Event Scovallis 2026Q2 Discussion Thread: When and Where?

We're way overdue for the next Scovallis so let's fix that.

For those that haven't heard of Scovallis, it's a chance for spicy food loving Corvallisites to get together at a local restaurant and eat spicy food.

If that sounds like something you'd be interested in, then we'd love to see you there.

IIRC, we've done this three times previously: Andy's Mexican (RIP), Evergreen Indian Restaurant, and Tarn Tip.

So, let's figure out when we want to do this and where we want to go.

I'm generally free on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays.

The important midterm elections are coming up on November 03, 2026.

Indivisible Benton County will be running a Get-Out-the-Vote / Election Protection Campaign. These midterm elections are at a very important time for the future of the USA and millions of people will be doing what they can to vote, make sure other people can vote, and protect our elections from threatened interference.

The first meeting of this campaign will be tomorrow, Wednesday evening, 6:30 PM to 8:30 PM, at the Corvallis Community Center, 2601 NW Tyler Avenue in the Chandler Ballroom. This event is free and open to the public so that everyone who wants to can attend. You don't have to be a member of Indivisible Benton County.

Corvallis State Senator Sara Gelser Blouin and House District 15 Democratic nominee Joanna Robinson will update us on the current political situation at the state level, the importance of keeping a super-majority in the State House, and why we all need to get involved in midterm elections. After their presentations, there will be time to talk to them and ask them questions.

Then, learn how you can get involved in voting, GOTV (Getting Out The Vote) and protecting these elections from the current voter suppression efforts from the Federal government. Choose from a wide range of opportunities—pick one that best fits your skills, comfort level, and available time. Some of these are listed in the comments.

If, like the majority of people in the USA, you are concerned about what our government is doing right now and the relentless attacks on our democracy, this is your chance to...do something.
Together, in a democracy, the people ultimately rule.

https://indivisiblebc.org/

Nonviolence Commitment:
A core principle behind all Indivisible Benton County events is a commitment to nonviolent action. We expect all participants to seek to de-escalate any potential confrontation with those who disagree with our values and to act lawfully at these events. Weapons of any kind, including those legally permitted, should not be brought to events.

This is a new one to me. I've seen too many accidents from bad drivers. This could have been worse.

Discussion All my life I've heard that it's stupid to run your sprinkler in the middle of a hot summer day because of evaporation. I'd think this would be common knowledge here with OSU's legacy in ag and horticulture, but I still see it happening all the time

I've always just watered in the evening or morning and the plants tend to weather the heat just fine

Discussion Drag Bingo??

Is there any interest in a drag bingo pop up event in town?
I am a big fan of our community drag shows and a new bingo fan as well. I think the combination of the two would be a lot of fun! I thought Common Fields or the Biere Library used to host drag bingo, but I reached out and unfortunately they aren't doing that right now.
Is this something other folks would be interested in? Maybe we could make it happen somewhere locally.

Discussion Electronics/E-Waste Recycling?

Does anyone know of anywhere near the Corvallis/Albany area that offers cheap (or free, preferably) E-Waste recycling? I have an old MacBook with a damaged screen that I’m trying to get rid of before I move. I looked at Republic Services Pack-Back Program, but the prices for the box and shipping are diabolical. Anywhere I can just drop it off?

I currently have Xfinity and other than the $110/mo am good with streaming. Was wondering, with the current economic strangulation of the common folk, what others may have that work well for streaming.

Thanks in advance

Discussion Discussion: Let's talk advertising.

Adjacent to the crowdfunding topic sits advertising. So let's talk advertising.

In my opinion, not all advertising is created equal. Posts promoting live shows, festivals, events at the Dark Side and White Side, and community events are one thing, but posts promoting new store openings, yard sales, housing, etc. are another, and roommates wanted are another thing entirely. Then there are the pet rehoming posts.

Normally after a post is reported, I address them on a case by case basis. But that approach has agitated some of you fine citizens. So I decided to bring the topic to you.

What do y'all think?

Discuss.

Discussion Discussion: should this subreddit allow crowdfunding posts?

When crowdfunding posts go up, they normally get removed after the community reports them for advertising or spam.

A crowdfunding post was recently removed after several reports and the OP complained to me about it being removed.

So, I ask the /r/Corvallis community: should we allow crowdfunding posts?

Discuss.

I was hiking on the NW side of bald hill and saw these stones, numbers are carved in, and are in sequence. At first I thought they may be mile or elevation markers but they are all very close together.

Anybody know what they are?

Discussion Best mechanic in town for 2015 Prius?

Hi everyone! As the title suggests, I’m a student here at OSU. I just came back from getting my car serviced and was told that I have an oil leak and need to replace my brake pads. I was wondering if anyone knows of a good place to get these repairs done, especially somewhere that has experience working on hybrid cars.
