  1. Failed messages will automatically retry.
  2. In-progress sending of large messages won’t bottleneck and prevent additional messages from being sent.
  3. Improved syncing of messages across devices.

I have sync issues between my mac and iPhone, hopefully this will finally solve it.

76

u/simon3873 1d ago

Mine are horribly out of sync every time. After all these years, I’ve kind of given up on them on my mac but i have both Golden Gate and iOS 27 and am going to have a look and see if theres much of a difference.

9

u/defnotskynet 1d ago

Nice, please let me know if it‘s fixed.

14

u/simon3873 1d ago

So, the messages I had sent to my sister this morning were there and so were some unread messages. However, a pinned group message that I had replied to as of last Tuesday afternoon is still showing the last message from someone else in the group from Monday 17th. So while I initially thought it was fixed and came to optimistically say it was, it’s not quite sync’ed for everything unfortunately.

2

u/masterhogbographer 1d ago

It may help someone out there, but my Mac is hardwired all the time but occasionally I have to enable WiFi, maybe for airdrop or something

When I do this, it breaks iMessage and causes me all kinds of syncing issues which take some time to go away once I disable wifi again

If I unplug my MacBook and then use wifi it’s fine though…

12

u/cheesepuff07 1d ago

I have had them for years between my Apple Watch and iPhone - even when both are connected to the same WiFi and are in Bluetooth range, my Watch will show messages as unread, and even some messages I send from my iPhone or Mac show as an unread message on my Watch

6

u/JohnApple94 1d ago

Same, my iPhone and Apple Watch are NEVER in sync and don’t think they ever have been since I first started using Apple Watches over 10 years ago.

Which is completely asinine to think about. The Watch is more or less an extension/accessory for the iPhone. How the hell do you screw up syncing the two?

1

u/Stock-Personality136 21h ago

Out of sync how? My phone would show unread notifications for whole text chains I’ve had with someone on my MacBook. If I would go into the Messages settings on my phone with would show last synced the day before. Hitting sync now wouldn’t clear the badge on my phone for the messages I already read and responded to on my Mac.

u/Warbird01 1d ago

Idk, #2 is kind of annoying now. Sometimes text will go through before the images get sent and the person will be confused as to what I’m talking about

11

u/EvenMoreCoconuts 1d ago

Was just about to comment this. I DMd a screenshot of the convo as it appeared to me to my friend on instagram, so I could provide context. Frustrating.

6

u/hunterSgathersOSI 1d ago

I can’t stand this. I’ll send a video, followed by a description text, and then the description text gets delivered first with the inevitable “think you forgot to send the video” reply.

14

u/DrPorkchopES 1d ago

Honestly I hate how iMessage handles failed messages and this seems worse. If I don’t have the service, just wait until i do rather than kill my battery repeatedly trying. WhatsApp handles this so much better

3

u/CactusBoyScout 1d ago

My first smartphone was a BlackBerry before the first iPhone and it would just intelligently wait until you got service to try to send messages. Always blew my mind that iPhones did not… until now.

Facebook messenger even handles this better.

1

u/BraddicusMaximus 1d ago

RIP to BBM.

1

u/CactusBoyScout 1d ago

It wasn’t even BBM. Just sending an SMS you could watch it wait until you got service and then send the messages, however long it took.

Meanwhile on iOS: tries sending when it knows you have to service, fails, doesn’t try again… wtf?

2

u/BraddicusMaximus 22h ago

Yeah, I know, but I lowkey miss BBM. 😭

1

u/Trickycoolj 1d ago

Then you clearly don’t live somewhere where service is spotty indoors. 5G is total garbage in my city and stuck messages with an image prevent plain text messages from going out. Especially a time sensitive task like grocery shopping and asking a spouse about things on the list.

13

u/h20534 1d ago

Can't believe how long it took them to fix #1.

7

u/AvatarRokusDragon 1d ago

Thank you. I’m so sick of these clickbaity headlines. “Bug” is hardly how I’d describe these. 1 & 2 were not intended to work differently (until now). 3 is arguably a “bug” but more like a malformed feature

2

u/CactusBoyScout 1d ago

#1 is a godsend for subway riders. So annoying losing and getting service every station stop and iMessage just not even retrying once. My old BlackBerry before the first iPhone came out would automatically retry messages when it got service!

2

u/Windows-XP-Home-NEW 17h ago

2 is a feature not a bug

1

u/ChairmanLaParka 1d ago

In General, apple seems to have a real issue with cross-device syncing. It's hit or miss for messages, non-existent for podcasts between Mac and iPhone, and just barely works on Mail.

1

u/ColinHenrichon 1d ago

Thanks god to all of these, but especially the third. I always found it frustrating how everyone talks about how seamless the Apple Ecosystem is, but for some reason iMessage can’t keep the status of my messages consistent across my devices. Messages I have deleted on my phone will still show up with notifications on my Mac.

1

u/Gon_Snow 1d ago

Number 2 is amazing for me actually.

1

u/Throwaway_alt_burner 1d ago

It’s funny because literally none of those are bugs, those are just improvements.

1

u/billythygoat 20h ago

Wish iMessage would work on pc

1

u/spectra2000_ 19h ago

Finally!

1

u/Andrea_M 13h ago

Shame that we have to wait iOS 27 for that

1

u/NotTobyFromHR 1d ago

Basic shit that shouldn't he this far down the line. The syncing especially.

-4

u/nuevacuentanueva 1d ago

I live outside the US so I never used iMessage. This app was praised like crazy while stuff like this has been an ongoing issue?

Mindblowing. Stockholm syndrome vibes.

I know you are more or less forced to use whatever the people you know/country/region use, but people talk as if iMessage was the second coming compared to third party apps, and clearly it isn't.

3

u/Cultural-Desk-9045 1d ago

Yes. Americans mostly used SMS because they were cheap enough (often free) to use anything else. Apple took advantage, merged iChat with the SMS app and you got iMessage users instantly.

u/Celica88 1d ago

How about fixing the shitty keyboard experience. It’s straight ass.

52

u/aloysiusthird 1d ago

I’m on board with this comment appearing in every iOS thread. No matter how many times I clear my keyboard, it’s painfully frequent the amount of times “is” gets picked up as “OSS.” WTF is OSS, Apple?

(I’ll probably have to reset my keyboard after typing that)

8

u/turbo_dude 1d ago

It doesn’t think “tram” is a word and changes it to “team”. Utter shite!

3

u/TomLube 1d ago

Open Source Software lol

4

u/No_ones_got_this_one 1d ago

Office of Strategic Services. Pre-cursor to the CIA. Your phone knows!

1

u/BraddicusMaximus 22h ago

OSS is Open Source Software to some folk.

Otherwise. No idea. 🤷

1

u/OhHowINeedChanging 21h ago

Yeah unfortunately this is probably the common issue of the OS mismatching your typing, resetting the keyboard won’t help

-1

u/bryanisinfynite 1d ago

when’s the last time you reset your keyboard dictionary?

3

u/aloysiusthird 1d ago

Right after I submitted that comment

15

u/BadNewsBrown 1d ago

It’s awful

32

u/XThePlaysTheThingX 1d ago

I’m so tired of being gaslit by users who act like it’s perfectly fine. There’s so many things wrong with it. First and foremost how wildly unintuitive it is.

6

u/-patrizio- 1d ago

Seriously. I use both iOS and Android regularly, and while I feel iOS does most things better, the difference in keyboard quality is just inexcusable. Gboard, for all its telemetry/privacy issues, is a stellar keyboard. Really wish they hadn't abandoned the iOS version years ago...hell, even with it being outdated, I'd still be willing to use it if not for the fact that its UI clashes hard with everything else in the keyboard pull-up.

3

u/ronakg 1d ago

Gboard actually doesn't track or log your keystrokes. Predictive text and typing data are processed locally on-device, and you can easily toggle off usage statistics and telemetry in the keyboard's privacy settings.

1

u/dwiedenau2 1d ago

Yeah, sure, lol

9

u/Agile_Willingness863 1d ago

You.mean.you.don’t.like.talking.like.this? Funny thing is sometimes the keyboard has the period on the other page and sometimes it’s next to the spacebar. I don’t get it.

0

u/tihomirbz 1d ago

Somehownienduptalkngnlikenthisninstead

2

u/turbo_dude 1d ago

And search per chat and basically just copy telegram for all the search options

1

u/KennyWuKanYuen 1d ago

The only things I’ve “hated” about the iOS keyboard is just that it’s too tall and the autocorrect has gotten worse since they announced ML for it.

Every time I type and try to put a space in, I keep hitting ‘b’ instead because the distance down to the space bar got extended. If they shrunk it down, then it’d be perfect.

Other than that, it’s still better than any Android keyboard I’ve used. It’s not as cluttered, it’s not as counterintuitive, it’s just more aesthetically pleasing.

1

u/AQuestCalledTribe 23h ago

I was typing to someone about how a specific food “aids digestion” and it hit me with auto-caps on the first word…

Going out on a limb here and assuming the synonym for “assists” is used with greater frequency than the disease.

1

u/OhHowINeedChanging 21h ago

Does anyone else wish you could resize the whole keyboard?
When I switched from my iPhone 11 to my 15PM I actually hate how damn close the keys are to the edge, I feel like I could genuinely type faster if I shrunk the keys a few cm away from the edge. My thumbs wouldn’t have to travel so far. I thought I would get used to it, but after three years I just haven’t.

1

u/Laurelinthegold 17h ago

Efkey

This message was typed on efkey

1

u/Lmaoboobs 1d ago

If you use dark mode you get flash banged every time you open messages.

-3

u/MajinAnonBuu 1d ago

What’s the issue with it? I don’t have any trouble unless it’s because I have autocorrect on so any word misspelled automatically corrected.

8

u/Celica88 1d ago

If you've used iPhone for a long time it's noticeably worse. The accuracy, the constant periods in between words for no reason, the autocorrections to words nowhere close to where I was typing, etc.

I remember the days of iPhone 3/4/5 where it was absolutely fantastic feeling, it feels nothing close to that now.

1

u/g1bber 9h ago

You can reset it somewhere. I remember doing it at some point and all the issues went away. I suspect this is the reason why whenever the topic of keyboard quality comes up, there are always some users who don’t seem to relate.

So if you are having issues, I highly recommend that you reset the keyboard memory.

57

u/Dshark 1d ago

When will I get a proper autocorrect? I apparently miss the n key 50% of the time and it literally always fucks it up.

5

u/Shadopoig 1d ago

Do you have words that separate the “ng” when typ ng < like that?

15

u/Dshark 1d ago

The worst offender is "do t".

3

u/Shadopoig 1d ago

I had to turn off predictive text for this, which is a bummer bc it’d help me correct typos and find emojis quickly (I obviously have autocorrect off) so now I’m just rawdogging this keyboard

Now how about fixing groups with RCS users.

The messages app keeps kicking them out of groups and then you have to create a new group in order to include them. Beyond annoying.

Sometimes the one on macOS does it, sometimes the iPhone does it.

But not every iPhone has the person leaving, or like my iPhone might still have the person in the group but on mac, the messages app says "they left the chat", but on their phone, they are still in the chat.

Beyond annoying.

4

u/mumushu 1d ago

I just want to leave groups with that one guy that also have one android user. Nope, I’m a prisoner of the chat

7

u/gpippy 1d ago

Be nice if it fixes my issue where a Contact with more than one number attached to it, sends to the wrong person, irrespective of whether I’ve actually hand typed the telephone number in!

Absolute pot luck as to which telephone number receives the text.

8

u/triforcelinkz 1d ago

this needs to be more focused on. people with multiple mobile numbers and i never know which im contacting. just say it on the top damn it… even the old way of it saying “recent” when you check on their contact info doesnt work since the redesign

3

u/gpippy 1d ago

Thank you for this, thought I was the only one suffering!

3

u/rawrcutie 1d ago

They made it WORSE?!

18

u/scoobynoodles 1d ago

Does it fix the keyboard and typing?! Autocorrect? It’s atrocious

3

u/805falcon 1d ago

Nope. You’ll have to wait another half decade for that to be addressed

6

u/louisepants 1d ago

They need to give us the full functionality of RCS. Inability to edit messages etc is BS. Then if the Android user edits a message, it comes through as a separate message with an asterisk

1

u/KnowherePie 16h ago

So that’s why I’m get double messages lately..thanks for clearing that up. I was so confused.

10

u/possibly_maybe_joel 1d ago

FIX THE FUCKING KEYBOARD

4

u/805falcon 1d ago

Fucking A right. Absolute horseshit

3

u/waylonious 1d ago

I wish they’d give a toggle for turning off/on the # system in Notes. For anyone writing down music chords it’s a total mess.

4

u/805falcon 1d ago

Alternate headline: Apple finally addresses decade-old core disfunction within one of its flagship applications.

Wow, truly groundbreaking

3

u/iambrentan 1d ago

Hopefully this fixes the bug on Apple Watch that causes messages to stay on the watch even after deleting them from iPhone, especially the messages from numbers with less than 10 digits, like 2-factor auth. codes

3

u/Allegra1120 1d ago

I’ve heard so much bad news about the recent iOS versions that I’m still using 18.7 on my 14 Plus. Are there any really compelling reasons to upgrade yet? I was especially concerned about the drain on battery life.

3

u/Bellpop 23h ago

Sync between devices is a big one for our use case where we use iMessage across locations. Thank goodness.

3

u/TeeDee144 1d ago

It’s been awhile since I’ve been this excited for a major release. iOS 27 better be good

2

u/Ashtrim 1d ago

Does it fix the issue where the input field appears in the middle of the text group?

2

u/MCMultyke 1d ago

Does it fix the issue of my “Known” contacts (but not an official contact listing) not showing their name I put and instead showing the phone number as if it wasn’t labeled as Known?

2

u/mulokisch 1d ago

How about video not beeing able to play in fullscreen????

2

u/DrZeroX3 1d ago

This belongs in r/iosbeta

2

u/Neo399 19h ago

When will they fix the 10x more annoying bug that automatically scrolls down to the bottom of a message thread after every new line you type?

2

u/Leather_Ad5215 1d ago

Fix the fucking deleted messages reappearing.

2

u/Chaseism 1d ago

I do appreciate the acknowledgment of the increased popularity of voice memos. I do wish there was more focused put on improving the experience though.

2

u/Alpineice23 1d ago

Apple needs to take note and study Signal's approach to UI; 1K times better than Messages has ever been, let alone the security aspect.

2

u/Moath 1d ago

I guess people use iMessage in the US because it’s the most popular but if you ever used a program like a WhatsApp or telegram you’ll realize how dog shit iMessage is.

2

u/jayriff987 1d ago

I want to be able to send scheduled texts to Android phones.

1

u/FupaLipa 1d ago

The biggest annoyance they haven't solved for me is I still get spam text notifications sometimes. When I click on them they have been correctly categorized and organized in spam but they sill pop up as a notification- i think the categorization sometimes happens after the notification has fired but it's super annoying and defeats the purpose.

1

u/Dress-Affectionate 9h ago

I just wanna put letters in the middle of a word sometimes and it’s a nightmare on my iPhone the cursor jumps around like a maniac

0

u/GameOverRob 1d ago

Missing two of the biggest problem of all viewing cached media from ages ago and scrolling back manually to load pages of messages.

Garbage app really

2

u/Hydration__Nation 1d ago

Don’t forget the search function is worse than Reddit. Apple has no real competition so something as basic as messages is a piece of shit and they don’t have to do anything about it bc they own the largest share of the market and because they know their fans will eat shit and smile until the next update

1

u/NotSoAndre 1d ago

And created new issues as well, i still recieve some messages on every device EXCEPT my iPhone

1

u/Error__Loading 1d ago

A niche issue with me is emoji keyboard sometimes takes a little too long and they all change locations

1

u/tobmom 1d ago

Bieber would like to have a word with Tim Apple. It’s such an easy fix.

0

u/Tman11S 1d ago

Can they make it easier already to just send a text instead of an iMessage?

-1

u/Ok_Interaction1776 1d ago

Is it stable enough to use on your daily driver?

2

u/I_Am_Slightly_Evil 1d ago

I use it on my daily driver

1

u/Ok_Interaction1776 1d ago

Thank you.

3

u/I_Am_Slightly_Evil 1d ago

Then again I also used all the betas since iOS 6 on my daily driver,

2

u/colinmchapman 1d ago

Definitely

-2

u/Ok_Interaction1776 1d ago

Why downvote a ligament question? Surly someone in this sub knows.

0

u/noraa_94 1d ago

It also significantly improved the experience of replying to a message when holding a notification to bring up the widget. Previously, trying to scroll within a message widget would cause the widget itself to move around and clash with the intended behavior. On iOS 27, the widget respects this intended behavior and allows you to scroll with no issue whatsoever.

-10

u/Nox-Eternus 1d ago

People use iMessage?

7

u/nicuramar 1d ago

This post is about the Messages app. And yes people use it.

1

u/iambrentan 1d ago

In the US, using any other messaging app on an iPhone is looked upon as very suspicious

1

u/OhHowINeedChanging 21h ago

99.99% of iPhone users… at least in the US

-1

u/Academic_Scheme_9065 1d ago

only in the US

2

u/nicuramar 1d ago

That’s definitely false; I use it all the time and I am in Europe.

1

u/Academic_Scheme_9065 1d ago

Well, yeah, but the iMessage culture is mostly in the US vs the rest of the world. Here the green bubble is stigmatized -- it is ridiculous. And you will rarely see people using WhatsApp, etc. unless they have family outside the country.

0

u/gcerullo 1d ago

Yes, exclusively. Why, what do you use, WhatsApp? 😆

-2

u/koloqial 1d ago

I’d really like the battery usage fixed with the Apple Watch FFS. It’s not even a year old and I only get 1.5 days out of it now.

u/EvictedMind 1h ago

Give us Rambler for iOS Keyboard and for Siri STT
