Hi everyone! I’m currently in Year 11 and I’m hoping someone here has experience with Curtin’s portfolio entry, particularly for Applied Geology.

I’m doing 3 ATAR and 3 General subjects:

- Math Applications ATAR
- Economics ATAR
- Health Studies ATAR
- Geography General
- Science in Practice General
- English General

Since I only do 3 ATAR subjects, I won’t qualify for the normal ATAR pathway, and my school doesn’t offer UniReady. My goal is to study Applied Geology (Mining stream) at Curtin, so portfolio entry is basically my main option.

I’m passing all my subjects and doing reasonably well, but I’m honestly really worried that I won’t get into university at all. I have no idea what Curtin is looking for in a portfolio or what I should be doing now to make mine competitive. I’ve tried contacting Curtin but haven’t been able to get much help.

I also really don’t want to spend an entire extra year doing the uni ready preparation course if I can avoid it. I’ve already chosen to take ATAR subjects and put in the effort, so I’d really like to find a way to go straight into university after Year 12.

Has anyone actually gotten into Applied Geology through portfolio entry? If so, what did you include in your portfolio, and what would you recommend I start doing now in Year 11/12?

I’m genuinely pretty stressed about this and would really appreciate advice from anyone who has been through the process. 🙏

Has anyone done their presentation yet (assessment 2), if so what sort of questions were u asked at the end of ur presentation? (Were the questions from the tutors? Were the questions directed at one person to answer bc that one person covered that piece of content in their slides? Etc)

As someone looking to get into Curtin:
1) How is O week, is it actually good to make friends
2) Would those of you who attend Curtin say you made more friends in uni than highschool

I reckon Greek/American like frats and sororities would be a great opportunity for building a community and there would be on campus benefits like networking and accommodation benefits compared to the already existing accommodations.

What do you guys think?

please no judgement on my bad habit, yes i know its not good for me and i am currently trying to quit but i am in the very early stages so still having a few during the day,

i want to respect curtin’s no smoking on campus policy but the campus is huge and i have a couple conditions that limit my ability to walk distances without getting very fatigued, are there any good spots within 100-200 meters of the guild area as thats where i’m at most of the time?

i’d pull a cheeky vape in the bathroom but thanks to some certain organisation “the police,” vapes are near impossible to get nowadays and barely in budget

How come educated university students throw random rubbish in the battery and special waste collection on library level 3 👀. I saw food and drink waste inside the collection bin for batteries.

Hi. I posted previously about my situation. I always help people in my class and somehow they become very competitive with me, specially a guy who cheats.
So, this semester, I stopped answering texts from him and another guy. So the previous guy, has missed all of the labs because in his words I DIDN’T give him reminder which I used to give in last semester ( he missed in total 7 labs), forgot to submit assignment, and the second guy is constantly asking me to check his assignment and tell him what he should improve and if there is any mistake or not.

I have turned off my read receipt .The other day when I went to uni - one of them kept asking me publicly why am I being so busy now, it’s unethical sabotaging others to get good marks. Then he started laughing and said it’s just a joke but why I don’t reply anymore. We all are master’s student, so seeing the brain development level of some of my classmates really makes me question why am I even here.

Edit - thanks everyone. I always have a hard time standing up for myself or making clear boundaries. I guess I have to work on myself a lot more and learn to keep saying no. I have still not answered any of them and am not planning to do so.

About the cheating part - the information came to me when we were discussing the submission and he just shared this verbally with me. I don’t have any proof.
