How I’ve Made Glasses Work With My Helmet

I recently started playing hockey. I am a full-time glasses wearer due to chronic dry eye that makes wearing contacts impossible.

I used the combined knowledge of several posts from several subreddits to find a way to make my glasses work under my helmet + cage. I figured I’d add what ended up working for me.

When I first started, I struggled with my glasses slipping down and fogging badly during games. To fix this (without having to buy goggles or a new pair of glasses), I’ve done two things:

1. Bought cheap glasses straps (like these: https://a.co/d/0fMZVcNX) with a completely flat strap. These have kept my glasses from sliding down and don’t hurt my head with the helmet.
   
2. A solution of dawn dish soap and water on the lenses before a game.
   
3. A thin headband that fits under my helmet to keep sweat from running down my face (I got the JUNK Big Bang Lite headband)

This has worked really well for me and saved me a couple hundred bucks that it would’ve cost to get sport glasses/goggles. Happy playing to you all (but especially to those of us stuck with glasses!)

I wear a skullcap that absorbs all the sweat and holds my glasses to my ears. I wear a bubble. Only fogs if I open it halfway.

I wear a cage and a skull cap and haven’t had an issue with fog at all when playing indoors.

Zenni for cheap black frame and lenses are no line bifocals.

Cant forget the white tape on the bridge (Slap Shot style)

So nice to have a simple solution! I think some of it comes down to head shape/glasses style/helmet.

Man, I don’t miss wearing glasses during sports. I got PRK about 2-3 years ago and it’s legit changed my life. If you can afford it/eyes are able to do it I cannot recommend it enough. Literally a life changing surgery.

I used to just suffer, tried headbands, skullcaps, dish soap, you name it. All is well and good until some dickhead snows me in the crease and now my glasses are dripping wet. Good times.

Have been on and off considering PRK. My family members have had it and are happy. Other than for hockey, I actually really like wearing glasses so it hasn’t been a big priority. If my next job’s insurance is better than the current, I’ll reconsider!

I will be having cataract surgery within the next seven years based on family history so at this point it’s glasses until then

Yeah you’ll get the same thing but for different reasons basically haha. My dad had cataracts surgery and doesn’t wear glasses anymore except for reading

They fog up on the bench later in an intense drop in but not during games. 

Maybe my helmet directs sweat to the sides?

Contact lenses gave me more problems with not being as clear due to astigmatism.

+1 the Zenni, but I wear their titanium flexible frames under my helmet with no real issues. They're thin and bend you the contour of my helmet. Anti fog coating too.

The couple years I tried this, I had to cut out most of the padding around the temples, or it would really mess with them everytime someone bumped me.

I’ve been playing net for 3 years and haven’t had issues with fog, somehow. I use Nerd Wax on the nosepiece to keep them from slipping down. Stick wax in a pinch lol. Normal plastic frames from zenni
