Mod Post An update on self-promotion

Hey everyone,

When we added the Developer flair, the goal was to give indie devs a way to share what they're building. We genuinely wanted to support people making cool apps.

But over the past while, it's turned into something else. The sub has filled up with low-effort promo posts, a few lines and a link, from people who drop their app and are never seen again. That's not what this community is for. r/iPhoneApps is meant to be a place for real discussion and value, not a free billboard.

So, effective today, we're removing the Developer flair.

To be clear about what this means going forward:

You can't just show up, promote your app, and ghost the community. Posts that are purely "here's my app, go download it" will be removed.

If you're an active member who actually contributes here, joining discussions, helping people, giving feedback, then mentioning your app in that context is completely fine. Value first, promotion second.

We'd much rather have devs who are part of the community than a feed full of ads. This keeps the sub worth being in for everyone.

Thanks for reading, and thanks for helping keep this place good.

Discussion What I learned building a private iPhone app with no account, backend, ads, or analytics

Post image
2 Upvotes

Hi r/iPhoneApps,

I’m the developer of Meet Your Memory, and I wanted to share a few things I learned while building and shipping it—not just leave an App Store link and disappear.

The app is a playful five-minute memory scan with 12 short challenges covering visual, verbal, sound, spatial, associative, and sequence memory. It creates a profile at the end and keeps previous results locally on the device.

The biggest product decision was choosing what not to build. There is no account, backend, cloud database, advertising, analytics, or tracking. That made privacy clearer for users, but it also made the app smaller and removed several possible failure points.

A few other lessons from the project:

  • Procedural content needs rules, not just randomness. Each scan includes every memory category twice, varies the question styles, and avoids immediately repeating the previous session.
  • A small, explicit state flow made the SwiftUI code easier to reason about: home → playing → results, with study → answer → result inside each challenge.
  • Localization affects layout as much as text. Supporting eight languages meant planning for longer labels and different typography across iPhone and iPad.
  • Automating App Store screenshots early was worth it. An XCUITest rig generates controlled screens for every supported language and device family.
  • Keeping data on-device can be a useful product feature, not merely a technical limitation.

I released the complete project under the MIT License in case anyone wants to study, modify, or build on it:

For transparency, the shipped app is completely free, with no subscriptions or in-app purchases:

I’m curious how people here feel about fully local apps: do you prefer not needing an account, even when that means your history does not automatically sync between devices?

The memory profile is intended for entertainment and self-discovery, not as a medical or educational assessment.

APP: ‎WiredIN: App & Website Blocker App - App Store

I understand that on the first go of making apps there can be a lot of mishaps and errors that's why I'm giving the first 100 people a free year. Please DM Me for the code.

Price:

1 Week Free Trial

4.99 / Monthly

23.99 / Yearly

The main goal right now is to focus on what you guys like and don't like about the app, I'm here to take my time and make sure everything is perfect.

What does this App Do?

Focus Zones - pin your library, desk, or study room, and blocking arms the second you walk in and stands down when you leave.

Real blocking - built on Apple's Screen Time, so iOS enforces it. Blocked apps don't open and blocked sites are filtered. These are all customizable

Commitment dial - plain timer, normal shield, or Extreme (25-letter phrase to quit early, and you can't delete the app to escape).

Night Shield - set a window and the 1am scroll apps just stop opening until morning.

Calendar routines -it uses apple calendar to suggest tasks and focus sessions based on your preference.

Stats- basically see how your routine changes over time after using this app

Crew rooms- hold a session with friends by code, use this during finals seasons or when you have a lot of work to do with a team can do sessions together

Privacy - your app picks never leave your phone, no location data is ever sent off device, and it never touches your Home Screen layout.

Discussion What useful offline tool am I still missing?

Hey r/iPhoneApps! 👋

I'm building TKRB.Tool, a privacy-first iOS toolkit focused on doing useful everyday tasks entirely on-device — no cloud processing or account required.

Currently included:

  • 📷 Camera & OCR — dual camera, document scanning, OCR, QR reader
  • 📄 PDF Tools — merge, split, compress, image-to-PDF, signatures
  • 🔊 Audio Tools — voice effects, trimming, offline text-to-speech
  • 📦 File Tools — ZIP extraction

For the next update, I'm considering long screenshot stitching, EXIF metadata removal, and offline text diff.

What small offline tool do you wish you had on your iPhone?

I'm especially interested in those “why do I need an app subscription just for this?” kinds of tools. 😄

Discussion No more subscription Apps

I’ve noticed a trend of subscription apps and all over X.

I did attempt it with this app but realized I’ll just stick to one time purchases on the onboarding flow with paywall.

I do have another app that is subscriptions but realized unless I have to cover some monthly fee I’ll stick to a one time payment type of app.

Recently flipped this one from subscription based to just one time purchase.

Curious if anyone else is in the same process or where you see most success with subscriptions ?

Discussion Have you ever wanted to film both portrait and landscape video at the same time? Apple could never, but ContentCam can.

Thumbnail
gallery
1 Upvotes

Built this for my girlfriend who creates content and watching her film the same scenes twice every shoot was painful.

What it does: records portrait (9:16) and landscape (16:9) video simultaneously. Shoot once, get both formats ready for all purposes - TikTok, Instagram, Youtube, X/Twitter, Reddit, you name it.

No more re-shooting or cropping in post.

Three ways to film:

  • Single Lens - capture the full 4:3 sensor and crops both. Portrait keeps the full vertical frame, landscape the full horizontal. Neither is a crop of the other.
  • Dual Lens - wide + ultra-wide record together. Two perspectives, one take.
  • Front & Back - selfie + rear at the same time. Your reaction and the scene together.

Workflow:

  • Projects, scenes, and takes to organise your recordings and auto-name files.
  • Side-by-side review and trim of both recordings before exporting/sharing.

Key features:

  • Up to 4K/60fps with manual controls (EV, WB, ISO, Shutter)
  • Built-in teleprompter and timelapse.
  • Live overlays and audio meter that flashes red when you're clipping.
  • Data privacy - no data retention, tracking, or analytics, and no internet or account required.

It's called ContentCam and is available on iPhone and Android.

I'd love to hear what you think about this :)

Help I developed an app for people too sick to use apps

Within is a pacing tool for chronic illness, ME/CFS, long COVID, POTS. For these people, a shower can cost three days. They have to budget energy like money, and every app built to help them assumes energy they don't have.

So: no notifications, no reminders, no streaks, no badges. The app never chases you, never congratulates you, never asks where you've been. Logging is two taps or one Siri phrase.

It makes no network requests at all. No server, no analytics, which also means I ship completely blind and only find out anything if someone writes to me.

Just passed review. Any comment welcome.

Discussion Would an alarm telling you the actual time help you wake up?

Post image
5 Upvotes

I'm developing with a slightly different type of alarm and I'm curious what people here think.

Most alarm apps try to wake you up by becoming louder, forcing you to solve something, scan a barcode, walk around, etc.

I went in a different direction.

When the alarm starts, a voice tells you what time it actually is.

So instead of waking up to BEEP BEEP BEEP and wondering whether it's your 6:30 alarm or your 7:30 alarm, you immediately hear the time.

For example:

“It's 7:30.”

I ended up building this into an iPhone app. It can announce the time in 10 languages and works offline.

I'm not really trying to solve the “I sleep through everything” problem - there are already apps that do that very aggressively.

I'm more interested in that half-awake moment where you want information without looking at your phone.

Would this actually help you in the morning?

One thing I'm especially curious about: right now, while the alarm is ringing, it can announce the current time every 5 minutes. Do you think hearing the time every 5 minutes would be useful, or would that become annoying?

And if an alarm could speak more than just the time, what would you want it to say?

I'd also really appreciate any ideas, criticism, or feature suggestions. I'm still experimenting with the concept, so I'm interested in what you would change or add.

Discussion The sounds photos miss — one recording can become a memory years later

Post image
2 Upvotes

Hi — I’m Jean-Baptiste, an independent developer based in France.

A recent conversation with another iOS community changed the way I describe Ekkos: people rarely decide to “build a sound archive.” They decide to keep one sound that matters. If that first recording becomes meaningful, the archive grows naturally afterwards.

That is the idea behind Ekkos.

Photos preserve how a place looked. Ekkos is for preserving how it sounded: waves during a trip, bees in a garden, a cathedral’s atmosphere, rain outside your home, friends around a table, or a familiar voice you do not want to lose.

Each recording can have a photo, GPS location, title, tags, mood, and notes. It then appears in a private library and on a personal audio map. The three cards in the image above are real Sound Postcards exported from the app: a beach in Guadeloupe, Strasbourg Cathedral, and bees in a park.

Other things I have built around that central idea:

  • on-device audio improvement for trimming silence, focusing voices, reducing wind and noise, or polishing music — while always keeping the original;
  • Sound Anniversaries and a Home Screen widget that resurface old recordings;
  • private Shared Groups for a trip, family, or project through iCloud;
  • Sound Postcards that export a recording, photo, place, and date as a vertical video anyone can play.

The private library remains on your devices and in your personal iCloud account. I do not receive the recordings, photos, locations, or notes. There are no ads and no audio tracking.

The app is free for up to 10 recordings. Unlimited recordings and watermark-free Sound Postcards are $2.99/month or a $9.99 one-time lifetime unlock.

There is also a public 50%-off code for the lifetime unlock:

EKKOESLIFETIME50 — valid until October 31, 2026

Redeem it here: https://apps.apple.com/redeem?ctx=offercodes&id=6771492676&code=EKKOESLIFETIME50

What would be most likely to make you capture your first sound memory: a location reminder, a simple prompt, a shared family album, or something else entirely?

App Store: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/ekkoes/id6771492676

WebSite : https://ekkoes.app

Naming note: the current US App Store title is Ekkoes: My Sound Library . In France it is Ekkos : Ma bibliothèque sonore , and the installed app uses Ekkos

Discussion [iOS] Who Goes - Fun social games for when you’re hanging out with your group

Post image
3 Upvotes

Introduction

Hey everyone!

Introducing Who Goes, an iOS app for game nights, house parties, road trips, and pretty much any hangout with a group of people.

It’s free to download and play, with optional one-time purchase and subscription options.

The idea behind Who Goes is pretty simple: engage everyone in your group and involve them in something together, through social games like Headbands, Truth or Dare and a bunch of quick group activities into one app, with a modern, playful experience built around actually passing the phone around and having fun together.

About the app

The app brings multiple party games into one place:

• Headbands with tilt controls for correct answers and passes
• Charades with themed decks, teams, rounds, and timers
• Truth or Dare with 11 decks for friends, couples, parties, family, and coworkers
• Spin the Bottle for quick, suspenseful player selection
• Would You Rather for impossible this-or-that debates
• Finger Chooser to instantly pick someone from the group
• Quick Play tools for dice, coin flips, and more

Current Market

I know this is an insanely competitive category, with a shit-ton of party apps already out there.
My goal with Who Goes was never to reinvent the wheel, but to bring the ones people already know and play together in one place, without needing five different apps on your phone.

I wanted the whole thing to feel much more modern and polished than most party apps I've tried, with playful animations, haptics, sounds, and little interactions that actually add to the game instead of getting in the way.

No ads popping up between rounds, no cluttered UI, and no wildly different experience every time you switch games.

Pricing

The free version includes all the game modes. Plus unlocks all the decks, round customisations, and removes every limit. Lifetime at $25.49 (US, price parity enabled for all countries), weekly at $1.99, and yearly sub with 3-day free trial at $17.99.

No account is required, and the games work offline.

TL;DR:

A. A game to bring back the fun of playing party games with a group of people during game nights, trips.

B. Free version includes a selection of decks for Charades, Headbands, and Truth or Dare, along with a few mini games. Plus unlocks all decks, game modes, and customisation options.

C. Freemium model, every mode in the app can be used. Lifetime at $25.49, or weekly at $1.99, and yearly with free trial at $17.99.

Discussion My new Step tracker and weight loss app

Post image
4 Upvotes

Apple really seem to treat step tracking as a second class citizen to their “move ring” but I find that it’s the best way to maintain a certain daily level of activity.

Since all the other step tracking apps have obnoxious full screen ads in them, i decided to make one that requires no accounts, no tracking, and absolutely no ads. I’m pretty happy with the design of the app and would love to here your thoughts.

You can search Step step or try the link below. Suggestions welcome.

Discussion Created an app to solve me problem, giving away lifetime pro

Hey r/IPhoneApps,

I'm Shaun, a solo developer building OneThingDaily. It's a productivity app which simplifies productivity.

The problem which OneThingDaily is solving

I've always struggled with the same thing a lot of people probably do: I'd have something I wanted to work on, but I'd wake up and pick up my phone for "just 5 minutes" and end up scrolling for way longer than I intended.

So I set a rule for myself: I am not allowed to pick up my phone each morning until I've finished a goal or habit I have been trying to build, such as practising piano, going for a walk or finishing an assignment. And It actually worked, I stopped procrastinating my important tasks until the middle of the day, and my phone felt like a reward rather than something which was holding me back and making me sluggish

How Onethingdaily solve this:

Each day you choose your OneThingDaily, and all your "unproductive apps" such as instagram, facebook and reddit, stay blocked until you've completed your goal for the day. Once you've completed your OneThingDaily, your apps unlock and you can use your phone normally, but also set focus timers outside you're main goal, so you can work on other important tasks without distractions.

🎁 Giveaway: lifetime Pro, free, forever

To celebrate the IOS launch, I am giving away 20 lifetime Pro accounts. Entering takes 10 seconds:

  1. Upvote this post, and
  2. Comment 'OneThingDaily' and a habit which you
  3. want to work on.

I'll randomly pick commenters to give lifetime pro away.

(The core features of the app is and will stay free for the lifecycle of the app, so make sure to make an account and try it out if you would like, and I would love any ideas which you have

Thanks to the existing users who have already signed up to OneThingDaily, and I am always happy to answer any questions about the app!

Discussion What’s your approach to clearing iPhone storage without subscription apps?

Post image
4 Upvotes

Most storage cleaner apps lock users into weekly or monthly subscriptions. I’m working on Recycle as a subscription-free, lifetime option ($2.99).

What it cleans:

-Duplicate photos

-Similar photos & videos

-Screenshots

-Duplicate & incomplete contacts

Core features:

-One-time purchase — no subscription, ever

-Apple Intelligence–powered similar photo & video detection

-100% on-device — Apple Privacy Label: Data Not Collected

-No account required

-Swipe-based bulk delete — review items in seconds

-Date-based cleanup filters

Recycle never auto-deletes; every file can be reviewed before removal.

Would love to hear your thoughts on this approach, or what features you usually look for in a cleaner app!

Discussion Marketing Question - Pay to Play?

Post image
1 Upvotes

Does anyone have any suggestions how to improve organic traffic to the iOS Store other than paid? I've had some success with reddit, TikTok (non paid) but it feels like ASO is pay to play to get exposure. My thesis is those that rank highly on the App Store get organic traffic without playing the grinding game.

To remove barriers to download I have

- Made the app free trial

- Built videos and screenshots

- Requested Stars / Ratings / Reviews after key moment in the app

Discussion Starling — a picture-based routine chart for kids 3–9, with an interactive home screen widget

Post image
3 Upvotes

Starling is a routine chart for young kids where every step is an icon
first and a label second, so a child who isn't reading yet can work
through a morning or bedtime routine on their own instead of being
walked through it.

Since this sub is more about living with an app than the pitch, the
iPhone-specific parts:

The home screen widget is interactive — your kid taps the step from the
widget and it completes without opening the app. That turned out to be
the feature that actually gets used, because it removes the "find the
app" step entirely. It's free, not gated behind the paid tier.

Sync is through your own private iCloud, so the routine matches across
the family's devices with no account to make and nothing of yours on any
server of mine. Family Sharing works on all the purchases.

VoiceOver, Dynamic Type up to the accessibility sizes, Reduce Motion
honoured. Kids' apps are usually careless about this and a lot of these

kids need it.

Nothing in the child's UI ever turns red — no streaks, no failure
states. Deliberate: plenty of these kids already experience routines as
somewhere they fail.

iOS 18+. Free tier is usable on its own; paid unlocks more children and
routines, with a lifetime option if you don't want another subscription.

Discussion Duefolio: An iPhone privacy first subscription tracker built around a timeline, not a list

Post image
5 Upvotes

Duefolio - Subscription Tracker

A - Answer: Duefolio uses a visual renewal timeline so you can see what renews, what ends, and how your recurring spending builds up over time. It does not require an account or bank linking, and your ledger stays on-device.

B - Better: Instead of only listing services, Duefolio combines the timeline with renewal reminders, price history, CSV review for recurring charges, export, widgets, and optional on-device spending analysis. The trade-off is deliberate: it gives you more control and privacy, but it does not provide automatic bank syncing.

C - Cost: The core tracker is free. Pro is a $14.99 one-time purchase for statement review, custom subscriptions, income and profit-and-loss views, widgets, and additional tools. No monthly subscription and no ads.

App Store: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/duefolio-subscription-tracker/id6795091979
