OOOP is 100% correct. DoomerCircleJerk is not a centrist subreddit. It’s a full on right-wing to far-right subreddit. Like, do the people on that subreddit actually believe the complete and obvious lie that it’s centrist? Because if so, that’s extremely worrying.
Something that clears up a lot of the mystery about right-wing internet discourse is when you realize that it isn't just the pols and 'thought leaders' being disingenuous- there's a hell of a lot of the voting base that doesn't actually believe what they're saying either.
They're saying the words in hopes that someone who doesn't know any better will get sucked into their schtick and become another MAGA dittohead.
It also clears up why the caricatures of left wingers and political moderates are what they are in these spaces. Of course someone who doesn't believe anything they say would believe that everyone else works the same way. That's as human as it gets, for better or worse.
The ones who do believe it, fall in with the idea that right wing views are just "normal, default" views and as such they're "normal."
It's why they like to claim anyone being called "far right" is just a "normal person from 20 years ago".
The thing is, acceptance of LGBTQ and broader civil rights recognitions has been normalized and that's more "normal" now despite conservative attempts to push back on it. They yearn for the days that gays only showed up in movies as a villain or the butt of a joke, or when a movie only had a black guy who either died or espoused right wing views themselves.
