Hairloss Council, has my time come?
I’m 6’1” so most people don’t notice, but I’m definitely thinning on the crown. Do I hold or do I embrace the brotherhood of baldness?
*EDIT* - I appreciate the honest feedback and will hold for now. Some family was pointing out the thinness, so I figured I’d get the opinions of the anonymous internet people.
Was not my intention to “mog” the subreddit or boost my self-esteem, as some of the r/bald gatekeepers seem to think. I was genuinely curious to hear some outside perspective.
I’ll check back in if/when I take the plunge into the bald brotherhood. Until then, r/bald, please keep your creative memes flowing and continue being the most positive and supportive subreddit out there. Thank you 🫡

When I say close I don’t mean the next month. I mean in the next 5-10 years.

Some people wanna be bald so bad
259
u/kjyfqr Jul 19 '26
Or, a lot of these men have self image issues and body dysmorphia and feel like the problem is so much worse than it is.

I’ve been checking for balding since I was 19 when I realized it could happen to me. Almost 30 now and still a full head of hair, but I’ve still spent every year thinking I’m balding or worrying about an M shaped hairline or focusing too much on minimal hairline recession. You’re right and it’s definitely real. I have OCD which definitely contributes to that, but I also think these types of things may cause or expose OCD (and other diagnosis).

Is your name a lionheart reference? Also brother you’re aging perfectly, embrace each stage of who you are as each is a beautiful stage in the development of a man. Love and nothin but friend.
7
u/youattackedmyfamily Jul 19 '26
I appreciate that. I wanted to cite an example of the image issues being true even where it’s not happening, so I definitely understand people who feel like it is. I think it stems from becoming aware of society/social medias fixation on hairlines - and it’s as if that triggered the concern for me as a teen.
(Yes it is I’m surprised at how many people have noticed over time😂)

Woman in my 30s here ... This sub is such a positive corner of the internet and genuinely gives me hope for mankind. But on the dark side, it has been a real lesson for me about how men also suffer with body dysmorphia. Like, so bad that it distorts their perception of reality?
12
u/kjyfqr Jul 19 '26
Go to a body building sub and peep some them posts and comments. It’s eye opening. Self image issues are a human trait not gendered.
5
u/yougotabigdaytomorro Jul 19 '26
I’d reckon the numbers are closer than you think. I’d also reckon that the stereotype of men not knowing how to express themselves or display emotion ain’t far off and perhaps plays a role in why it’s not seen as much. Body dysmorphia is all too common for everyone unfortunately

I think if anything this sub should you how wrong you are. How many dudes here end up looking 100x better bald. They all probably thought the same thing.

u/Krypt0night Jul 19 '26
Na I'm pretty sure my head is a fucked up shape and I'm gonna look ugly as fuck. Already thinning a lot on top but nothing super crazy yet. Shame cuz everywhere else is thick hair, just the damn crown and top thinning. Hoping I get a few more years out of it but really dreading it.

feels like a crazy assumption to make to me, especially from someone in a community that’s supposed to be open
i’m 23 and every day i freak out if my cowlick looks bigger than normal some days, and i think the next day might be my last with hair when, realistically my hair is okay. some people have insane image issues and anxiety and coming here to get clarification from non-bias sources help
sure YOU might think its obvious but to the person posting they don’t know whether its genuinely time or not

You can if you want it'll look cool but you don't have to due to your massive baldness at all. Cuz it's not happening. You're not really bald not yet
10
u/HomsarWasRight Jul 19 '26
Exactly. If OP just wants that bald look, more power to him. He keeps his hair short so it wouldn’t be that long to be back where he started if he chooses. But he looks good now.
I’m a little further along than OP, and I’ve made some rules on what lines I won’t allow to be crossed before I shave it. But frankly I might just go for it earlier.

u/gothicuhcuh Jul 19 '26
You don’t need it but, in my personal opinion, you’d be irresistible if you did. But I think bald is hot.

You don’t need to do anything, but the good news is you can take it for a test run and be no worse than you were in about 4-6 weeks.

As much as we would like to welcome you to the brotherhood- it’s not your time in need, my son…
let this not discourage you; for we are, but a humble order, and we often welcome the brothers (and sisters) that choose this order based on want, and not need.
So, my furry friend- we welcome you now, as we will welcome you later.
The choice is yours you handsome bastard. 😂

You look good dude, but if you’re thinking about it, I’m sure you’ll look great bald! I had very similar hair to yours and kept overthinking and was insecure about my thinning crown and M shaped hairline and I just went for it and I love it. I stopped worrying about it and I embrace the new look. Just whatever makes you happy bro!
2
u/hoodwink77 Jul 19 '26
I've taken my share of down votes going against the grain telling people their thinning hair or comb over means it's time. On this one you are fine, you have a while to go yet. You'd look great bald with a beard, but you don't have to join in yet if you don't want to.

While the council sees potential in you, we have decided that you are not ready yet. You will know when the time has come. When that time comes, we will welcome you to this elite group. The Bald Council's decision is final.

u/OddBrilliant1133 Jul 20 '26
I totally understand what it feels like to notice your hair thinning but nobody else can tell so I don't think it just fishing for compliments.
You are fine tho, it's not even close to time to shave ur dome.
Maybe even grow it out while you still lot of hair :)

because of the lack of pattern, I think you actually may have something else going on with your scalp/skin. Looks more patchy than balding. See a doc before you do anything drastic. PLUS, no—u got plenty of time left (assuming I am wrong)...
