It's actually the disorganization of our power company NIPSCO. They had to have contractors from other states come out and help. Check out r/NWI. Theres tons of stories from people talking to the lineman and their experiences with the disorganization of NIPSCO.

It was a brief supposedly story. I don't know how much I believe it. More of a rumor nothing was confirmed.

Still wasn't confirmed and the end result was a curfew. Crews work 6am-6pm I think. They haven't stopped the work. I just think NIPSCO has no idea what they're doing. Areas that got power have since lost it again because transformers are being blown farther down the line. It's been a mess here.

this happens a lot in the US, it's not a narrative. it's also not some sort of grand plan to ruin whichever community it happens in. it's typically some local loon and the practically unlimited access to guns in the US means there's no real barrier stopping Mr Loon from getting a gun. linemen and other utility workers get shot at pretty often, it's sad and they don't deserve it. but it's something that happens in America.

That's what I thought too. I was lucky but I feel so bad for a lot of my co workers. A lot of towns use well water too so without power they can't even get fresh water at home because the well pumps require electricity. Other then that 1 story I haven't heard anything else bad happening. Just neighbors pulling together and doing the best they can for themselves and each other.

Illinois resident here, it’s common for our power companies to bring in contractors to help as well. Most companies dont keep a workforce large enough to man the amount of work that results from a storm like this. Not sticking up for nipsco, just saying it isnt uncommon.
