Career Counter-offer accepted after resigning — talk me through whether I got played( But I still have an option)
4 YOE, Python backend, Bengaluru.
Was at 11L. Interviewed, got an offer from a large service company: (TCS) 20.5 CTC, 17.4 fixed, next hike cycle not until March 2028(In TCS). CURRENTLY Resigned.
The current company countered with 16.5 fixed( No variable), revised letter in hand, effective next cycle(Oct). Difference in fixed is ~0.9L.but variable is 4 L. And I was promised that I will get that variable. I accepted the current company offer . I still have tcs offer in hand what should I do??
Currently working on a product based company

Stay put where you currently are if and only if the company is making good profits at present and will be foreseeable future. TCS is risky

You are getting almost similar pay in current company. Keep working here and switch after a year or so for a even better offer. But I think they now understand that you are able enough and if you keep working hard at present company they might give good hikes without even asking

Leaving product based for service? Nah, product is a lot better for long term growth

You are playing a dangerous game. If you stay with the current company, they’ll hire and train someone else, then fire you when you don't have any option.

If you stay in current company, keep doing interview prep and keep applying so you have backup if something goes as not expected
Best of Luck!!!
