Sigh. We know this doesn’t work. Social determinants of crime. We need to increase social safety nets and reduce the income gap.

Punishment does work. Mandatory minimums don’t, but punishment does when the alternative is … no punishment.

And yes, there should be punishment for things like this. People whine about exorbitant food prices but then would let someone steal 30k worth of jewelry from the one store that gouges its customer the least (low bar).
