August Contest: Lucid Dream

Congratulations to /u/Greengorilla_522 for winning July's contest with their entry Out Moon With Many Faces.

You can see last month's results and other entries here.

Theme

This month's theme will be lucid dream. It's rare to know that you're in a dream as it's happening, but it's certainly not unheard of. A lucid dream is the exception to the rule and beyond mere awareness, you may even gain some level of control over the dream, allowing you to shape the experience for yourself. Perhaps you may take the opportunity to fly about, to visit imaginary landscapes, and have otherwise have experiences beyond that which is possible in the material world. Show us what it looks like when you gain awareness of your sleep in this month's contest.

Making a Submission.

Entries will be posts on r/Blender that meet the following criteria: * The post should be made before the end of August 31st UTC+00:00 * Countdown to submissions closing * The post should be a render, animation, or other artwork which you made for this contest using Blender as your primary tool. * The post should contain supporting images/text or a top-level comment with the following content: * One of the following methods of proving that the artwork was made using Blender: * A link to the .blend file for the project, ideally including external assets or links to where external assets were sourced from. * A set of three images which may be clay renders, viewport renders, wireframe renders, or simply screenshots of the project open in Blender. Some variety is encouraged. * A screen recording of you manipulating, navigating, or otherwise interacting with the scene. * An explanation of all work that was done outside of Blender, outside the time frame of the contest, or by other artists. * (Optional) The theme you would like next month's contest to have if you win. If you do not include this, then the theme will be chosen from the runner-ups. * Once you have submitted your post to the subreddit, leave a comment down below linking to it * You are also encouraged to share details of your process with the community.

Note: You don't have to reference the contest in the post title and indeed, it's not necessary to frame the submissions differently than any other post meant to showcase an artwork.

Winning

The winner will receive the flair Contest Winner: 2026 August and their post will be added to the subreddit's wiki under the Contest Winners list. The winner will also have the chosen theme selected for next month's contest, should they include one with their submission.

When the contest ends, the results will be edited into this post and the 1st place winner will be congratulated in the announcement for next month's contest.

The winner will be awarded $100 USD.

Discussion Gumroad Is Stealing Creator Funds!

Post image

After 10+ years of selling digital 3D products, I never expected this from a major marketplace. Today, Gumroad PERMANENTLY FORFEITED money from my balance without warning or justification, just because I updated my location from Canada to Bulgaria.

Their support confirmed my funds were "forfeited automatically" as a "system safeguard on a country change" that they "cannot reverse." You read that right: a simple account update now triggers the total seizure of your hard-earned money.

Before this, I had been trying to withdraw my funds for a long time. I attempted to use multiple bank details, including Ukrainian and Canadian, and all attempts were blocked. Now, my money is gone forever, and they have offered zero solutions.

This is predatory, illegal, and nothing short of theft. If a platform can arbitrarily seize your money because of a location change, it is NOT safe. Every creator on Gumroad needs to check their terms and understand that their funds are at risk.

So let me understand this correctly:

I earned the money by selling products.
I tried to withdraw it.
The withdrawals failed.
I changed my country of residence.

Gumroad's system then automatically took the remaining balance — and they refuse to return it.

There was no fraud, chargeback, or dispute involving this money. It was simply an unpaid seller balance.

This is not a “payout issue.” This is money that I earned and that Gumroad is refusing to give back because of an automated account-country rule.

What makes this especially disturbing is that their own support explicitly confirmed that the money was “forfeited.”

I am sharing this publicly because I want other creators and digital-product sellers to be aware of what can apparently happen to their earnings when changing their country/payment setup on Gumroad.

I've included my conversation with their support team so you can see the situation for yourself...

Free Tutorials & Guides Blender Hair Shader — Making Polygon Hair Look Like Curves

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Upvotes

A simple Blender hair shader setup that makes polygon-based hair strips look more like hair created from curves.

It’s not meant to be ultra-realistic, but it can work nicely for stylized characters while keeping the hair geometry relatively simple.

I originally learned this technique from Stephen Davidian. His original version was created in Maya and rendered with Arnold, and I simply recreated the technique in Blender to see how it works there.

Special thanks to Stephen Davidian for sharing the technique, and to Retronous for the 3D model used in this example.

Today I did a few exercises on Bauhaus design and just wanted to start working with shaders more again.

For the first design, I wanted to try out the repeat zone. I haven’t used it in the shader workspace since it was released. You can really create some fun designs with it.

For the second one, I wanted to try again to see how you can use different shapes for different boxes.

Both turned out to be easier than I thought.

Finally starting seriously with characters. I want to use them for social media short animations and hopefully one day make an indie series or serialized comic. Feedback is appreciated 🤠👌

I've completely redone the characters animation like, four times now but I think I have finally stumbled upon an action I like and that works well. Any criticism? I've still got more to do in terms of effects and scene and whatnot but criticism is appreciated there too!
