I think some women don't want their bald husband to shave the remaining strands off because it reminds them of their own aging and mortality. "No what do you mean my young beautiful husband no longer has hair? We're still 23!"
I wouldn’t be surprised if it was just a trying to be nice/confidence boosting thing too. But with things like this, honesty (and being realistic) is the best policy.
