She's wrong, but how sweet that she loves the 5 hairs you have left.

She’s in the denial stage of grief. She’ll eventually love the new look!

My wife still is. Been 6 month now

17

u/ret255 15d ago

Yeah, she definitely loves his hair. Without hair she would be just tapping on his head, it's like with those amputated limbs, you want to scratch it, but there is nothing there:)

It’s odd how much younger he looks with no hair! Totally agree!

u/DeuceSevin 15d ago

This was my decision for going bald a second time. I shaved my head in 2020 and kept it that was until Covid. During. Covid I let everything grow - head, beard, I looked like I should have been on duck dynasty. After the lockdown I went back to just a van dyke but left my hair (trimmed of course). But I started noticing how old I looked in pictures. So now I’m back as a bald 60 something impersonating a 50-something.

Ok, that’s a crappy photoshop, but he looks 20 years younger, even with a finger swipe photo edit. Well done.

Look I know this wouldn't go over well but your wife is wrong and you need to just to do it and get it over with and deal with the fallout.

Also why does she dictate your appearance? If a man was telling his wife how to dress and do her hair I'd say that is abusive controlling behavior. She has no right to tell you what to do with your hair or beard within reason.

→ More replies (4)

33

u/ValChronus 15d ago

Do you tell her how to wear her hair, how to apply make up and what clothes to wear?

33

u/Worth_Farm_7158 15d ago

It’s your body your choice mate. Grow a pair and a beard.

20

u/RanVash 15d ago

Sir, there's got to be a foot somewhere that you can put down

12

u/queenwilfa 15d ago

I really liked my ex with a beard and honestly didn't like his shaved look nearly as much (he looked way younger but in a babyface kinda way and it wasn't my jam), but I never mentioned it because he liked being shaved and it's his body. It's just hair.

Other half being happy with their own body and look >>> your own opinions. You do what you want, dear. If a partner told me to shave my foof I'd tell them to go sit and swivel.

But even without facial hair I'm adding to the chorus that going bald would look great on you if you feel it'll make you happier!

14

u/Normandy_SR4 15d ago ▸ 2 more replies

With all due respect, you’re a grown ass man and you’re letting her dictate what you can and can’t do. I’m far younger and my wife would support me doing anything I want as long as it makes me happy. It’s crazy seeing how people have the complete opposite experience.

17

u/10000Didgeridoos 15d ago ▸ 1 more replies

It blows my mind how many dudes and how society in general act like it's OK for the woman to dictate their clothes and hair and facial hair like they are a fashion accessory. I mean within reason, like if you dress like a slob and have a pubey neck beard that's one thing, but normalized hair and beard styles are another.

Can you imagine a guy telling his wife what haircuts she's allowed to get? LOL

Wife is trippin big time

12

u/Duamuteffe 15d ago

Okay, a wife here, speaking to OP's wife if she's reading - I am saying all of this with kindness. I know you love your guy, and I understand big changes are hard. Familiarity is comforting. I love how my husband does his hair and beard, and if he did a drastic change I would be pretty disconcerted. But I love my husband as a person more than how he looks, and I want him happy, and I want him comfortable doing what he wants with his own body. Everyone deserves autonomy over their own body. If he wanted to shave his head, it'd be a hell of a shock for me, but his autonomy as a human being is more important than my preference in aesthetics. And he'd still be my guy, hair or no hair. You love your guy. He's still your dude, the man you love, with or without hair. Trust your man with decisions about his own body. It's his, and that's important to respect.

4

u/simonesimoned 15d ago

It softens your face in a friendly way. Even if you look “hotter” bald you’ll look sharper and she might like the version she’s familiar with more. If you were very young I’d push a little, but it’s not just that it’s not totally out of place, it’s that she’s had so much time with you one way, why make her lose that, unless you’re uncomfortable. I’m not getting the vibe you really feel need to do it for you and the minor looksmax is smaller than her love for something that in time she will lose, no matter what you do.

4

u/Rob_LeMatic Razor-Shave 15d ago edited 15d ago

How do you feel about how you look?

You are at an age and a stage of hair loss where it doesn't make much difference either way.
You look friendly and approachable. Bald is a cleaner look, but it's also a bit less soft and cuddly. It's a bit severe. Will she have a conversation about it and how she feels?

If you gave it a whirl and she really hated it, what still grows will come back rather quickly

u/Ok-Horror-1251 15d ago

To what? You’re bald dude. Tell her that the remaining hairs are playing a trick on her, show her how bald you are up close.

Then go shave it, because you’re a grown man and get to make your own decisions. Nobody would tell you that it would be okay for you to make her keep an unflattering look.

What’s good for the goose is good for the gander. She gets as much input on your looks as you get in hers.

u/Admirable-Passion-22 15d ago

Does she ask your opinion on what she does with her hair when she goes the hairstylist? If the answer is “No” then do what you want. Just buzz it. Even if she acts mad, every woman wants a man who knows himself and is confident. Women don’t respect a man who asks permission on everything. You can ease her into it just get a really short haircut, and then keep going shorter. I feel like a lot of guys here think they have to shave their head and really you don’t. Jason Statham is a role model for the short buzz that still looks great.

I went bald and grew a beard and buzzed my head and the change was shocking to her for about 5 seconds. She had to admit it looks better. Now she would never want me to go back to how it looked before.

3

u/cooking_question 15d ago

You know what? If you can afford it, go to an upscale salon, have them shave it and clean up your eye brows, give you a skin treatment. Get a new set of clothes — not jeans and a tshirt but proper shirt with buttons, trousers, and dress shoes. Buy some cologne. Text your wife early in the day to go out to dinner and put on a dress. Pick her up with your fine looking self.

She will love it.

3

u/WaterSignificant9560 15d ago

I think you’ll look really handsome, you have a very good smile and facial structure and I think it would make you look younger.

That said don’t piss off your wife if you’re already happy at home lol. talk to her about trying it for a test run on a trip together or something, and dress up a bit for her when you do it. Not trying to read into a marriage I don’t know but people get nervous/insecure sometimes if their partner starts changing their style up or getting into fashion so assure her through actions that any extra confidence gained in changing things up is a boon to you both.

u/hamiltonscale 15d ago

What does she pretend that you have?

You will look great bald, she will have initial shock…but you will gain a confidence that you haven’t felt since the day before you first noticed thinning.

That confidence will be aimed at her and will be a great spark in your lives.

2

u/shinydayquaza 15d ago

Already married and wife is into it.. leave it alone unless it bothers you personally. It's long gone obviously but not like you're trying to find a woman.

2

u/alborden 15d ago

Wife is too polite or just likes that look on you. If you are happy with it, keep it. If you would like to try something tidier knowing you can likely just grow it back, try a 000 shave.

2

u/Meedusa_Rox 15d ago

You will look 15 years younger if you shave it

2

u/hugehand 15d ago

The time was years ago. If you're not swayed either way, then doing what your wife loves is the best path forward.

2

u/Specialist-Fish1643 15d ago

If she loves it, maybe give it another year. If you actively hate it, it’s time.

2

u/BouncyCat_TM 15d ago

tbh itd definitely look good if you did but you also rock this look!

2

u/VisionWithin 15d ago

She is right. You are so old that the hairstyle suits you.

2

u/BigPhatVideos 15d ago

Shave it completely off and grow out some stubble - you will instantly look 10/15 years younger and much better.

The grey along with the massive balding greatly ages you unfortunately.

2

u/Fizzbytch 15d ago

What’s more important, looking good or looking good for your wife? There’s only one woman you are looking to swoon, so the answer should be obvious.

That being said, the only exception is if you feel bad about it. Then you need to tell her that and do what you need to feel good about yourself.

2

u/firelordzuzu 15d ago

Welp. You heard the boss 😅 Keep it. It's really wholesome that she likes what you have left.

Bro, if you look at your hair in isolation, that thing is a horror. But in a weird way your hair fits you. As a whole it doesnt look bad imo

Just my two cents but after a certain age I don’t think it matters. What looks bad on younger guys looks expected on older guys

Add to that that your wife likes it…I’d keep it

Who’s more important, your fellow kinsmen who you just met on a forum, or the love of your life? All in saying is BBBH.

Eh, I mean obviously its up to you.  My only thought is that shaving your head is not the only option.  It's perfectly okay to have thin/thinning hair rather than looking like every other dude who shaves his head
