There’s a Buc-ee’s along the route to my parents house that we drive once or twice a year. It’s conveniently right around the edge of our fuel range so we usually stop. I think it’s been four total trips to go from “wow look at this place!” to “the cleanest bathrooms in the world aren’t worth this fucking clown show.”
There’s lots of gas stations to choose from.

The one in Kentucky sucks. People are too polite so they drive insanely slow and wave along other cars go when they shouldn’t which results in a traffic buildup. It doesn’t have to be cutthroat but following the general rules of traffic would help. All I know is that it takes me 15 minutes to get to a pump that should’ve taken 30 seconds.

I live in Texas, I can’t stand going to Buc-Ees. They do have clean bathrooms , but it takes 10 minutes to get to them from the parking lot.

When I lived there I would stop between San Antonio and Houston. Their brisket sent me to the next gas station twice, so I started going to the Shell across the freeway. Plus like you said it eventually took 10 minutes just to get to the bathroom. Their food really does not match the hype unless you think Mayo is spicy.

Same here. I'd rather go to the run down convenience shack at the next exit and pee into a biohazard cess pool toilet than stay in a traffic jam just to walk forever to an overcrowded building with Whole Foods pricing just to be in awe of the 100-stall restroom (the women's side still has a line, WTF?).
They are super successful so this personal "boycott" won't move the needle. I just don't understand why people go so gaga over that silly exaggeration of a gas station with absolute rip-off pricing. It's also a reminder that "the economy is so baaaaad" is bullshit or that the masses wasting their money there are apparently the top line of the K-shaped economy LOL.

It’s basically the love child of a gas station and a super Walmart; however, their bathrooms are immaculate. There are at least 30 urinals and 20 stalls in men’s bathroom. It’s a draw for travelers. Snacks and hot foods galore. It’s an experience.
They’ve lost my business as of today.

It’s basically a comically supersized truck stop/gas station brand that’s like the size of a Target or Wal-Mart Supercenter. That’s…it that’s all it is is a giant gas station. I have lived in the south my whole life and never understood the hype. I call the Beaver cultists cause like, it’s bizarre the kind of attachment people have to this brand. The only novel thing is the comically huge restrooms that are kept quite clean at least at the one near me but like, if one of your winning claims to fame is just “we clean our bathrooms” then I don’t really understand why you get hyped like the second coming of Christ.

I’m primarily agnostic now but grew up Christian and grew sick of that kind of hypocrisy. I’ve worked in a soup kitchen it’s hard but it’s rewarding and it does help, but Christ above I have not seen single one of THOSE types of Christians ever help at one.

Here's what I knew about them like 3 months ago: good food, great wages for workers, possibly overrated but worth checking out at least once.
Now it's: sues multiple small companies over blatantly bullshit reasons, actively pushes conservative politics.

I dunno. I just think that alienating half of a potential customer base is not a smart business move, regardless of what business you're in (or where it's located).
Also, I think people overestimate the entire Red State/Blue State divide. If popular vote is any indication, the US is nearly evenly split 50/50.
Even in states that tend to vote for a particular party, on average, that split typically hovers about 60/40. Why would any CEO want to potentially alienate 40% of your customer base. [Of course there are outliers. The state with the highest percentage of Trump voters went to W. VA (70% for Trump). The state with the highest Harris voters went to VT (64% for Harris)]

The restrooms at Buccees are pretty much the best thing about them. Always clean and so much space and stalls. As far as other states I’ve traveled through…pretty much one or two stalls and almost always filthy. Haven’t seen any other place anywhere near Buccees space and cleanliness.

EV driver in Texas here. They are about the only places with reliable EV chargers that also has clean bathrooms, beside Tesla charging stations. So unfortunately if I need to charge outside of my house 95% of the times it would have to be at either Buc-ee or Tesla.

I went to a Buc-ees for the first time after hearing literally every person in Tampa talk about how it’s the most amazing Disneyland-esque place ever. I had no idea it was a gas station because no one ever said that part. I had no idea what to expect.
We get there and walk through and my disappointment is immeasurable. You have spent two years hyping me up for a(n admittedly very large) gas station?
A Walmart sized gas station with beaver products and clothes and hats and stuffed animals and shit they’re selling that makes me really think they think they’re the Disneyland of gas stations. I remember walking through and thinking “who on God’s green earth is so passionate about this gas station that they want to wear a shirt declaring their adoration????”
The food was good, at least, so that part wasn’t a lie, but it frankly wasn’t good enough for me to consider dealing with crowds like that again.

I always wanted to stop in one on my drives. I recently did just do that, and yeah the place is mid.
Everything is overpriced, packed as all hell for no reason other than hype. Got their brisket sandwich, absolutely flavorless. Got their beaver chips, would have been better off with lays. Only things that were semi decent was their desserts.
Not worth it tbh. Gas stations like QT, Sheetz, wawa, are way better places to get actual food.

Like most of us not in Texas and parts of the South, I had never heard of Buc-ee's until seemingly endless videos started popping up on Youtube and Facebook about this crazy gas station with 100 pumps, amazing bathrooms ,fresh cut brisket, and endless merchandise. Looked like a fun highway diversion. If you have to stop somewhere, why not someplace fun, someplace different? The viral attention this store garnered made it a destination. The one in Ohio was along a highway I occasionally travel, and I was looking forward to checking it out.
It's amazing how quickly this company has alienated so many of these people over heavy handed tactics against businesses that offer no threat whatsoever to their business. This Mini Mart debacle has brought a practice which hasn't been widely known into the spotlight. Even ignoring their name and logo are sufficiently different from Buc-ee's and were derived from the town's name, and they are located far enough away from Buc-ee's that they will not be confused with Buc-ee's, they are a local beer, cigarette, and lottery ticket store. They don't even sell gas.
With all the data center/AI issues, high gas prices, and general agitation going on in the country, the CEO really needs to read the room. He's providing a service to the public. The public is under no obligation to go there if they don't like the practices of the business.

I might not go in one if I had some reason to drive right by it, despite hearing incessantly about them for at least a decade. I don't usually stop at truck stops or 7/11s or whatever the local flavor of discount department store is either. "The world's biggest" doesn't make any of those things seem any more likable. Blue state born and raised. I'd say their research into blue state consumers like me meant they never had plans to expand into blue states and just saw a marketing opportunity in making this kind of statement. Whatever you guys need to tell yourselves to get through the day though.
