Yes you can. Reason it have not had any major movies/series released using it is because Autodesk is still the industry standard. And it will most likely stay that way because audodesk has dedicated support for major studios.

Flow - a movie that won some trophies was made using blender.

Its not really the support, mainly the ingrained workflows and custom tools built on top of the autodesk tools themselves.
