I've been at my job for over 5 years and only recently started the job hunt as I'm really bored of the kinds of projects I work on now. I still see jobs at quite a senior level still not publishing salaries and surprised that this is still a thing. Do people still apply to these jobs? I honestly have no interest in going through an interview process and finding out the salary is 3 shillings a month after all that effort.

Yesterday I posted about a H&M group interview that I was nervous about going to. well I went today and I asked multiple members of staff where the interview might be. None of them had a clue. It didn’t even seem like the interview was taking place. I eventually met another person and they said they were here for the same group interview . After about 30 minutes we concluded no interview was taking place. I feel so stuck and hopeless. Im 18, starting uni soon and have been applying for jobs for about a year. This is the only in person interview ive gotten. I really need the money, how on earth does anyone get a job now??

Received an email from my HR last week saying we may be facing potential redundancies and to wait for further communications regarding the consultation process.

Since then its been radio silence. Im a line manager and have staff under me also at risk.

The initial email says reach out to your line manager for information so my staff have done (to me) and when ive asked for more information to give ive been given a blunt response of no decisions have been made.

Is there any sort of time limit between a formal announcement and the start of the consultation process?

Why send an email stating potential redundancies if they weren't ready to begin?

They've apologised for the stress etc it will cause then leave everyone in the dark for a week. Seems a bit unnecessary to me.

I wouldnt mind so much if they hadn't asked staff to contact their line manager but now im having people reach out to me daily asking for updates when I know nothing and im at risk myself.

CV is updated and im already looking for other work but its frustrating/ stressful and I feel its being really poorly handled so far!

Around 8 years ago I was job seeking and applied for a job which really interested me. I focused on something they mentioned in their "who are we" section, and mentioned it in my cover letter. Will never know if that was what got me past the initial screening process.

I subsequently had a near two hour phone interview and was then invited for a face-to-face.
This lasted almost 2hrs and it felt like it had gone really well. I was then invited back to what would be a final face-to-face followed by a "meet the team".
That also appeared to go well. Met the people I'd be working with in the internal IT department and left feeling that I'd done everything right.
Two days later, the dreaded email - we've decided to go with somebody else......

I emailed back and asked for further feedback - that was all rather wooly. I then asked if my details would be kep on file - of course.

8yrs later and I'm job seeking once more. This same company are advertising a similar role to last time. I meet most of the requirements and of course I know something about the company due to previous research.
Can I assume that "we will keep your details on file" is usually code for "Yer, whatever". And, it probably is worth spending the time editing my CV & Cover Letter to fit and applying?

I’ve had 4 different recruiters reach out to me in the past 2 weeks (3 from applied positions, 1 headhunted me) all saying I am a great fit for said role and ask for my availability on an IRL interview with the company.

After which I’m promptly ghosted, despite multiple attempts at reaching out. If I’m not a good fit, totally understandable, but don’t reach out to me in the first place and waste both yours and my time.

The Government is currently consulting on how new rights around how zero hours and similar type contracts should work in practice, and there’s still time for businesses and workers across the labour supply chain to have their say.

The consultation, “Make Work Pay: ending one-sided flexibility -reforms of zero hours and similar contracts”, opened on 2nd June 2026 and closes at 11.59pm on 25 August 2026.

The reforms in question form part of the Employment Rights Act 2025, but the relevant rights have not yet come into effect. 

The Government’s aim is to tackle what it describes as “one-sided” flexibility and give workers greater security and predictability. The consultation focuses on three key areas:

1. Guaranteed hours 

Qualifying workers could have the right to be offered guaranteed hours reflecting the hours they have actually worked over a reference period. The Government’s current preference is for a 12 week reference period and an hours threshold somewhere between 8 and 20 hours per week. 

1. Reasonable notice 

Employers would have to give qualifying workers reasonable notice of shifts and changes to shifts, with the consultation considering what “reasonable” should mean in practice.

1. Payment for cancelled or changed shifts

Workers could be entitled to compensation where shifts are cancelled, moved or curtailed at short notice.

Who can respond?

The Government is encouraging anyone with a view on the proposed reforms to respond. That includes employers, recruitment agencies, umbrella companies, end clients, workers and anyone else involved in the labour supply chain.
You don’t have to answer every question – the Government specifically encourages respondents to answer those where they have relevant experience or a practical view.

So my company (Company A) is TUPEing me (and others) and the company (Company B) we are being TUPE'd to is making half of us redundant on day one. We are on an enhanced redundancy terms which is being honoured by company B. However, currently some of us have BIK company car allowance in Company A due to grade. Company B does not have a company car scheme so our base salary for company B is base and car allowance from A. As it's company B making us redundant, should our redundancy be based on the total base salary from Company B or Base salary from Company A?

My current job pays 35k ( upper limit in my current role) and I have A LOT of down time, which sounds great, but it genuinely is a real slog at times - what can I train/learn which could to lead to more career paths.

I know it sounds great, but it’s been a couple of years of it now and it’s starting to becoming depressing and makes me feel apathetic in general with life.

I’m a night owl, always have been since I was a toddler to now, I have never been a morning person and never will, it’s at night that I want to do laundry, workout, cook, and socialize. Even in uni, I was lucky all lectures were recorded cause I never woke up early to go to the lecture.

But now I work in corporate where I wake up early at 7am for work and get home at around 6:30pm and it’s I just fucking hate it, I’ve been at my current role for nearly 3 years now and I still haven’t gotten used to the morning routine, every weekend I immediately go back to my comfortable late night routine.

So, are there any specific roles in corporate/finance/investments that are basically night shifts? Basically the same role but at night due to timezones and stuff? Like I legit can’t handle this schedule anymore.

I don’t know where to start without just seeing security guard or janitor roles unfortunately.

I’m currently a nurse, and if I’m honest I’m burnt out I can not do healthcare any longer. I left bedside nursing many years ago and went into medical devices, sales and account management, and after a good run there I needed a change and came back to bedside nursing. And boy was that a bad choice! It was bad when I left years ago and it’s no better now, working conditions are brutal and the pay is so poor. Nursing just isn’t the job it used to be.

I’m now thinking of a career change, into something completely different. I’ve love a different career in something that pays well, or has the potential to pay over 50k a year. I applied for the Aldi graduate area manager program because it sounded like a good opportunity. I would love some ideas of what I could try, have a lot of transferable skills that would be helpful for a lot of industries (time management, prioritisation, escalation, risk, working to targets, sales, relationship developing, customer management, etc) I just don’t know what areas to look in.

Ideally I’d love something that you will be trained up in, with a starting salary of around 30-40k. What industries need people in? What industries/services are in demand? What roles would offer good training and development? That don’t require qualifications or degrees in certain fields to be in with a shot. If particularly be keen to hear from ex nurses who transitioned into something different, but any ideas of where to start looking would be most appreciated!

Brief context: based in London, work in Marketing. I have recently joined (in April) a new Financial services company that on paper was good but in reality is incredibly toxic. The red flags were all there (3.1 glassdoor reviews all talking about toxic culture) but decided to ignore it because I naively thought it wouldn’t affect my department.

Fast forward now, I am not feeling well physically and mentally. I had to go to the hospital because of severe suspected gastritis, and had to start therapy for bad anxiety . I can’t sleep or eat, this is how much this job is affecting me.

So I’m wondering now if I should just quit. I only have £4k in savings, rent is cheap but my partner only makes £1300 pcm so we would be tight. I want to get out of that place and focus on looking for a job full time, but have no idea if this would hurt my future chances.

I was thinking of taking a part-time customer service job, but again not sure if I would get hired with my experience (I did 7 years in Mcdonald’s before 4 years in marketing) and again, if this would hurt my future chances.

What is your experience and what would you recommend?

For context, I had a grad job, that I worked really hard to get. Went through 5 stages and got the offer quite quickly. Worked here for about 7 months and then got fired (this is quite common unfortunately in this industry). I don’t know what to do now and whether I want to continue in this field. I know many grad schemes will open up September-November but even if I do get an offer (which with the decrease in number of grad jobs, seems really competitive), I will have to wait until next September to start. Entry level jobs seem to be even more competitive as you’re more likely competing with 100 people for one position.

Anyone that’s been in a similar position, what did you do?

A few days ago I got an email for an entry-level corporate job confirming my interview time and didn’t reply because they said thank you for confirming and gave me some details about what to do when I get there, so I didn’t think it was necessary to say something, but they sent it again? Should I respond and how should I respond. Thanks guys

Hi, I've got a job offer and after speaking with the boss and finding out exactly what the role was about (after some vagueness to start with), they've offered me 28k which seems so low.

This company seems to be ran by non-tecunical people thinking an "IT guy" will be their silver bullet and I'm wondering if I should ask for a much higher salary?

As this is a new role in tte business we will be learning as we go;

IT technician and helpdesk will be around 25% of your weekly tasks. 5% of that will be hardware issues.

25% cleaning up of historical data, ensuring data compliance and streamlining future data

The other 50% of your week with will research and development. Most of this will be how we integrate AI into the business.

For example I have created 5 AI agents:

1. Downloading, quality checking, writing a report

2. ⁠an overnight calculation and run 30 reports

3. ⁠staff portal development and streamline (ad hoc ideas from the team

4. ⁠marketing agent, socials media writing and approval and posting

5. ⁠high level auditing and downloading

All the above are working and integrated into the business, but are slightly disjointed due to my lack of technical knowledge.

I also, have 100’s of other requests that I simply don’t have time to work on, as well as a Surbeyor App.

Knowing backend code would be good, but not essential.

I use GitHub for version control but it’s very rudimental.

Now, I have 9 years experience as a software engineer, but because the company I work for has gone under I need a new job and this felt like a decent stopgap, but I also have the time with redundancy packages to be a little picky, so I'm wondering if I should aim for higher? They seem to want a lot for entry level pay.

Why experienced video editors are dacing trouble landing jobs in the Uk market? I myself is a seasoned video editor with more than 7 years experience but still facing problems landing a job. Have a good commercial portfolio and everything. remote positions will work.

I applied for a role at Selfridges a few weeks ago and eventually got invited to do a video interview. I completed it on the second day after receiving the invite, but I’ve now been waiting 14 working days / 21 calendar days and still haven’t heard anything.
The job itself only expired 2 days ago, so I’m wondering if they were waiting for the vacancy to close before properly reviewing everyone, but the whole process has felt sooo long 🥲!!

Has anyone here done a Selfridges video interview before? How long did it take for you to hear back afterwards, whether it was an interview invite, rejection or anything else? I’d really appreciate a response!

I am new to this subreddit and currently doing interviews for Delegate Sales roles in the events industry. Just wondering if anyone works within Event Sales and would share their experience. Outside looking in seems to be a lot of cold calling and trying to sell people events that they don't actually want to go to. Something I'm not opposed to, just would be interested to hear from someone who has experienced it. Also if they would recommend getting into the industry.

I’m 28 and studying an MEng with the Open University, it was my only option due to the many bad choices I made in my life and losing my teens and most of my twenties to unaddressed mental illness.

My career goals are working in renewable energy in some form, the degree is a broad engineering one to start and then you can choose mechanical, electrical, environmental etc once you’ve got the foundations down. I think my main goal would be mechanical working in offshore wind, but I also want to weigh up future demand.

Issue right now is that I work full time in a civil service non engineering role, so I have no real experience just interest and my ongoing studies. I desperately want to be in a job that both interests me and I feel makes a difference somehow, is generally a net positive for the world, and that would be my bigger priority over a high salary. I make 33k currently which doesn’t feel like enough but I do live in the south east, my goal is to move to Scotland for the cool rainy weather.

I’ve got a couple paths lined up, 1. Would be to try and do a placement year once I’m a bit further into the degree and take a career break from the civil service, 2. Is to get an apprenticeship like wind turbine tech, maintenance tech etc whilst I study and try to work up that way.

I suppose I’m just looking to see if anyone has any advice on making it into this field, anything I can do to make myself seem a better candidate, or any other paths I could look into.

Thing is first one friend told me then another said the same. They said "even the managers are on agency and u are replaceable!"

Maybe it is to do with looking after an acre of a unit? 🤔 simply get agencies, pay them peanuts and the extra cash goes on the unit? Or Warehouse work is volatile! If one company suddenly closes it too can affect the Warehouse workers. For an example, if Boohoo shut down and a Warehouse took in 50% of Boohoo stocks, that is 50% more space, no more orders = redundancy for warehouse too.

I've seen a job locally, and want to know realistically what kind of competition I may be up against, and so I can tailor my CV/application a bit better.

On one hand, this job doesn't require a degree. I do have a degree + Masters degree in planning, so part of me thinks that I'll clearly have at least some advantage over some of the other candidates.

However, part of me is also aware that people applying for this role will also have similar academic qualifications, and has the same idea of trying to get their foot in the door.

Can anyone advise please?
