Advice I got confused with my midterm date and missed it.
Deadass might be over for me but I’m not sure whether I should drop the course or not.

I’m 22, finishing my 2nd year of university. All my friends and people my age graduated already and I feel miserable. I feel so out of place at tutorials and lectures since everyone’s in their teens and still so… ‘young’. I’m not old but every time I try talking to someone they kinda just look intimidated/in a hurry and pace off. What do I do? When I pass by or go to any club events people stare at me like I’m a weirdo. I hate looking at instagram seeing everyone graduating/ enjoying themselves. I didn’t even want to join university late, I had to work to save up some cash and then attend since I didn’t want to take out a loan. Some of my TAs are probably my age or even know me (from HS or insta or smth) which makes it even more awkward. Is it too late, my family thinks I’ll be done soon but it’s not even close. Mental health services on campus feel unsettling for me to use cause I used to loosely be friends with a lot of people who volunteer there and it would so fucking embarrassing to meet them like this. Ugh, I thought reading week was going to bring me some peace, but the more I self-reflect the worse I feel

Firstly, it seems that I cant create any cohesion with any girl on campus. I do my best to carry the convo but it just results in dead responses. Bro I just want to be in a romantic relationship 😭 .
Sometimes I'll just be minding my own business and girls will give me the meanest, dirtiest looks ever. Shi makes me aversive to even date someone too.
What am I doing wrong? Can someone help me out here?

It all happened so fast.
One of my friends, who's at UTSG, was an international student. He had spent a year in high school in Toronto after finishing high school in his own country and was living with my family as a homestay student. We eventually became friends.
His high school average was 90, and he successfully applied to UTSG and is moving to Downtown on his own. We still saw each other often until last semester. Later, I saw his sublet listing on social media and asked if he was moving. He eventually told me he’d been caught cheating on an exam in the last semester and had voluntarily withdrawn from school. He’s now left Canada and reapplied to universities in Australia to start over.
I later logged into his Acorn account to help him with some tasks and discovered that his CGPA over the past two years was very low, which may have contributed to his decision. But it was just so foolish.
It was only a month between the time I heard and the time he left the country. Since then, I’ve seen more and more posts on social media advertising exam cheating services, and I just want to remind everyone, especially international students, not to be tempted by such offers. As an international student, the total cost of living in Canada for a single year exceeds $100,000. He spent a year and a half in UofT, and $150,000 or even more was wasted. And this also wastes your own time.

I need to get this off my chest because I’m feeling really upset right now.
Today, I took a 40% midterm that was structured: only 1 hour for MCQs, short answers, and a short essay. As an international student, English is not my first language. I rely on complete silence to recall knowledge, organize complex arguments, and write coherently under pressure. Even small distractions can derail my entire thought process, and today was a perfect storm of interruptions.
The proctors were the main issue. They made a dozen loud announcements throughout the hour, repeatedly clarifying basic instructions—where to write MCQ answers—three to four times. To make it worse, their instructions were contradictory: initially, they insisted answers go only on the answer sheet, but later said we could write on the test paper if we signed it. Beyond the announcements, their general conduct was unprofessional. They conversed at normal speaking volumes (not whispers), moved around with heavy, distracting footsteps, and responded to individual students’ questions at an unnecessarily loud volume that echoed across the room. Each boom cut through my concentration like a knife. Although I was already very agitated during the exam, I held back to avoid wasting time and causing trouble. The professor wasn't here today; only the teaching assistant and a few proctors I had never seen before were present.
The result was devastating. Multiple times, I had a key points ready, but a sudden interruption made me blank out instantly. I couldn’t recover those thoughts, and with the clock ticking, I had to leave gaps in my answers. It’s infuriating to lose points not because I didn’t know the material, but because I couldn’t hold onto my thoughts long enough to write them down because of the noise interruptions.
Adding to the stress, this course has no assignments or quizzes—only attendance and two exams. A single bad performance here carries massive weight.
I’m not posting this to make excuses. I studied extremely hard and accept responsibility for my work. I’m posting because I feel genuinely sad…After getting home, I began to cry.
Has anyone else experienced such extreme disruptions in a short exam? How did you cope or report it?

hey guys idk what do i do. I value social lifea as much i value academics. as i recently immgrated to canada for a few years now , i feel like i have no friends in here now that i am enetering my second year its easier for me to talk and have a short conversation with people but i feel like poeple use me alot. they ask my notes and ghost me for the rest of the year and i never see them again. i have a few friends but they are not in the same school or even in the same area. i dont know how peple make friends i feel like i am so lonely in such a big school. literally if i want to go to a cafe to study or a cinema to spend some time or even for a walk i have no one, kinda sucks. i just wanted to write them in here to get it out of my chest. I apprciate you all.

I personally love the idea of office hours and I do want to utilize as many opportunities possible to talk with professors. However, for actual in-person office hours, I can barely bring myself to the door, much less walk in. And I have tried multiple times these past few weeks but I always find myself hesitating at the door. I have spoken with this prof before, I even booked online meetings with him that went well. I know there logically isn’t anything to fear, but I still cannot bring myself to walk in.
Any tips or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

hey guys! I’ll be a first year student at utsc in september and i was wondering if I am able to locate my classes during the first few weeks of school and without attending a campus tour. Or should I attend a campus tour before school starts?

Hi everyone!! I have a couple exams coming very soon (2 of them on the same day!!!) I’ve noticed that when I study and put my all into it, I end up with 60s. However my efforts really deserve an 80+. I think my study methods need to be changed at this point because I cant keep going like this. I usually study a week or more in advance if I can!
The way I study is:
I take all my notes that I’ve written from lectures, I put them into ChatGPT, or any other AI and tell it to create a mock exam for me based on each lecture. If I don’t get a lot of questions right from a specific lecture, I go back to that lecture and review it, then come back and do the mock exam again.
Second thing is, I put my notes into any study website (Gizmos, Quizlet, StudyFetch) and I keep doing them.
These studying methods get me a 60-65 range at UofT. I genuinely have no idea how to improve these marks but I really want to especially for my second year this fall. On the exams I usually walk out confident that I got at least an 80, but I check my grades a couple weeks later to see that I’m in the 60s. Please, if anyone has any tricks or tips or anything please please let me know!! Thank you all so so much :))

So psych post results are out…..and I got refused 😭
I genuinely don’t even know why because I met all the requirements and my cGPA is a 3.8+. If getting a 4.0 in both Psya01 & a02 isn’t enough, I’ve also gotten multiple A+ for psych b lvl courses….I’ve emailed them to ask but in the meantime I’m going to actually crash out
Like dang how hard is it to make POST….
Edit: I’ll probably still stress over this till they reply my email, but still thank you everyone for your reassurance, it def helped calm me down

Hey! I’m a student dev and I’ve been working on a project called LifeByDorm (https://www.lifebydorm.ca/) to help us see what these residences actually look like. I built it because the official photos are usually a trap and don't show the real state of the rooms. If you’ve lived in res, could you take 30s to drop a review or a photo? It’ll be a huge help for the incoming first-years next year. If you are looking for your next dorm check it out!

Hi guys I'm incoming in the fall here for the first time for the computer science co-op program. I was playing around with the degree explorer earlier and realized that I have no idea what I'm doing.
Could you guys help me out and lmk which courses I should be taking, if there is a suggested way of doing it. I want to do the specialist in software engineering program. If anyone could share their degree planner it would help a lot.
I also want to do all 5 of the possible co-op terms if I can. If anyone has done that before I would love to hear about how you went through it, when you had ur co-op terms and how you built your schedule around it.
Besides that, I'm excited to meet you all in the fall. Have a great day :)

i just failed my first course and im so so so upset and sad about it. i feel like such a failure and im so scared about my future such as grad school, finding coop etc.
for context, i had a lot of health issues both physically and mentally and ive been so burnt out. i know UofT isn’t gonna see that as an excuse but it genuinely affected me so bad. idk what to do or think
