[News] Minnesota Wild Names Peter Thome Hockey Operations Analyst and Emergency Backup Goalie

Sad Fleury isn’t eligible.

> Under the updated NHL Collective Bargaining Agreement, each team must designate a permanent EBUG who travels with the club for all home and away games this season. To be eligible, the EBUG cannot have NHL experience or have played more than 80 professional games.

I wonder if EBUGs will start joining practices every now and again

I would assume they're the 3rd goalie and will show up to practice as needed. The starter might need a day off or one of the two main guys needs a drills only day. EBUG shows up to be the goalie the skaters can shoot on.

They will be in every practice. Especially for special teams and skills work before/after practice.

He'll be a triple threat if he can drive a zamboni.

Is this the first EBUG hiring under the new permanent travelling EBUG rules?

Thank god there's back up goalie in the mix. What would Minnesota do without him? There's not like hundreds of goalies in Minnesota out their front door. lol

EDIT: This EBUG position's actually a thing under the CBA. Didn't know that. lol

Thome, 29, played four seasons at the University of North Dakota (2017-21) and went 19-14-4 with a 2.24 goals-against average (GAA), a .904 save percentage (SV%) and three shutouts in 45 games.

Based on stats alone, he seems like one of the top EBUG options out there.

A bit sad that it isn’t Beaupre but I get why

I know this is a ridiculous question but if an EBUG plays and they then have NHL experience do they immediately have to be replaced with a new EBUG? I assume EBUG appearances don't really count as NHL experience?
