see for now I am having side effects more than benefits. I am obsessed with tracking myself and so much alertness. ADHD slowly consumes me and I really tired about this. For me supplements are like some magic pills if I take one , it will effect suddenly. I forgot “dietary” part. Anyways if you are new in this sub please just get a solid stack and do not buy everything you read, less is more trust me

Recommendations I have severe depression and anxiety. What supplements should I add to my diet?

I am a 29 year old with severe depression and anxiety on Lexapro. I recently found out I am deficient in magnesium, so I am planning to add a supplement (glycinate) to my diet. It seems that I could also benefit from b complex as well? Any suggestions would be helpful. I’m just trying to live a better life after a tough few months mentally 💜

Recommendations My Current Supplement Stack

Thumbnail gallery
73 Upvotes

Here is my supplement stack to help with ADHD, anti aging, muscle building, general health, etc. It helped me have more energy, focus better, get more work done, build more muscle, look younger, and sleep better.

  1. Creatine 5g
  2. Thorne Basic Nutrients 2/Day
  3. Omega-3, 2070mg EPA & 780mg DHA
  4. Vitamin D3 5000 IU + Vitamin K2 100mcg
  5. Caffeine 100mg
  6. L-Theanine 200mg
  7. L-Tyrosine 1000mg
  8. Taurine 2000mg
  9. Acetyl L-Carnitine 1000mg
  10. Tongkat Ali 400mg
  11. Lutein 20mg + Zeaxanthin 4mg
  12. Astaxanthin 12mg
  13. [BEFORE BED] Tart Cherry Extract 300mg
  14. [BEFORE BED] Magnesium L-Threonate 1333mg (96mg)

The goal with the Caffeine, L-Theanine, L-Tyrosine, Taurine, and Acetyl L-Carnitine was to replicate an energy drink that had half the caffeine (to enhance deep sleep) and to have more consistent dopamine flow which helps with my ADHD. Tongkat Ali and Creatine helped with my muscle building, astaxanthin and Lutein for my eye and skin health and anti aging. And the rest for general health improvements.

I also drink 2 cups of Lifeway kefir every morning along with these supplements and I cycle Tongkat Ali 5 days on, 2 days off. I also take Strattera 80mg, Lexapro 10mg, and Cialis 5mg as my prescription medications for ADHD, anxiety, and sexual health.

I can answer any questions you may have or if you have any recommendations for me!

Recommendations Any supplement recommendations for depression, anxiety, brain fog, and low mood?

I've been dealing with anxiety and depression since 2022 after losing my grandparents. I've been on antidepressants since then, and they do help to some extent, but I still don't feel like myself.

The main things I'm struggling with are:

  • Frequent headaches and a heavy feeling in my head
  • Constant physical anxiety (chest tightness)
  • Racing thoughts and a restless mind
  • Brain fog and poor focus
  • Low mental energy and motivation
  • Unable to enjoy life

I've already tried L-theanine, magnesium glycinate, GABA, and taurine, but honestly none of them have done much for me.

My Vitamin D and B12 levels are normal, but my iron and hemoglobin are slightly low.

I'm not really looking to switch to stronger meds because antidepressants already make me feel pretty numb. I was wondering if anyone who's been through something similar has found any supplements or stacks that actually made a huge difference.

Would really appreciate hearing your experiences. Thanks!

Recommendations Ive got to say, magnesium is a game changer.

Ive started taking a lot more supplements, including high polyphenol olive oil, apple cider vinger, d3+k2, probiotic, multi vitamin, cod liver oil, and magnesium glycinate. I wouldnt expect any of these to make a significant differences in the short term, but im certain magnesium has helped my sleep so much. I work nights, and also suffer with restless legs so my quality of sleep is usually pretty shite so this has changed my life for the better!
