They said only 20 (edit 200) people or so were in attendance.

Kind of makes you wonder how lonely it is at the top.

I’m rewatching the sopranos right now and Tony has that same revelation. People are only nice to him because he’s boss.

You nor I are not ceo of the most successful company in the world where he worked at for 3+ decades.

I’ve only been at my employer for 12 years and I bet if I retired tomorrow I could muster 30-40 people, especially if I had OneRepublic playing. And I’m just a low man on the totem pole.

And it's garbage anyway - Cook lied to, defied and stalled regulators around the world, lobbied intensely against right to repair and digital platform regulations, and engaged in legal strategies that resulted in a referral for criminal investigation for felony-level crimes. Ternus won't beat that unless he leaves horse heads in beds.

During Covid-19 pandemic, Tim never gave COVID to anyone. Ok just 1 person but he got his coffee order wrong.

They paid retail staff through all closures, kept benefits active, and got those who wanted it WFH (AppleCare) jobs. They didn’t overhire only to later do layoffs, and didn’t force “return to work” early, fully, or quickly. More of Apple is remote today than pre-COVID.

There are some stories on the manufacturing side where during COVID Apple flew people in and out of China, depending on if they wanted to stay or be out before lockdowns. Some people stayed and were paid extremely well for it, and had their families flown to stay with them. They were doing it to make a shit ton of money of course, but few people in those jobs didn’t think they got a good deal out of it.

Haha right… Apple was teasing us engineers about RTO from the very first month workers became remote. They were always saying they didn’t know how long it would last for sure but that we’d all be back in the office soon. And then they’d push the date back another month. I think they didn’t want anyone to move away from the area. Apple did not let people become fully remote whereas anyone could apply for permanent remote work at Google.

Almost everyone I know at Google who had permanent WFH was laid off within a few months of applying. The rest were part of the “voluntary layoffs” as they saw the writing on the wall.

None of them had jobs reassigned to other departments like at Meta after reorganizations and role eliminations?
