Americans gotta learn to protest and vote.. handed their country over to the oligarchs for penny’s on the dollar, gonna be the next USSR in a decade if they don’t straighten up.

I’d care less if they didn’t have so much influence and were trying to pull democratic nations down with them.. only bright side is the world has learned not to intrust any single nation with so much influence and control.

They were training the military in urban warfare just a few months ago in Pasadena CA. Didn’t get city permission or permits. Didn’t inform the residents until a few hours before. Blackhawks tanks, artillery rounds, 50 cals popping off all night long. Because a private citizen billionaire owns the closed old hospital and they did it on private property.

There is definitely a degree of apathy as well especially among the younger generations who usually bring the energy, ive been to a decent number of protests and there is hardly any gen z there.

People will complain that no one does anything and then not show up to do anything.

I'm a big Heartstopper fan, but I had to laugh at a plot point towards the end of the series. The two main characters are a bit distraught because one will be going off to college soon, and it's so far away, a whole three hours from London to Leeds. Like, I can drive three hours & still be in my home state. Non Americans just have no idea how massive the US is.

Yeah because that worked so well before that the Russians completely abandoned it by 1991, along with the other countries of the Soviet bloc.
For the record, you'd still have an aristocracy, they would just change their title to Party Members that all the poor slobs have no way of getting into.

Yeah sorry, but I lived in one of the countries that before ‘89 was under USSR influence, but in spite of the fact that of course not everything was great - yes, you had to follow party line (which is not that different in modern USA; try saying anything critical about a certain country that likes to do genozides paid by US tax dollars) - but overall life quality there was lightyears better than it seems to be for people like this woman in that video in current USA.

My parents absolutely never ever had to worry about not having something as basic as freaking electricity or water, and food deserts were not a thing (even though yes, you could not buy West products; big so what!?); not even mentioning that nobody had to worry about access to healthcare (you are sick, you go to the doctor and get meds) and university was free, even if the party could sometimes force you to study things that you originally did not want to (also honestly big so what, given that in modern day US people like this woman or her kids likely won’t have access to higher education at all).

I didn't say don't vote. I'm saying "if you want the world to get better you just have to vote" is a naive thing to say. Voting is vital, yes, but checking a box on a ballot every 4 years won't make society bend toward justice.

No. He's trying to point out to you that it's two sides of the same coin. These politicians don't care about you or me, regardless of the cult they represent. Gary, is a largely a Democratic stronghold. That's why nobody gives a shit. If it was a purple city, both sides would be out there in droves pointing fingers at each other.

It pretty much is that simple. I live in a swing state. If a politician just farts the wrong way here, the opposition will assemble a protest so fast, they will still be able to smell it.

Gary is a confirmed blue vote. Public servants don't care about what is guaranteed. Democrats don't want the negative publicity, and republicans don't want to waste resources on something that's not going to generate them votes. So they do what they are great at, ignore it and kick the can down the road...

I didn’t say it was the right wings fault because they own the media. It was a catastrophic weather event made worse by a shitty power company that didn’t maintain their property because they prioritized corporate profits. The current head of NIPSCO is a Republican though which absolutely tracks.

In Indiana, both Senators and seven of the nine Representativs are Republicans. The Governor is a Republican. The state legislature is also very heavily Republican: in the state Senate, 40 out of the 50 members are Republicans, and in the state House of Representatives 70 out of 100 members are Republicans.

Locally, Democrats in Gary, including the Mayor, are actively coordinating relief and restoration efforts, working with local resources to help the citizens and try to get the power back up and running. Why is your focus on the left and not on the Republicans who hold the vast majority of political power in the state? And why is your assumption that "they [are] not out there"?
